December has arrived and that means that 2012 will soon be over. Adam has been “trespassing” all around the world lately and currently finds himself in China and will wrap up his 2012 with a New Years Eve concert in Bali. But before the year ends with a bang there is plenty to do on his home turf. He heads to NY for “Cyndi Lauper and Friends” and a TV appearance, then hops across country for a radio event and a little “Diva” hosting thang.
A lot of holiday cheer to look forward to!

Choosing a photo for the monthly threads is never easy. However, it’s his most recent look that is getting attention. Since it may not last long, I thought that most of you would enjoy the look from the Mnet Awards – fierce, defiant, always unpredictable Adam.

Enjoy the chat! Happy Holidays!

CWM That’s it Clap ……….Thank you Thank you. I want to put it on my desk top also.

firstimerob, that is the exact picture (big image) that I had on my desktop until the pics with the hair down and the facial hair came out. I love them both, but the one I have now has to be in my Top 2.

  2. HK fan says:

wow, I’d forgotten how good the Leno vocals were.

Off shopping now. the washing machine has packed up…not good in a family that does 3 loads a day. Need to go and work out if its worth getting repaired $1200 upwards, or just easier to order a new one.

  3. Ceddies says:

AL, thank you so much for coming to my rescue with an enlarged pic that I could use and not have to have six small ones on my desktop. And, on the pics you sent me, I can have a large pic without the top of Adam’s head being cut off. You are always so thoughtful and helpful.

  4. Ron says:

Was it only 2 or 3 months ago that I was so looking forward to this night? I couldn’t wait. And I couldn’t wait because the Grammy nomination show was going to confirm what I thought I knew. For.Sure.Knew. Not just 1 nomination but hopefully 2 or 3. But, definitely 1!

Now that the big night is here, I’m not even going to watch. “American Horror Story” is on at the same time and I never miss it.

Instead, I’ll check here. I think someone might post something if there’s anything worth posting. Wink

I’ve been thinking back to when I met Adam last May and suggested he and Sauli bring a little red wagon with them to the Grammy’s because they’re going to need it to take home all the awards.

In the video I made, I imitated how he reared his head back when I said that, brought it forward, looked at me smiling and said, “Thanks, man”.

I’m still not clear, I still don’t know how to read that head movement but I think he may have felt one of two things:

“I wish you hadn’t said that. You’re going to jinx me”.

    Or,

    “Never going to happen, man”.

I’ll check back later hoping for a pleasant surprise. Fingers Crossed

  5. milwlovesadam says:

Ron, here’s to happy surprises Drink Cheers, clinks your glass.

I’m taping both shows. Love American Horror Story. This season is so over the top it’s like a farce. It’s like tidbits of every horror movie all tied up in one story plus WW11 Nazi atrocities for good measure. Where else can this story possibly go? I say to visit Satan in his home.

  6. milwlovesadam says:

A joke courtesy of my brother living and working in China to relieve tonight’s tension:

A beautiful princess comes upon a frog in a meadow near her castle.

The frog hops into the princess’ lap and says, “My lady, one kiss from you, and I will turn back into the dapper, young prince that I once was, and then, my sweet, we can marry and set-up housekeeping in yon castle with my mother, where you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children and forever be happy doing so.”

That night, as the princess dines on lightly sauteed frog legs, she chuckles to herself, “I don’t f**kin’ think so.”

  7. firstimerob says:

Adam looks so pretty on my desk top. I put purple on each side for filler, looks great.

  8. nkd says:

We are so conditioned to disappointment from the music industry regarding Adam, but I’m still very nervous.
I’ve accepted that it probably won’t happen, but there’s still a little hope. Fingers Crossed Waiting Suspense Tremble Pray

  12. Oksana2000 says:

I didn’t expected Adam to nominated, therefore no Pain

However Pink got nom, cuz she is Pink. Nothing great about her album.

  13. eywflyer says:

So no nomination. As expected unfortunately. The last chance for Trespassing to be regarded as anything but a commercial disappointment in the US gone.

I think the process of the US losing Adam as he becomes a primarily internationally focused artist is well underway Frown

  14. Oksana2000 says:

Nomination for Swifty’s “Never,Ever” adds an insult to the injury.

  15. Oksana2000 says:

Eywflyer, did you really expected Adam to be nominated?
I didn’t. I’m happy that he is getting recognition worldwide and he is able to fill up these 10,000+ venues.
Te world does not begin and end with USA.

  16. Kradamour says:

Apparently no one in the US business “gets” the disconnect between the huge venues that Adam fills abroad vs. the “intimate” concerts here…bah.
    G’nite, peeps.

  17. eywflyer says:

Didn’t really expect it no but still disappointing that quality is not rewarded.

Adam is having success in other countries, but I fear that won’t save him from either getting dropped or at the least facing a serious budget cut from RCA when it comes time to produce and especially market/promote the next album.

I’ll shut up now – you guys already know my opinions on the Trespassing era without me rehashing them tonight.

eywflyer, does RCA gets cut from his overseas concerts? If yes, they will not drop him. Money is money. And we don’t really know how many albums he sold abroad.

He certainly does much better than many of his fellow Idols.
    I shouldn’t say that,tho.
He is out of Idol bubble.

  26. Ceddies says:

Has anyone seen the entire list of nominations? Just before the end of the show, didn’t Taylor Swift say something about there being a total of 81 categories? I checked cbs.com and grammy.com, etc., as she said; but I didn’t find anywhere near 81 categories. Or, do we just already know by the categories already revealed that Adam is out of the running?

At any rate, I’m just sick about this. Like everyone else, I really didn’t think Adam would get this, but I was hoping.

    Going to bed now. G’nite.

  27. Kradamour says:

I’m back just long enough to say that WWFM was nominated and it is (IMHO) a piece of crap compared to anything on Trespassing.
And this year? Call Me Maybe? Really? As opposed to, say, any single f*cking track on Trespassing???

I hope we can turn the page soon, because this page starts to look really unpleasant with all the poop emoticons.
Now the Biebs and Adam have something in common. Jokes aside, I could name a pretty good list of people that should have been nominated. And some of the ones that were nominated are really artistic lightweights to say the least. I need to let it go. Whatever. Neutral

  33. milwlovesadam says:

Well now it’s time for Adam to top the “Most Snubbed” lists.

I’m still pissed off. Can’t help it. Trespassing is the best album, most cohesive piece of work I’ve heard in many many years.

I said it a couple of years ago, and I’ve said it since. We will lose him to the world.

And, I’ve made this point before too. I think it was after the Idol finale when somebody performed twice. But, who paid it off, slept with who, for Adam Levine to perform twice? Weren’t there hundreds of performers who would have given their eye teeth to perform on the Grammy Nom. show on live TV?

  34. ultimathule says:

Have ratings for the Grammys held up?

Did Levine perform on the Grammys? Didn’t watch it – can’t stand these award shows.

If the Grammys continue in this course of nominating those who do not really deserve it and snubbing those who do, can’t see how it will not continue to lose credibility and become disposable.

What age group watches this thing?

  37. aely says:

Count me in on the just plain angry side. I have been having a yucky feeling that if he didn’t get a nom he might be dropped so I started researching record deals. If he has a 360 deal he is fine. They take a cut on just about everything. I don’t think he started with this because I found an old contract from idol and it was basically standard and just USA. Sony is the parent company internationally and they do support tours and can negotiate cuts of concerts to cover advances given to Adam for the album. The old CEO Tommy (something)said as he was leaving in 2006 they were looking into moving in this direction as cd sales keep falling and only 1 in 20 albums sell gold.
They consider a mid level artist to sell 200,000 CDs. So, I think this is the push to tour overseas, they don’t make much if anything on mid level artists but if they can bring media buzz and pack in the crowds then then they take that into account. What I can’t seem to find anything on is if they can terminate his US contract and just have an international deal. Regardless, countless articles said if an artist can draw a crowd all he really needs is management (PR) and a good lawyer. krad? Ha. All the money is in touring and merchandise anyway. Bottom line is he will be fine. Hey, he sold more records than Christina A.

ahh, good news !just checked our official weibo ,the concert client told me many brands want to sponsored adam’s concert. one will chat 2m

  44. aely says:

From what I have read label want/need sponsors or promoters to help with the costs of concerts. They tend to be more interested in acts that can draw bigs crowds and big media which is what glam in China has been working so hard for adam to get. More people more ads more money. He just proved he could pull in thousands and promoters see $ and want to book. Adam works his yeah off so his label and the promoter make money. Adam makes a few bucks as well Smile I read that this is sometimes how they “break an artist” but rarely because so few can draw the numbers he has been able to do. Robbie Williams has a deal on this premise. He can draw 100,000 overseas but doesn’t sell well. It is all very interesting. Radio too, labels pay to have their artists played but it is never spoken about or admitted. Sell more get more play because the label can afford it.

  45. cwm says:

Well crap. I don’t know what to say except that I’m disappointed and pissed off. I knew that Adam was up against stiff competition and I had my expectations in check, but it still sucks. Some of those nominations just make me shake my head.

    nkd:
We are so conditioned to disappointment from the music industry regarding Adam…

Yes we are, but I’m tired of being conditioned to disappointment, dang it!

I wonder how Adam is feeling tonight. I’m guessing he was keeping his expectations low, but I bet he was hoping deep down that maybe just maybe… Sigh.

Thanks Brian. Your perspective, experience, and wisdom help take the sting out of it a bit.

I love Brian. He’s keeping us all grounded in what’s really important here. Making great music. Which Adam has done and continues to do. Trespassing is a kick-ass album and always will be.

    eywflyer:
The last chance for Trespassing to be regarded as anything but a commercial disappointment in the US gone.

I understand and appreciate where you’re coming from, eywflyer, but when I see references to Trespassing in the media, I don’t see it characterized as a “commercial failure.” I see it characterized as an album that debuted at #1 and that is critically acclaimed. It’s true that its “mid-level” sales are not as much as was probably hoped for/expected, but that #1 debut and critical acclaim will always be associated with it.

I don’t think he will be dropped, but I do share some concern about what budget he will be given for the next album, so I appreciate the research that you did on contracts, sales, touring, etc., aely. That’s really helpful to hear about. I’ve always wondered how contracts were typically structured.

  46. ultimathule says:

Thanks again, aely – so that’s why Adam is working his tushy off – that’s where the money is. And he is just a consummate entertainer – can understand why he could get sponsors. Go, baby.

  47. cwm says:

    alidol ‏@glam_alidol
ahh, good news !just checked our official weibo ,the concert client told me many brands want to sponsored adam’s concert. one will chat 2m

ultimathuleaely already answered your question, but I’ll add a bit. From what I understand, this means that there are a number of companies in China who are interested in sponsoring Adam’s concerts there. Which is a very good thing, because sponsors bring money to the table, in exchange for good publicity, which makes promoters and labels happy because that money underwrites some of the costs of putting on the shows. Which then means higher profits for the promoter, label, and artist.

  48. ultimathule says:

Thanks, cwm – so outside of the big players like squintyeyes, Bieber, Rihanna, and a few others, the money is going to come from concerts, merchandise, and product promotion.

  49. cwm says:

Yep, that’s right ultimathule. The money is now in concerts, merchandise, and product promotion. Because a very small percentage of artists sell a lot of recordings anymore.

ETA: Haha does “squintyeyes” = Swifty?
