December has arrived and that means that 2012 will soon be over. Adam has been “trespassing” all around the world lately and currently finds himself in China and will wrap up his 2012 with a New Years Eve concert in Bali. But before the year ends with a bang there is plenty to do on his home turf. He heads to NY for “Cyndi Lauper and Friends” and a TV appearance, then hops across country for a radio event and a little “Diva” hosting thang.
A lot of holiday cheer to look forward to!

I dunno, I’m now pretty sure that that is NOT Adam in the Singing Waiters video. The Singing Waiters website did post a picture of Adam so we can clearly see what he looked like when he was working for them (SO CUTE!) and the guy in the video does not look like the cutie in this pic.

Also, the guy singing has a strong tenor voice, but it doesn’t really sound like Adam’s voice to me either. So I’m thinking they haven’t yet put up any video with Adam in it.

If Adam gets a Grammy nomination, I will be ecstatic. If he doesn’t, though, I’ll just have to take a deep breath and move on. It’s a very crowded category, and Adam is up against strong competition. But the fact remains that Trespassing is a fantastic album, whether it gets a Grammy nom or not. I just want it to get the recognition it deserves!
Well, I don’t know, people, that’s all I got. Went through the video several times, and that was the only even remotely possible one, because of the voice mostly. Whatever, maybe they will post something more recognizable later.
Re Grammy noms, I saw the HDD predictions too, and it just seemed like they lean towards sales as a predictor. But, supposedly, sales isn’t supposed to be, so who the hell knows. Or, as in the case of Chris Brown, maybe it all boils down to your management having an in with someone high up in the Grammy org, and money. Nothing surprises me any more – just look at the People’s Choice clusterf*ck – specifically, the list of fan groups. Glamberts are the ULTIMATE fan group, yet not even included? WTF?
So, I’ll cross everything too, but not expecting anything.

I just read a post from Q3 at Adamtopia where she said that it would be highly unusual for an album that sold less than 500,000 units in the US to be nominated for a Grammy for best pop album. Not impossible, but definitely unusual. So I’m going to keep hoping like hell, but I’m going to stay realistic about Adam’s chances.

By the way, that same thread at Adamtopia (same link, just keep reading from that page forward) has a very animated, very honest, sometimes heated, sometimes difficult discussion about people’s differing reactions to the more effeminate nature of Johnny’s dancing and the overtly gay choreography in Fever at Hennessy. Very interesting to see all of the different reactions and how different people are in different places in their journey toward acceptance of the wide diversity of “how to be gay.”
I know we have had some discussion here about Johnny’s dance style.
My opinion is that Adam knows exactly who Johnny is and how he dances and comes across, and Adam has very intentionally put Johnny on that stage with him as part of the artistic expression he wishes to make. I love the diversity of personality, looks, and types in Adam’s band, back-up singers, and dancers. I wouldn’t necessarily trade out any of them. (Although if I’m being honest, I would love to have Isaac back cuz I loved him and miss him. And I would tighten up the synchronicity between Johnny and Terrance.) But I think Johnny’s expressiveness and femininity are fine. It’s camp and it’s exaggerated for an artistic purpose. I’m pretty sure that Johnny is taking directions and cues from Adam here. IMO, he doesn’t negatively detract or distract from Adam; rather, he provides an expressive, amusing, OTT personality for Adam to interact with onstage, and I think that prompts Adam feel more freely expressive and sassy, too.
Someone said that Johnny is the yin to Terrance’s yang. I thought that was an interesting way to put it.
I respect Q3 very much but occasionally she is wrong. I’m thinking of when she was pretty much positive Adam would get the Idol judging gig. I felt really bad for her when he didn’t.
But her Grammy post makes a lot of sense and I think she is correct. We’ll see what happens tomorrow night. And if he gets nothing I will move on. Disappointed but happy with the success he’s having right now.
Thanks for your thoughts cwm. I agree that Adam knows exactly what kind of a dancer Johnny is and what impression he makes. To think otherwise would be just ridiculous. This is exactly the show that Adam has chosen to put on. FYE was in a way a continuation of Idol. Instead of doing covers, he took the best of the mix of what was given to him by great songwriters and producers (with a little of his own work thrown in for good measure) in order to keep showing off his vocal chops. But it wasn’t a reflection of him. Remember the criticism that the songs were too much in the style of the each writer so there was no cohesion to the album? GNT was the fulfillment of a long held dream of going all out and doing a full glam show. On Trespassing Adam came back to himself and found what he loved and made the album that is personal and reflects the music that he loves and that best reflects where he is at this moment in time. I think that he is doing the same in the stage show, saying “this is me, this is my world. It is fun, diverse, all kinds and all colors, sometimes a bit outrageous, sometimes deep and serious, full of love and acceptance, and nothing to hide or be ashamed of. Come on and join the party!”

ETA Sometimes when I am watching these shows I get the feeling that Johnny and Terrance are the equivalent of having a male and a female dancer. Other times, when he needs them, Adam has two male dancers, so it’s two for the price of one! lol

lol…and I miss Isaac too but I have to say I love this drummer’s smile. Especially when Adam does something silly or funny on stage you can tell the drummer (for the life of me I can’t think of his name) really lights up. And he has toned down his pounding I think

CWM, I guess I have some road to cover on my journey. I just think Johnny is less of a dancer.
Terrance is polished, tight, and much more professional and seasoned. He’s a dancer.
Johnny is more loosey-goosey and less experienced and certainly less professional looking in his dance moves. He is more gay nightclub cutesy-ootsy ( finger to mouth and pout. Really?) Bend over and stick out your tush and wiggle. Really? He’s a prancer.
My impression is that Adam is a control freak about certain things. Not everything. I think he’s hands-off about the choreo, except for the moves that involve him. He was certainly hands off about the girls outfits up until recently. He obviously likes or tolerates Brian’s mugging like a DJ and making sounds and comments.
I also think that he’s been exposed to certain types of choreo, and may not see it the same way some of us do. He’s more used to it. Drag shows, etc.
The general public just won’t warm up to it. IMHO.
But, then again, the general public isn’t Adam’s fans.
Most of the complaints are coming from American fans-right?
Maybe he’ll get away with more camp in Europe and Asia than he will when the shows are finally here.
All I know for sure is that I just think Johnny doesn’t fit.

hahaha mils…now your post is making me take a third look at Johnny. All of you have made points that I agree with. Guess I’m in the middle. I tend to lean towards the dancing rather than the person. I LOVE Terrance and wish Johnny was tighter and had more finesse. Not sure about bringing back the girls (or one girl dancer) yet it does give Adam a little something different to play off of.

I’m such a major post ho, but, I did email the newspaper music writer who mentioned Adam with Queen. We have had several exchanges, and he is a big fan of Adam’s and hopes for a Grammy nom, and wants to see him live again. He called him and his show ( GN at the Riverside ) one of the best shows he’s seen, and certainly one of the best male vocalists he’s ever seen. He’s a fan of Queen and is “really, really hoping for the show to come to the states.” He really appreciated my compliment about doing his research and that his mention of Adam in print in America may be an exception to his being so snubbed.
What does Idols being in Hollywood Week mean???? You are all so right about the programs on VH1—what a “mess” but Adam is a “ray” of beauty and perfection—love to open up this page every day and see that face looking at me

Josephine, the Hollywood Rounds are when they go from hundreds of candidates to around the Top 36. It’s very competitive, they have to do groups, sometimes have choreo, form allegiances, get advice from voice coaches etc.

So I went away for a few days and it’s a new thread and new issues plus the continuing angst for a grammy.
Re Johnny…ITA with all of the above: yin/yang, feminine/androgynous element, unpolished, OTT, not the dancer that Terrence is. Came from the gay clubs, has that aura…and yes, I think that all of this makes him perfect for Adam’s shows. Adam is controlling, but it seems to me that for the dancers/band/backup singers, the control took the form of choosing them. Once chosen, he doesn’t second-guess too much, or so it seems to me. Adam knew exactly who/what Johnny would bring to the performances, no surprises there. So I assume that is what he was going for.
Now I’ll duck the veggies being thrown: I never really liked Taylor and don’t miss him. Frankly, I think that Johnny is a better foil for Terrance (and vice versa) than Terrance and Taylor. And with the two guys and two vajayjays, no more dancers are needed on the stage; it is balanced. I think that Brooke and their semi-sexual interactions were perhaps a necessary part of GN to make it more palatable to the less-than-accepting, but now Adam is making it pretty clear that he is absolutely going to put his gay on when he is on stage, whenever he feels like it.
Gonna weigh in on the facial hair. The sooner it goes, the better. IMHO.

Josephine, Idol has to up the changes in the show to stay up in the ratings with all the talent show competition now. Hollywood Week may be when the changes start. There is a lot of speculation and hinting going on about it.
Maybe, just maybe, they will bring in mentors at the Hollywood Week level. So, maybe Idol invited him back. To me, it’s a good move. Adam will be around to film, it’ll be shown here on TV when he’s in Asia. So for once, he would be news here while abroad. Win/win.

Yes Adam likes to push button and stretch boundaries but sometimes it come back to bite him. Most of his fans backed his AMA performance but not all and not the majority of the general public. I heard remarks like, I respect his openness and I respect his rights, but I don’t like his lifestyle shoved in my face.
I feel Johnny is just a little to OTT and will allienate some people again. I’m not saying any of this is right but I am realistic and I want badly for Adam to obtain the success he deserves. I want an American tour where he plays bigger venues, not small ones with just diehard Adam fans. I think right now he needs to concentrate on being a great singer, not being an openly gay singer. That version of Fever would not do well in the states and I wonder about the Asia. Maybe he was just testing the reactions. I need to shut up now and duck as I hear tomatoes heading my way.

I’ve been reading about Hallelujah that was posted upthread and having a concert for myself. I ended up with this. We saw him live a couple of years ago at Summerfest in a solo show. Breathtaking to say the least. Stick with it till the end. You will not be disappointed.
