Exciting times are upon us as July begins! Adam has just completed an outstanding first full length concert with Queen at a charity event in Kiev, Ukraine (as captured in the photo above). Five more Queen + Adam Lambert concerts are lined up for Moscow, Wroclaw (Poland) and London during the next couple of weeks. Adam will then return to the United States to play a series of solo concerts during the second half of the month, including gigs in Costa Mesa, Sacramento, Des Moines, Thackerville (Oklahoma), and a much anticipated return to the site of one of his first and most memorable concerts at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. All told, Adam will perform in 10 live concerts this month, which will make this his busiest month for live performances since November 2010 when he was in the European portion of the Glam Nation Tour. Well the AI rumor was fun while it lasted. Nigel pretty much shot it down I’d say. Adam comes off looking desperate and AI gets a day of free PR. Typical Idol BS.
Some of y’all are probably going to be unhappy with me for saying this, but other than the Queen gigs (which are awesome), the Trespassing era has been pretty much disastrous for Adam thus far. Lead single did not do well, second single did much worse, album sales are lagging well behind FYE pace (looks like TSP will probably drop out of the BB 200 in another week or two), single track download numbers are downright bad, and even concert ticket sales which are supposed to be Adams bread & butter are lagging significantly.
I’m pinning remaining hopes on additional Queen gigs and further collaboration, if that doesn’t happen it’s difficult to see a viable path forward for Adam right now. Hard to imagine that RCA would support a third single, or further promo, or a tour for that matter, given the results to date from Trespassing.
I don’t like saying any of this, especially here, but this has been weighing on me for a while now. I hope this post doesn’t upset you guys too much.
Hi eywflyer…am awake early myself. You must be on your night shift. What is it about Trespassing that you think is not “clicking” with the public? The songs?just Adam himself? I almost feel the way you do about a tour. I’m looking at it that these little one hour gigs ARE the tour and you should really try to catch one of them. The thing that makes me sad is that if there is no real tour, we will never hear Underneath or Nirvana or Running or any of our favorites live.
Are you still feeling 100% that Queen will come to America? I almost think if they do more gigs it will be more of Europe, maybe South Africa, Japan…places that appreciate them. Anywhere but here. Hope I’m wrong.
When do you think we’ll hear about the UK sales? In an interview yesterday Adam as usual was asked about a tour and his answer was like he’s said before “buy some cd’s then we’ll see about a tour” or something like that. I don’t like to be a Debbie Downer but just stating what I feel at this early hour. That may change in minutes!!!

And, to answer eywflyer’s question, um, yes, your post is upsetting and I feel premature. There are lots more variables in play than just the US of A and many things we don’t know. Adam’s been out of the US almost a month but has a lot of gigs lined up and will surely do some promo to and from Japan. We didn’t know about the Shanghai gig until a few days before, and I think that got him a pretty penny. Fat lady hasn’t sung yet, but I expect to hear some Fat-bottomed Girl tomorrow.

Good morning, everyone! First I want to give Ron a big cyber hug – I’m sorry that you got your feelings hurt over “there”. Same thing happened to me not too long ago and I sent her an email telling her exactly how I felt (it was after her infamous twitter fiasco involving someone very special at this site), then signed off and haven’t posted since. For the most part, I really enjoy reading the comments there, but occasionally someone seems to get away with murder on their post and the ones who respond get reprimanded. It was all very upsetting and immature, so I decided I wouldn’t participate in the game anymore. Hope you feel better today, Ron.
Regarding the Trespassing era and it being deemed disastrous – I have to agree with riskylady. Sure, based on actual sales, it’s been disappointing. But I still feel like Adam is building his career from the bottom up – no, he’s probably not ever going to be the pop star whose every single flies up the chart and gets radio play whether it deserves it or not (like some we all know). However, I just can’t help but believe that the tremendous amount of respect he’s garnered in his short career will always ensure some sort of healthy career in the entertainment world. Niles, Sam Sparrow, Katy Perry, Pharrell, and most importantly Brian and Roger – these are huge endorsements. Like I’ve said before, Adam’s career may not be pointed in the direction we all envisioned, but I still believe his overall career trajectory is moving in a positive direction – all in all, I’m a very happy fan!

Neil has gone to London as well. He tweeted “journey to London begins now with a train ride to San Diego”. And later: “Buttressed by 3 screaming babies. Wanting to channel full-throated Daniel Plainview right now”. Not sure who that is, but it sounded like he wasn’t having the best flight.
I’m so glad his family get to see him in actin with Queen. What an historic event for them.

I feel MUCH better today because, when I walked into the kitchen this morning bleary-eyed, there was a HUGE bouquet of flowers and a card for me. Happy 35th! There will be no singing “Together” or singing anything tonight. We’re just going to go to our favorite restaurant and have a nice, quiet celebration.
You’ve expressed how I feel perfectly! I couldn’t be more surprised and disappointed that “Trespassing” didn’t go through the roof. I truly believed it would once and for all put Adam on the map. It’s an excellent CD that deserves to be a best-seller. I think that, in time, it could still become just that. I was encouraged when I recently read that it took 22 weeks for one of Lady GaGa’s songs to finally reach the top of the charts. Steady as she goes, slowly but surely, it’s very possible the same thing could happen with “Trespassing”. Yesterday Rolling Stone endorsed it among their choices for Album of The Year. I didn’t tell Adam to bring a little red wagon to the Grammy’s for no reason. I think the nominations are announced in November so we have to wait a bit … but we’ve learned how to be very good at that! Grammy recognition would put this CD front and center again. It’s possible and I’m holding onto that.
While I’m disappointed, I remain very optimistic. There WILL be a break-through. I don’t know what it will be or when it will happen but … it’s going to happen … and we’ll all be here to celebrate!
Until then, there’s opening night in London tomorrow!! I couldn’t be more excited for Adam and for everyone we know who will be there! I hope the audience will be filled with celebrities! Elton John, Paul McCartney, George Michael, well … the list goes on. Those British critics can be brutal but I’m looking forward to glowing reviews!

IMO, if you set aside the gay (because that can’t be changed) it’s the single selection. Everyone I know, especially the younger set, want the more upbeat/dancey songs. My daughter (she’s 19) and her friends (17-24) prefer Trespassing, Cuckoo, Shady, Kickin In, Pop That Lock and Runnin. They like the other songs but these are the songs that get them moving and make them want to come back for more. I think the powers that be should release Trespassing. Personally, I feel that should have been the second single, especially since it’s the name of the album. I realize they wanted to try to capitalize on Bruno’s popularity but the only way that would have happened is if it were an actual duet/singing colab…not a writing colab.
As I stated before, I think Adam is a little ahead of his time. Right now it’s a simplistic, dumbed down sound in pop music. It will turn around…eventually. I think people like Adele are helping with that. If you think about it, Adele didn’t make it big with her first album and I consider Trespassing Adam’s (true) first album so….give him time. The talent he has can’t be denied forever. It will happen…just not in the time/way we all had hoped.

I agree totally with you on this. And if I remember there was an interview with Adam where you could tell he was hesitant or resigned in talking about that single. Many of us agreed that with all the work he did, his own song should have been released. And Trespassing would have been perfect, I think. Maybe it will still happen.
What a lot of people may not know is that Bruno himself didn’t become a pop star right away. He was first and foremost a songwriter. Then he started colabbing with other artist…ie. BOB featuring Bruno Mars and a few others. Then, and only then, did he start releasing his own tunes. Bruno is talented but even he needed a jumping off point and it was from the Rap genre. That being said, I wouldn’t be opposed to Adam doing a colab with someone popular…Katy, Pink, GaGa, Bruno, Pharell…anyone that can get our boy noticed outside the Glambert circle. If some of the guys would work with him, not in a production way but in a “featuring” way, that could be the catalyst he needs. Could help remove the stigma attached to Adam (gay and idol).
Oh and I’m totally on the Trespassing single train. That song is a fun one!!

I agree with you 100%! Of all the songs to choose from for the first single, how, why, and what was the reasoning behind releasing “Better Than I Know Myself”?!?? It is arguably the weakest song on the CD!
Coming from musical theater, you have to grab the audience by the throat from the very beginning. You don’t go to a Broadway musical and have the curtain open to find someone sitting on a park bench talking to a tree. The curtain opens to an eye-popping, dazzling opening number that hooks the audience and makes them want to stay for the rest of the show. Go at it full throttle and get everyone’s attention right away!
That’s why I never understood, and still don’t, the term “soft sell”. Or that “BTIKM” was a “nice bridge” from “WWFM” to ease Adam back into the public conscience. No. Come out swinging from the get go!
I personally think the song “Trespassing” should have been the first single and will never understand why it wasn’t. That’s an attention getter if I ever heard one that draws you in and makes you want to hear more. Isn’t that what a single is supposed to do?
I’m sure I’m in the minority here but I didn’t care for the videos. I don’t think either video represented the overall theme of the CD and did nothing to further it and promote sales.

eywflyer Well, I guess I’m kinda sad after reading your assessment, but even so I don’t think it means ‘the end’ for Adam. It may be that he doesn’t ever reach the stratosphere of stardom, but he’s got such a huge international fan base I can’t see him sinking back to smoky bars any time soon. I suspect he could flourish internationally.
I don’t think he came across as desperate in his response to the judging rumours. Think back to any question he’s ever been asked about different collaborations or career directions – he’s always been forthcoming, positive and enthusiastic. I think his style is prompted by a philosophy of leaving every door open.
Ron I don’t understand the music biz or the listening audiences very well, being 29 and all, but I’m kinda with you…tho I’d vote for “Shady”. I have given TSP to friends who all LOVE the dance-y songs!

Hi everyone – just arrived in London today from Paris. It’s been a fantastic trip through Italy and France with my family. And now, Queen + Adam to cap it off! Many of us ALL-ers here are meeting up for dinner in about an hour. Really looking forward to to meeting people! And I’m VERY excited about the upcoming shows! Can’t believe that they are so soon now!

In response to Eywflyer, You might be right about his Tresspassing era for America, however, there is still The UK and Europe & the rest. From what I see from Lady North’s comment, the cd’s are doing well in the Uk! It’s a shame that American radio will not play his music, but they will play all the auto-tuned non singers music! If people can’t hear it on the radio, they will not know to buy it, the fact that it debuted at #1 is nothing short of a miracle with virtually no radio play! I read somewhere & I don’t remember where that Lady GaGa made it overseas first before becoming a hit here. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so. As far as being an American Idol judge, I think he would be wonderfull and even if it was for just 1 season, it might FINALLY get him radio play. I still do not think that RCA is giving him the amount of promotion that he needs. They don’t seem to have a problem getting Kelly Clarkson the promotion that she needs. She is everywhere. Adam needs his face out there more. Well, I’m done!

Quick story: My friend took her copy of Trespassing with her on a dinner/dance cruise. She took it to the D.J. and ask him to play the song “Trespassing”. He did and after a very few minute the dance floor was going crazy. Everyone was up and dancing and clapping when appropriate to the music. And it was requested and played many times thru the evening.
And eywflyer, your musings are well thought out, IMHO. But, I’m not ready to be a Debbie Downer yet. Especially given that he’s all over TV yet again. I do wish that they would plug the CD when touting him as a judge candidate.
Just yesterday RS had the CD as a best of 2012. He keeps winning polls. And, let’s not forget that London is about to happen. It may be epic. It may be the best publicity ever. There could be celebs there, international press coverage, etc.

He has been all over a lot of places but…I was listening to a radio program on my way into work (Mark and Brian) and they were talking about Idol looking for a new judge. They listed a bunch of people (including Miley) but there was no mention of Adam. Whoever pulled that bit of news decided to leave out the part about Adam being asked. I found that quite interesting. I also found it interesting that the only things we were seeing was about Adam, Adam, Adam. Then all of a sudden there was a new article saying that Adam wasn’t the only one. They threw out Miley and a bunch of other names. Very curious. I’m not sure what to think anymore. All I know is that I want them to release Trespassing. I sure miss the days of radio when you could call in and request ANY song off an album and they would play it. Boooooo to modern day radio

I remember thinking of this way back when Adam was on Idol. I felt even at that time that he would be a natural for the big screen. I would especially love to see him in a musical of some sort. I also feel that this is something for which Adam is striving.
As seen with his ‘judging Idol’ comments, Adam seems to be very open to pursuing career opportunities beyond Trespassing.

After a very trying day went to a small Mexican restaurant. I had on a tee shirt that had “Adam Lambert” on the front. I had made this a couple of years ago. Walking in to pick up my food a guy waiting said “you like Adam Lambert? I heard he was touring with Queen”. We got talking… he’s a Freddie purist…asked him to give Adam a chance and youtube Kiev. He was aware of the Kiev concert because he said “wasn’t that an aids benefit with Elton John?” He hadn’t seen any part of it.
What was interesting he said he saw Queen with Paul Rogers several years ago in Buffalo, NY and the stadium was only 1/3 full. I told him Queen is re-energized now with Adam and we are all hoping they will come to America. He will be very surprised.

Well if this cenario doesn´t play out, besides winning the Grammys for best male vocal, there will be a new song recorded with Queen for some motion picture that he´ll be peforming at the Oscars.

OMG Cher. Okay, it was the Spaghetti House. My hubby and I went to every Italian restaurant that we could find in the Westfield mall and asked for a restaurant with Spaghetti in the name. No one could help us. This was at about 9:30 to 10:00. I should have googled it first…duh, but thought it would be no prob!!
So sorry I missed everyone. What a great group you had there. I was at the ATOP dinner first and ended up going back there. It was fun and really noisy. It would have been perfect to be able to do both.

Going to bed now but wanted to say to ewflyer – I don’t think Adam sounded needy at all. His first public comment was polite and respectful to AI, which he has always been, and the second was obviously calculated to draw out the story as long as possible, which is simply a smart thing to do.
RE: UK sales – two weeks ago Justin Bieber debuted at #1 in the UK with 27,000 unit sales; Carrie Underwood came in at #11 with 10,000 unit sales in the same week and her sales were described as a breakthough in the UK market.
I hear Adam’s mid-week sales are between 3-4,000 so he’s entering Carrie territory. Sales are pretty low all around in the UK.

Greetings All, I hope Cher and everyone else in London is having a blast! So jealous, but so happy for you all!! Mils, happy you have gotten some work and love your positive attitude! Ewflyer, you made me cry this morning when I read your post from last night. I know it is frustrating, but I truly think it is too early to throw in the towel. I remember Gaga talking in an interview once that it took a year for her first album to take off. We want him to be sooooo successful, but we need to come to grips with the fact that he is the one who will determine what defines successful for him, not us. We must be patient and stay the course!
Renatademelo, you made my sadness go away with just the right amount of reality (that all is possible when you are talented and beautiful (inside and out)), hopefulness, and pure faith that all that is good will come his way, because he is deserving.
I truly think the world is his oyster right now and he is in the process of brewing up the perfect storm. It will take timing, skill, and balls of steel on top of all his other attributes, but that is no problem for Adam. I am here for the ride, and having the time of my life in the process!!!
So happy to have all of you in this place to share our love for that man! It dawned on me some time ago, that AFL has changed my life for the better. It is amazing to even think of it, but it is so true. Because of the person he is, he makes me want to be a better person. How awesome is that? Then to top that off, he is just so talented and gorgeous, and hot, and cute all at the same time. I have had so much fun and total enjoyment being a fan of his and would not trade a minute of it! But I really don’t spend much time worrying about his future. He is always going to be fine, one way or the other. Aside from the obvious talent, he is loved by many in the industry. He will be fine, and will be entertaining us for many years to come! Okay, I am getting down off my soapbox now!

Dear Peeps, love your positive thoughts. I have only been worried about Adam twice over the past few years. Immediately after the AMAs and when I saw the headline that he was in jail in Finland. He survived both of these incidences and came out a stronger person for it. I’m NOT worried about him now. His path is HIS path and it will probably take many twists and turns. For purely selfish reasons I love that we will have a bit more time to have him on a human scale. I will miss seeing him shopping at Whole Foods and moving his luggage through the terminals.
Eywflyer, I know you are disheartened about the response Adam has gotten in the US but it is far from over IMHO. Take heart knowing that Adam has received critical acclaim for Trespassing and it seems to be doing well outside of the US.
