December has arrived and that means that 2012 will soon be over. Adam has been “trespassing” all around the world lately and currently finds himself in China and will wrap up his 2012 with a New Years Eve concert in Bali. But before the year ends with a bang there is plenty to do on his home turf. He heads to NY for “Cyndi Lauper and Friends” and a TV appearance, then hops across country for a radio event and a little “Diva” hosting thang.
A lot of holiday cheer to look forward to!

Choosing a photo for the monthly threads is never easy. However, it’s his most recent look that is getting attention. Since it may not last long, I thought that most of you would enjoy the look from the Mnet Awards – fierce, defiant, always unpredictable Adam.

Enjoy the chat! Happy Holidays!

OMG, I love the lyrics to “The Rose” !! Now that I have listened to Bette sing it again, I want to hear how it would sound with Adam’s voice…

  2. Soccermom says:

Why have we never heard anyone sing “The Rose” on a singing competition?

  3. nkd says:

I believe Lil sang “The Rose” on season 8 of AI. Songs of the cinema maybe.

nkd, you rock with your memory. Good job.

And again, Adam would slay this song. But, Bette is amazing.

  7. milwlovesadam says:

I’ve never re-watched anyone but our guy.

I’m getting really sick of singing shows. I’ve skimmed through this year’s crop so quickly, they were so predictable and boring and low quality. The ones I do like never win. Ever.

Recently, Haley, Casey and Nicholas were vocally and stylistically interesting and talented. Casey is doing pretty well and playing a lot of gigs. He just jammed with Jack Black in LA. I saw some video of it, they were scatting like crazy and having a ball on stage. Casey was just here in my city and played with Naima, who was also interesting and different.

But, I’ll probably fall into the Idol vortex again. Unless the Minaj crap-fest gets to be too much. She could tank the whole thing. But, I’m also hoping that Adam shows up as a mentor. You know, when he’s not non-touring in Asia.

Approx. 35,000 albums are released each year. Not to bad!

Old article but I am sure it still holds about sales.

Billboard 200 AlbumsYear-End top-selling albums across all genres, ranked by sales data as compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.

  11. milwlovesadam says:

aely, that article was from 2009. It can only mean much lower numbers by now. Some artists had number one debuts with less than 40,000 sold. I’ve seen it said that Adam’s debut at number one with 75,000 was actually fairly high. Not looking at Biebs, Swift or a couple of others. Most artists sold less than 50-60,000 in the first weeks of top 10 sales.

  12. aely says:

Yes, that is why I said it was an old article but I just thought this was the interesting part and puts sales in perspective:

….115,000 albums were released, but only 110 sold more than 250,000 copies, a mere 1,500 topped 10,000 sales, and fewer than 6,000 cracked the 1,000 barrier

  13. ultimathule says:

    Thanks, aely.

  14. milwlovesadam says:

Yes, thanks aely, I was just repeating I guess. It is interesting to see that put in numbers. I wonder if anyone is analyzing radio numerically. Like, how many singles and artists had a chance of getting played, by which media corporations.

  15. aely says:

    mils

This is interesting also. I wonder if they are going to go the singles route and try and promote for TV/movies etc.. The new approach.

Adam and Queen top the Gigwise poll for best live performance….another obvious writing error though in that they said they did 2 shows in London.

  21. mmm222 says:

dcglam– That cat and Adam video was funny and really hit home. It looks like the cat wanted to catch Tommy and gobble him up at the end. My cat, Hector, who sits on my lap each night enjoying Adam is also an orange tabby. My husband refers to him as the altar boy who helps me worship at the Adam Lambert shrine, aka, the computer. Hector does like to watch Adam when there’s a lot of action on the screen. So do I for that matter!

  22. LadyNorth says:

While watching that Recap of Adam 2012 I was so grateful to find him on time to see all those goodies… Well through vids (except Queenbert live), but anyway I recognized all of them, remembered oh yes I saw this, this is from Japan, this was the “crazy bitch” concert outfit Smile I have a glambert history!! Big Smile

Aely thanks for the interesting (though complicated) article about music business – wonder where things will go… Because I buy physical CDs, song by song release doesn’t sound very comfortable. But I think new approach might mean no radio promos – they don’t seem to lead anywhere Frown TV would be better?

    kiitos paljon
    namia

Mils you’re welcome! I’m glad you got it before Christmas, now you have your own Holiday collection. Enjoy your nami Smile!

  23. milwlovesadam says:

aely, just read that interesting article you posted. It is food for thought. Thanks for finding it and posting it.

Gaga and Katy Perry both use the “release a new song every couple of weeks” strategy before the album comes out. They did very very well with it. Bruno put out his whole CD, but, he released his video at the same time. No delays. And went on virtually every single show including late night, and hosted SNL, to sing it. He was on both XFactor and the Voice. He has ads on TV and in magazines.

    So. Again. Wrong single choices.
    Out of country when released.
    Minimal TV exposure.
No ads, on TV or in print media.
Video and single release poorly coordinated.
Conservative owned radio conglomerates refuse to play him.
Utter and complete lack of press( print media ) here about things like hosting on Fuse. Queen. TV gigs with Heidi Klum, MAMA, Hennessey, Napa, PLL, etc. Even lack of PR for Divas off VH1 itself.

He made more “news” for showing up at Fashion Week than he did for his music. He made more news for LGBT advocacy than for his music. This isn’t bad. But does it sell records? Does it get him on the radio? The jury is out on this.

But. He had all of these opportunities. He did a shit-ton of PR with his radio gigs and promos. He worked his butt off and traveled the world. He did countless fashion magazine photo-shoots ( yay, not complaining here. No way.)

Rolling Stone was very decent to him. He had a glowing 4 star review, and a couple of nice feature pieces, with Lee Cherry pics. The recent online poll douchery excluded.

But, of all print media, Rolling Stone should be shamed for not covering Queenbert at all.

Adam’s star is rising. His fan-base is growing around the world. Everything he does puts his name out there to a select audience. I just don’t think his PR/Marketing team is doing it right. IMHO

  24. Ceddies says:

dcglam and mmm222, my cat (Ceddie) is also an orange tabby. She loves Adam and was actually mournful when I first played “Underneath” on the computer. She sits on my dropdown of my computer desk just between me and my laptop. She likes to watch Adam videos too. Thanks for posting that video. I have video of Ceddie trying to “get at” something on our tv a couple of years ago–it wasn’t Adam, though.

  25. milwlovesadam says:

    Nami, nami, namia…

Just tried the stuffed one. One bite. Need to stay on plan. I’m going to share your gift, Ladynorth. My dad loves strong black licorice too. He’ll get a taste of Finland later today.

    This fandom is so sweet.

  26. milwlovesadam says:

nkd, thanks for the recap video. It’s um, “corner” worthy.

Think I’ll watch it on endless repeat , again.

  27. dcglam says:

Ah, Ceddies… I should have remembered that you were another cat lover. You once mentioned that your user name is your cat’s name — love it!! I’m glad that both you and mmm222 were able to relate to that video.
Ha, I knew you guys would…. Wink

It does seem like our guy has spent his whole life playing dress up for one thing or another.

LOL. Toga party? The guy on the bottom left is a friend we’ve seen before. But have no clue who he is.

  32. cwm says:

Aww someone turned the afterparty red carpet pics into a kissing gif. So sweet!

I love that Adam felt free enough at that after party to be openly affectionate with Sauli in public. I think that it had a lot to do with the fact that he felt validated and embraced for being himself in all his fabulousness on Divas. He could be “gay” on that show and it was totally ok – in fact it was more than “ok”, it was a perfect fit. I suspect that his success on Divas gave him a big boost of confidence and sense of place in the music industry. And it’s lovely that he felt free to be openly affectionate with Sauli in celebration. I love how VH1 was so supportive of him and so wholeheartedly embraced him in the process of putting on that show. In Love

I think this Keek video was posted a few days ago but I didn’t pay attention…someone (maybe the choreographer) saying “Johnny…do the choreography”. Guess Johnny likes to do his own thing as we noted in some of the past shows.

  34. TLKC says:

My favourite Tevye is Brant Carver who (perhaps?) has the distinction of being the only gay man to play that role. Ron would know if that is a good guess or not.

Brent is very Anglo, very fair and waifish. His Tevye was particularly affecting because, unlike the robust Mostel, he literally and figuratively embodied the vulnerability of Tevye’s position as a Jew in Russia during the pogroms.

Carver was nominated for a Tony for his performance as Leo Frank in the Broadway production of Parade (which was based on a true story about a Jewish man who was found guilty of, imprisoned and ultimately lynched for a rape and murder that he did not commit.) I never did see the play but my NYC friend wept through most of the performance.

Carver finally won a Tony for his leading role performance in Ebb and Kander’s Kiss of the Spider Woman musical on Broadway in 1993.
This is a role I would love to see Adam perform. He would kill in that role.

FYI, my Brent Carver fanning started in the early 80’s when I saw him sing a cabaret song. He was about Adam’s age then and brought forward the same feelings of love and protectiveness that Adam has awakened in all of us. He was excellent preparation for Glambert-dom.

  35. TLKC says:

    Loving the gifs!

  36. luval says:

    hmmmmm look who’s touring…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31M3xnsX4qE

  37. milwlovesadam says:

luval, I don’t think that’s Brian and Roger. I think it’s that tribute band.

That being said, I wonder if that would cut into ticket sales in those areas IF/WHEN Queenbert ever came to be again?

  38. luval says:

mils…yes, it is the Queen Extravaganza. I went to the website and they are doing 20 nights almost in a row in Quebec City in January and many dates in Montreal, St John NB, Moncton, NB, halifax NS…and several dates in Pennsylvania. They’ll even be in the Casino 30 minutes from my house where I wanted Adam to play. Here’s the website. Click on the “40 dates”.

    http://www.queenextravaganza.com/

Can’t believe they could fill the theatre for 20 nights in January. But Marc Martel is from Canada so maybe.

  39. milwlovesadam says:

Everybody vote, you can only vote once.

    http://adamlamberttv.blogspot.com/2012/12/ryan-seacrest-poll-who-had-best-album.html

The infant was on Ellen today. Poor baby was consoled by her about no Emmy noms.

Let’s all hold hands and cry. Cry

My new People magazine came today. Yay. That Top 10 album ranking was in print media, not just an online ranking. Yay.

Just interesting, on a side note. Many of you are probably aware that Newsweek is ceasing to print after the new year. Subscribers have the choice of continuing online or canceling and getting a refund. I have been getting Newsweek since, well, since before Adam was born and I was in college.

So, I called, and the guy said that 80-90% of readers are cancelling. I said, wow, that can’t be good for business. I asked if they had a breakdown by age, if “older” readers were canceling more than younger readers. They guy said he was 54. ( A little older than me, yay )and he said he had no breakdown, but, he canceled his own subscription. And he works there. LOL.

So, we chatted about using IPads, Kindles, etc to read your news, versus an actual magazine or newspaper. I like the real thing. So does he. I know I’ll never go online to their website to look up news. I just won’t. I cancelled.

This is such a sign of the times. IMHO. So, for Adam’s top 10 ranking to be in my hard-copy paper People magazine, I am thrilled.

  40. luval says:

Got my hard copy People too. Am gonna look!!

  41. Kradamour says:

So here is my fantasy, been thinking obsessing about it all day.
I don’t have any opinion about Adam doing a Christmas album, I don’t actually think it would be a good move for him until he is a lot more established than he is.
    BUT
I want very, very badly to hear and see (even if only a video) Adam sing “Santa Baby”.
It would be all kinds of wonderful.
    And groundbreaking.
    And so gay.
    And utterly delightful.
He could do it over the top, he could do it pseudo-seriously, he could do it any way he wanted.
    And I would die happy.
    Please please please…
    In Love

  42. milwlovesadam says:

    krads, you crack me up.

Speaking of OTT, super-gay, did anybody see Johnny Weir this morning on the Today Show. OMG. It was a bit much, even for me. I wonder what kind of feedback he got?

Go to about 30 seconds to see his costume better.

  43. luval says:

I love that Chuck Arnold from People. And they used the gorgeous walking on water photo too!

  44. milwlovesadam says:

Yup. Lee Cherry in People. Niiice.

  45. luval says:

I tried to find a contact for Chuck Arnold but couldn’t either on twitter or e-mail. Only the People Mag contact. Bet he has the vinyl disc copy of Trespassing.

  46. AL says:

My favourite Tevye is Brant Carver who (perhaps?) has the distinction of being the only gay man to play that role. Ron would know if that is a good guess or not.

tlkc, I believe Harvey Fierstein played Tevye and he is gay. I remember seeing Brent Carver in Bent in Toronto back in the early 80’s. Bent is a play about the presecution of gays in Nazi Germany.

  47. milwlovesadam says:

So, you know what’s funny? All this talk about Fiddler, and I go upstairs and find hubby sipping tea and watching… Fiddler!! No lie. He absolutely adores that movie. Actually “adores” isn’t a strong enough word. It’s like watching it gives him more air to breathe.

I’ve been home a lot these past couple of weeks recovering from my surgery. I have watched waaaaay too much TV whilst resting. However, there have been a lot of musicals playing. Aadm stuff on TV, and being a post ho here. However, today, I watched South Pacific on my DVR. I re-watched everything Adam from this past week. And, to top it off, Princess Bride was on this afternoon. Bliss.

And I found this gem today too.
    Unbelievable. Talk about bliss.
Ron and anyone who loves musicals:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQmxLr5IYLk&feature=player_detailpage

  48. riskylady says:

Mils, count me in as another fan of Fiddler. I don’t remember when I saw it, but it always stayed with me. Unforgettable!

LOL, in that video, even Roger Taylor has the fashionable facial hair (looks good, too). I don’t think Brian May is a fashionista at all, he seems to be very independent.

My only wish for Adam’s next album: THE VOICE. I can’t imagine what he meant by “new approach” – more pop? Less pop? More rock? I just want his voice to be the focus. Hearing Mad World again, the Queen music, I don’t know where the perfect formula lies, but I would like the voice to be the MAIN ingredient. Please, Universe??

  49. fwachdr says:

What’s on the cover of that People mag? I didn’t find it.
And a very Merry Christmas to all on ALL in case I don’t have a chance to post again till after company leaves. Love you all!

  50. TLKC says:

    Of course, forgot about Harvey.

I saw him in Torch Song Trilogy in a small theatre in downtown NYC in early 80’s (Fisher Stevens played the boy and Estelle Getty played the mother.)

I saw Brent Carver in Bent, too. I also saw Ian McKellan play Max in a National Theatre production in the late 80’s. I have the poster on my wall and am looking at it as I type this. (He also performed it in a Royal Court production at some point.) We waited at the stage door for nearly 2 hours after the performance ended and finally concluded that he had left by the front door at some point.

Another example of training for Glambert-dom.

P.S. I think I have seen Brent Carver in everything he has ever done in Toronto and Stratford Ontario over the last 25-30 years.
