Finally after filming earlier this year, “The Voice Australia” aired. Adam is perfect as a judge and mentor. In addition to that, Adam started rehearsing for “Cabaret” where he will be performing as The Emcee in his Broadway debut starting on the 16th.

I’m just going to say what everyone else is thinking but no one is saying. The elephant in the room so to speak. The biggest problem with Adam being a judge on the Voice is wishing we could hear him sing all these songs on the show that the contestants perform. lol

OMG the first performance in EP 13 is an absolutely angelic version of Hallelujah! The miner, Ruben, is so fantastic, Adam thinks he could win, and paired with the lovely classical singer from Ukraine.
ITA. The mixture of voices is so unique yet so powerful and beautiful. My favorite version of that song has always been from Idol when Jason Castro sang it. This version is right up there.

CABARET:
I think I’m in the tiny minority of ATCers who genuinely loved this production. I saw it in London last winter (with a tremendous cast of non-household name British actors) and fell for the whole thing hook-line-and-sinker. I did not have the opportunity (nor desire) to see Redmayne. I thought this new cast was excellent. Adam Lambert was absolutely superb. I vaguely knew he had a theatre background, but, perhaps unfairly, assumed that the lead singer of Queen, who is known for his incredible set of pipes, was going to be hired to over-sing and preen. So, I was pleasantly surprised at how committed his performance was. This is no pop singer masquerading as an actor, but, rather, a performer with genuine theatre chops returning to his roots. He was wonderfully slick and seductive and, at times, menacing. And, yes, he sang the hell out of his many numbers, but never over-sang – using his considerable vocal power judiciously. And, thankfully, none of that bizarre Redmayne’esque nature of the Emcee was evident – Lambert was allowed to make the Emcee his own.
Auli’i Cravalho seems to have Sally Bowles in her bones. She embodied the part just perfectly. Darkly funny and deeply moving. And, while, yes, there is SOME deliberate harshness in the vocals, thankfully, the director and team have allowed her to inject more musicality and genuine beauty into her vocal performances than we’ve perhaps seen in other Sallys in this production. She’s a young, but still world-weary Sally with just the right touch of blue sadness. Her Maybe This Time was gorgeous, her Mein Herr was delicious, her Cabaret was electrifying.
Calvin Leon Smith is a very fine Cliff. The Cliff I saw in London last winter was the ONE weak part of that cast. I think that may have been the feeling with Ato Blankson-Wood on Broadway, too? I know there’s been some discussion of the strangeness of casting a Black man as a character who a genuine Nazi tries to recruit. And while I understood that critique when I saw the production in London, it didn’t even enter my mind this time. I think that’s the difference between a stiff, characterless Cliff and a genuinely fine performance. Calvin Leon Smith never once felt ‘out of place’ or anachronistic. And, besides, I think the argument is probably that Ernst, like any human, can be full of contradictions – genuinely liking Cliff, this charming American, while simultaneously aligning himself with the Nazis and, later, exploiting the nature of Cliff’s fly-on-the-wall observer to benefit his smuggling operation.
I was less sold on Bebe. Partly because, despite being age appropriate on page, she still reads so vital and vibrant on stage – even in dowdy costumes and natural hair. Her voice is pretty shot now and I’m not sure that I ever bought her as this woman. But, eventually, I just put that all aside and enjoyed her performance for what it was – and it’s still a pleasure to watch such a pro in action. Steven Skybell was a splendid scene partner for Bebe.
The score sounded absolutely brilliant and the orchestra was even better than the one in London. There really is nothing like Kander & Ebb at the height of their powers.
FWIW, I was with an older friend who actually saw the original London production with Judi Dench and he absolutely loved this production.

I love when people’s preconceptions are disproved.
And, I have never heard Adam oversing a song – any song, any Queen song. The same amazing control he has over his voice is evident in his performances – Rocky Horror, Emperor Maximus, Ratatouille , Megamind, Fraggle Rock, that devil in a Tale Dark and Grimm, Glee, he seems to know just the right embodiment of each. The intelligence is so evident.
