After what has seemed like an eternally long wait since Adam’s Glam Nation/FYE era ended, we have finally arrived at May 2012 – the month that Adam’s new album “Trespassing” will be released! The album will drop in the U.S. & Canada on May 15th. Lucky fans in New Zealand & Japan will get the album a few days earlier on May 11th, Australia & Germany a few days later on May 18th, while some other European countries (U.K., Ireland, France) will have to wait until July. In addition to the album release, we can look forward to three concerts with Adam headlining this month, the KRZ Summer Bash in Wilkes-Barre PA on May 25th, at Six Flags New England on May 26th, and the Freshtival in National Harbor MD on May 27th. We will also see Adam perform on American Idol May 17th, will have the official push of “Never Close Our Eyes” to pop radio beginning on May 29, and may see the music video for NCOE later this month as well!

Our featured photo for this month’s chat comes from Adam’s mini-concert of April 26th on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

It’s going to be an exciting month as we begin the Trespassing era, enjoy the chat!

Trespassing #1 on the Billboard building album sales chart for Monday through Thursday!

    http://www.billboard.com/news/tenacious-d-glee-and-garbage-headed-for-1007103552.story#/news/tenacious-d-glee-and-garbage-headed-for-1007103552.story

Industry sources suggest that Lambert’s “Trespassing” could sell around 70,000 to 80,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, May 20. In a week without any other major new releases, and little competition, that may be enough to debut at No. 1 next week. Adele’s “21” will likely be the runner-up, with between 60,000 to 70,000.

The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan’s tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

The Building Chart report did NOT include today’s sales, when Adam certainly appeared to get a bump from Idol. Looking very promising for the first #1 album by an openly gay artist in the US!

I don’t think it’s success itself that I’m looking for, but the nice thing about success is that it opens up the door for further opportunities. When you have success you have more power, you have more budgets, you have more opportunities to perform on TV, you can get your music out to more people in a broader way. Success is a nice thing to have, but ultimately I’m more validated and rewarded by the fans than critical comments. I’ve worked so hard. I feel like if people love it, I’ve done something right.

  16. nkd says:

I love that quote too, rs.

I was looking for fingernail painting ideas, googled yellow/black fingernail designs or something and went to a youtube, and guess who appeared in an ad on the video and in the top corner, our own AFL! What a great place for him to be!
RCA is spending some money promoting this album and that makes me happy. Big Smile

  17. rs says:

Have you seen this article in the Gawker about Adam’s freedom to be gay in Trespassing? The vast majority of people who talk about him as the “gay singer” just mention it as something new and different. This article comes from a different perspective and talks about the gay aspects of the music.

There’s almost nothing here that a straight dude could get away with singing. On Tresspassing, Lambert is here, queer and it sure sounds like he’s used to it. It’s a boon to his art.

While I am very happy that Adam is being more embraced by the gay community, I am not sure how I feel about that “straight dude” comment, since he wants his message to be universal.

Hi, Back home and on my own computer! Don’t know where to start first! Driving up to LA for Idol(an hour drive), listened to Trespassing the whole way. Kept playing Cuckoo over and over. I decided that I was on the crazy train, about to lose my mind-I was so excited. Parked, walked a mile, and was let into CBS, and into the studio. Had a great seat, behind Steven and JL(who both looked great(Steven in a rocker way, and Jlow beautiful.) The Idol stage is huge, but small audience seating. Of course I expected everyone to be there for Adam(like me!), but only a few had Adam signs, and were wearing yellow and black. Recognized 3 women I see at everything Adam, 2 all glittery and with signs. When Adam’s turn came, He glowed, literally! They passed out neon disco balls and rings, and told the audience we should pretend we are in a disco club-everyone up when the band starts. I don’t know if everyone was yelling and dancing, because I certainly was. I was by myself, so I could sing, dance, and wave my arms like the wild mom that I am! Only after, did I hope that I was not on the camera! I get enough teasing about Adam as it is! When Adam finished, they cut to commercial, and then the judges came up on the stage, hugged Adam, and took pics with him, while they broke down the band and stage. He shook hands with the contestants, and then I guess they had to go to the airport to fly to Chicago. The cameras do not do justice to how great Adam looked and sang-I watched it at my parents when the show finished , and rewatched it 4 times. I”m not sure my 85 and 82 year old mother and father, understand what I see in Adam, but they were cool, and only commented on his earrings, and wondered how I knew all the words to NCOE’s!! My daddy(a real old world gentleman)had gone in to take a rest, and when he came out again, Adam was singing away, and he says”boy, he must be a very popular entertainer, isn’t that the Lambert fellow we were watching earlier!”The day was up there as a make a memory, and I did think of all of you when those lights came up and our boy was shining! About that smile during NCOE’s, I saw him do it at the Jimmy Kimmel concert too. Maybe he saw Sauli, or was thinking of him. Going to sleep now, need to recover from all the excitement. Nite, Nite, and I will Close My Eyes! In Love

cocoglam great recap, It’s nice to know the judges went right up to talk to him as it seems on TV that they don’t give him much respect, although they should have stood up for him. I also cracked up at the “hope I was not on camera” comment. Laugh

nkd I love the little girl pic too, but I do not know who that is in the other picture that you pointed out.

The Kearn’s was great but really, a three year old pic? Maybe he was trying to go with the American connection.

Love the Beatweek interview too. Thanks nkd.

  24. luval says:

Good morning! The Beatweek interview was really a great one. I don’t read every interview all the way through but I did on this one.

cocoglam: Wonderful re-cap! And you were so close! Good for you to go on your own. And like you glambotgram, the “hope I was not on camera” was a LOL moment!

The M & G pictures from last night were really wonderful. Adam look so happy. And as usual the huge variety of people. Men, women, young girls, pink blue & long haired guys. Love how he takes the pic with the pursed lips along with the fans. The hugs looked HUGE! Gabe Saporta is very tall. Adam fan! Cobra Starship really does have success with their singles but IMO Gabe looks invisible on stage.

The gal that nkd was talking about was in Ste. Agathe. Great fan with a sad-ish back story. But all is good now because of Adam!!.

And the pics where he is looking at his own poster are amazing. Wonder what goes through his head. And he is such a goof ball (the finger up the nose thing)!

One of the twitterers said Brian is very tiny…Adam’s whole band is teeny. Great things in small packages.

  25. glambotgram says:

Kradamour, when I read your description of listening to the album once and then having it in your head, it was like, Wow, she has the musical equivalent of a photographic memory! Not me. I have to listen again and again and again and again and again and again…..Not that I am complaining. I love every minute of my listening pleasure, and I do wake up with different songs playing in my head, but I don’t think that I could get through a whole song by myself.

  30. luval says:

    That pic is perfect glambotgram.

Am in a store looking at nail polishes. Lots of chartreuse which sometimes looks yellow…sometimes green like Adam’s shirt the other night. But I found true yellow only $1.99. The most “Trespassing” I’m probably gonna be able to handle is one yellow nail with black stripes. Lol

Eta. The name of the nail polish is “Sinful Colors” appropriate.

  31. eywflyer says:

Good morning. I updated the Fantabuloso thread with some pics (including the M&G set) and one video which covers Adam’s entire set (great video but distorted audio).

    Adam this morning:

    Adam Lambert‏@adamlambert
Keep Pushin Glamily!! Let’s get it back to #1 on iTunes! #Trespassing

Right now it’s still sitting at #2 behind the AI Top 3 compilation – grrrr.

Still, as per the Billboard article I posted last night upthread, it’s looking good for Adam to get the #1 album spot for the week.

It looks like there will be an actual stream of today’s concert in Boston:
    http://www.kiss108.com/pages/KC2012/

I’m not going to be able to do a separate thread for it though as we are having a cookout later today here at my parents and I just don’t have time Frown Very likely will be the same setlist as last night since this is another radio show where Adam has like a 25 minute set.

Please post any pix or vids from the Boston show here in the May thread. I’ll probably do a recap post for it later on.

  32. luval says:

Might as well get used to it. Adam will be doing the same songs at every one of these radio promos. Don’t mind. Maybe I’ll get used to Kickin’ In at some point!

Really really am looking forward to the tour which will be so much more. One of the tweeters last night said something to the effect that she didn’t like shows where half the people are there to see someone else and missed GN. (because of that).

  33. milwlovesadam says:

GN did not play Chicago. There were a lot of Chicago people at the Milw show, Rockford and Peoria.

I’m kicking myself silly for not going in last night to see him. What was going through my mind?? Gah!!! He looked and sounded fantastic.

  34. eywflyer says:

Luval, I think the shows where Adam is headlining will be a bit different too as he will have a longer set and more of the people will be there to see him instead of others. Wilkes-Barre, Six Flags, Freshtival, Costa Mesa.

  35. milwlovesadam says:

That Beatweek article was wonderful. It also mentions Runnin’. I do believe that song should be a single. It is being mentioned so often.

Also love the Nile Rogers updates.

Has anyone found any reviews in Chicago press/blogs yet?

  36. luval says:

Can anyone tell me the name of the company that will be handling Adam’s tour if & when it happens?

  37. Ron says:
  38. luval says:

    Hi Ron!

That interviewer was Didi Banimi (?) one of the kicked off idols from a couple of years ago. She is soooooo annoying. When she kept saying “why why why”….yikes. He had already answered the question. Gonna look for somewhere to write in about her less than stellar (way less) interviewing skills. Smile

eta…am experimenting with the yellow polish. Took 3 coats to get it right. Now for the black stripes. I know I’m gonna mess it up. Maybe I should use a magic marker or electrical tape instead of polish.

  39. JOJOSIE says:

Oh my God, Adam is coming to Iowa. Star 102.5 in Des Moines is having a summer concert July 28th and Adam is one of the performers. He’s listed second on the billing, right after Train. Neon Trees, Hanson, Matt Kearney and several others are also on the show. Not sure yet if I’ll go but it’s only a 2hr drive and they are selling seating, all tho it’s in a park. I wish it was only Adam. M&G are only available by winning them on the radio. He really having a busy summer. High Five!

  40. Ron says:

I missed out on all the fun last night. So glad those who participated had a good time!

cocoglam! So glad you had front row seats for Adam’s fantastic performance on Idol! It’s now become one of my favorites that he’s ever done and you were there! Good for you!

eywflyer, don’t worry about us today. Please enjoy the family barbeque! Any breaking news, I’ll send a message here that will go directly to your phone. You’re not going to miss out on anything! Smile

I think Adam saying in the Hollywood Report interview above that the numbers don’t matter as much as the fans and critics reactions to Trespassing is for public consumption. He’ll make history if the CD is #1 on Billboard. It has to mean a whole lot more than he wants to show. Putting the emphasis on the fans and critics most likely takes away some of the pressure and anxiety he must be feeling right now. It was another nice little interview by Adam but, (that was Didi, luval? I didn’t recognize her.) the interviewer left a lot to be desired.

I don’t know about that. I scrolled down to read “It’s another gem in this bulging treasure chest of sparkling, glamorous and sophisticated songs along with the painfully melodic Outlaws of Love which is a contender for ballad of the year.” and I’m seeing the bottom part of that picture just above that. Seemed appropriate to me. Smile

  44. eywflyer says:

Ron, yes please send me an email with any breaking news! The BBQ starts at 530p and I’ll be pretty much offline for several hours from then.

I’m curious, now that people have had a few days to digest the album, what do y’all think of it? It’s ok if you don’t love or even like every part, I just would find people’s honest opinions interesting.

For myself, it’s better than I ever could have imagined. I dearly loved dance/club music back in my club kid days (can you imagine lol?!?) in the early ’90s. This album definitely brings me back to that time in spirit, but with a thoroughly modern sound that I just can’t get enough of. Even the songs that I was meh about at first I now love in their place in the album as a whole. The first seven tracks are a nonstop dance party without a single weak track, BTIKM which I thought was not a particularly strong single (although it had a really cool music video) fits in perfectly here with its uneasy minor key sound as the bridge song of the album, and of course the ballads from Broken English onward are the perfect showcase for Adam’s voice that I felt was missing (other than Soaked) from FYE. Even the three bonus tracks are plenty strong to be on the standard album as well, although I can see why there were bonus tracks here since they would have disrupted the main album flow.

What do y’all think of it?

  46. luval says:

eywflyer. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the album. But as I mentioned several times the only song I can’t really enjoy is Kickin In. And it has nothing to do with Adam’s “song for the girls”. It doesn’t have a melody (IMO) and is too repetitive. But as time goes on it may grow on me. No Debbie Downer in me except the thought that it won’t be embraced by the public except for one week! Have gifted 3 cd’s already and one more to be done tomorrow to my friend that called me one second after he sang on Idol with the “where has he been”…I LOVE THIS SONG!!! after only this one listen.

I just finished e-mailing a local Casino near me with a request that they look into booking Adam here for his tour. I was too late last time. There’s another venue here (central New York) which would be perfect too.

I have the Kiss concert in the background. I think Adam is coming on 6p-7pm but not sure. It’s a pretty good stream and lots of people but I’m sure they come and go as to who they like to hear.

My nail polish situation seems to work best with black magic marker on top of the yellow…or black masking tape. Again it’s only one finger and it looks great! (to me LOL).

eywflyer…I think a lot of people are outside today. The weather is great pretty much everywhere. I went out for 5 minutes to do yard work but came right back in. The sun scares me.

  47. eywflyer says:

Luval, thanks for the thoughts. You are probably right about many folks being out and about today.

It’s funny – Kickin In is one of my favorite tracks personally. Both for the cowbell and the lyrics, as Adam IMO is describing pretty much one of the classic gay bar scenarios (believe me, there are many scenarios that play out in a gay bar on any given night!), which I find really funny/cool.

Now I don’t really see Kickin In ever being a single (Trespassing, Shady or Naked Love would be my guess for #3), but I do like the song.

  48. luval says:

eywflyer…Now I do remember you mentioning the cowbell once before. I will have to take a listen again! Yes, I recognize the lyrics too as I have been to many a gay bar back in the day with my theater and hairdresser friends (not stereotyping but that’s how it was!!). I’ll keep an open mind to the song but I want me some melody!!!

Adam supposed to be on around 550pm according to twitter. I’ll be watching the Preakness & Adam!
