It was a busy Spring for Adam. Having completed his run in “Cabaret”, he attended/presented for the first time at the Tony Awards. Then it was off to Europe for performances in Cannes and at the Polar Music Awards to honor Queen (Brian and Roger). He also made sure to be part of several Pride-related events. And finally, he even made time to work on some new music. Summer may be vacation time but not for him as he will be performing another dream role as Judas in “Jesus Christ Superstar” in LA.

Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl was nothing short of spectacular. Adam Lambert was PERFECT. Cynthia Erivo’s Gethsemane was one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen. If there’s a single ticket left – Go!

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is one of my favorite musicals. The movie released in 1973 caused such controversy. Why? Because some considered it sacrilegious to modernize the last days of the historic Jesus of Galilee.
Last nights version at the Hollywood Bowl was stunning and profound. I wasn’t sure about Jesus being played by Cynthia Erivo and Judas being played by Adam Lambert. Boy was I wrong.
Erivo’s singing in the Garden of Gethsemane literallly left me gasping for breath. She captured the humanity of Jesus questioning the Divine sacrifice that laid ahead. My section at the Hollywood Bowl leapt to its feet and joined the 2 minute standing ovation when she completed that song.
And Adam. Oh Adam. The beautiful complexity of Judas the Betrayer was unbelievable. Treachery or unwilling servant to the Grand Design? And the rage mixed with love and admiration. His singing brought tears of joy to my face. I was watching a historic moment last night.
So grateful for two of my LGBT heroes bringing meaning to the Jesus story for a new time and place. If you’re going tonight or Sunday – you are in for a moment …… #HollywoodBowl #JesusChristSuperstar

My thoughts on JCS. I wasn’t there but I take back any doubts I had about this production. Couple of things…I was taken aback a bit by how small Cynthia is. Adam was like a giant next to her but I got used to it watching the videos. Costuming was interesting. Modern with capes, feathers and some fringe thrown in. I didn’t care for Adam’s outfit in the finale. Was hoping it would be white & fringey..popping out from the dancers.
Speaking about the dancers, they were fantastic. So energetic.
Uncle Jesse seemed ok. He had a hard job with one day learning the part.I think Josh would have killed it but I knew he wouldn’t be back. Would still be surprised if he was on tonight or tomorrow. Covid is a beast.
Am looking for reviews but so far nothing. Maybe waiting until Sunday (the LA Times). Or maybe Hollywood Bowl shows are not reviewed? I don’t know.
Cynthia was good, very “low keyed” if you know what I mean. I was really surprised with Phillipa Soo. She is a fantastic singer. Adam…nothing more I can say that’s already been said.The whole cast was great.
