September was a month full of surprises – Adam on Idol, Adam out and about and then to wrap up the month, the announcement of the UK and European Q+AL tour in early 2015. Can’t wait to see what October has in store! In the meantime, we’ll continue with the weekly walk down memory lane and revisit the summer’s concerts.

    Somewhere from the depths of my past a Popeye pez pops up and dispenses…the worst candy I have ever tasted. Talk about a great marketing strategy! Six kids in our house and we all had to have a different character. My poor mother.

    Love that Classic Rock rumour. It would be great for Adam to be seen winning (co-winning)that kind of award. Really terrific promo and a way to talk about the US success and the Euro-tour, which has to be cut short because Adam’s new cd is coming out. Love it.

    So happy for the US yesterday. Some SSM supporters are upset but it was perfect. No one knows how Justice Kennedy will rule – he might not even know himself – so it is better to wait until more states have ruled.

    It was a perfect chess move. Now, the couples in those states who want to marry can; they are spared another year of legal limbo. Also, the 6th circuit is widely expected to render the first negative ruling on SSM shortly and this may make those judges re-think their position (rumour is they may have privately voted already.) If they over-rule the State courts in their jurisdiction, then it will go to SCOTUS – at least that’s what “Notorious RBG” has hinted might happen. (Love her BTW.)

    Their ruling will come soon and, when they rule, it will be a big story either way.

    Let’s just hope that the prediction is true, except for the name of the cd.

    TLKC, there is lots of rejoicing here in Virginia over the SCt decision to not decide! It lets things move forward immediately and the marriage license stay was lifted yesterday at 1 p.m.

    I have two thoughts on this. SCOTUS doubtless does not want another Roe vs. Wade on their hands, and most agree (with 20/20 hindsight) that the court took that cause on too soon. The states were working their way through the issue, only a small handful had decided to decriminalize abortion, but that was the definite trend and it should have been allowed to happen more organically.
    Leaving universal marriage to the states – with the strong upward tick in acceptance at the lower court and societal level – will make the eventual SCt ruling much less volatile.

    Delay also allows lots and lots of people to marry in the meantime, and every marriage makes it harder to ban future marriages and creates another full faith and credit situation.
    Time passing also gives everyone the oppy to realize that the world is not ending, and the whole issue poses no threat to anyone and does good.
    On the radio yesterday, someone called in and said that what changed his family’s mind about marriage for him and his partner was that they went to an attorney to draw up the documents that would provide them with the same legal protections that are a given for every married couple. When his family found out the financial cost – thousands of dollars and lots of documents – and still no absolute guarantee and still not everything that a married couple would take for granted – they suddenly “got it”.

    I am glad that the SCt, whatever their reasons, decided to let this percolate for a while longer to allow more of these “get it” occasions and avoid – or at least diminish – a backlash after their eventual decision. Haters gonna hate, but reasonable people seem to be sorting through this pretty well.

    Ron, I love your story about Adam. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard it before or my 29yr old brain didn’t store it very long. I’m sure you made Adam happy. Even though he didn’t need the wagon that year I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will happen for him someday.

    I love PEZ dispensers and the candy. Have gotten them for little surprise gifts for my “adult” children. Always a hit. Perfect gift for my very rich nephew. He doesn’t really want for anything so silly stuff is perfect.

    Okay, so remember when I talked about doing a song specific thread or two? Well I have been reviewing STL from most of the shows, here and in OZ, NZ and Japan,

    AND

    I do believe, in my humble opinion, Toronto 2 was the absolute best. Not because I was there, but, because of the added drama and flourishes and just…UNF of it, I just have to watch and listen to it every single day. The ending slays me. Every single time. I have shared it with friends, who proclaim it unreal. Simply unreal.

    This view is the best too, best audio, no adjectives.

    Whaddaya all think?

    I think this is fascinating (about Brian May’s red special guitar)“Each of the 16 fingerboard dot markers is a mother of pearl shirt button liberated by Brian from his mother’s sewing box. Each was meticulously shaped and filed by hand to just the right size and Brian saved the most colourful for the trio at the 24th fret”.

    I didn’t really like that God Only Knows…a bit too disjointed, too many voices singing too many styles… only recognised a few of them.

    Love that intersection photo, ulti. There is a Queen Street and a King Street in every small town and city in Canada, so there might be a few more like that.

    Best intersection in Toronto: Clinton & Gore. It is in a trendy area not too far from where Ron lives, actually. During the 1992 and 1996 elections, the Democratic party held their “get-out-the-mail-in” vote drives at a near-bye bar.

    The hair in that photo is great, luval but the eyes are so interesting. A little bit of the young Kurt Russell in there. Disney thought Kurt would be the perfect choice for Elvis.

    ETA: love your Adam photo, too, HK fan and for some reason seeing a little bit of Kurt Russell in him there as well. Hmmmmm…

    BTW, PBS is advertising it’s Fall Arts Festival. Nile Rodgers is one of a stream of artists appearing in their ad. Gaga & Tony Bennett are doing one show. Michael Feinstein is in another. There is a live concert presentation of Sweeney Todd. I would love to see Adam in one of these shows one day.

    Funny about that Kurt Russell eye comparison. One of my brothers doesn’t think Adam looks like Elvis at all but thinks he looks like Kurt Russell playing Elvis.
