Listened to that Uncasville, visually incredible, and his voice to most would be “unbelievable”, but, I detected some vocal strain, and he seemed to know it, and pushed it hard.
Just wondering , was it after this show that he didn’t do TSMGO for a bit??

Yup – you’re right, mils – checked the performances afterward – BoRhap and WWRY/WATC – and sounded fine. He performed both WWTLF and TSMGO – so an unusual concert. He was at Merriweather the next night. Amazing stamina.

Interesting “role reversal” between Adam and Queen for the X-Factor, making Adam the headliner and Queen the back-up band. I think that they are trying to emphasize how far a contestant from a singing competition show has risen. I wonder how the boys, all three of them, feel about it, and if they were consulted.

Someone has said that the X Factor ad was shown on US TV and is not necessarily the ad being used in the UK. We will have to wait for the UK crowd to advise if the billing is the same on UK TV. Since QAL has been marketed the other way all along, it sounds a bit off.

mils– You’re right about the Uncasville TSMGO from 7/19. Adam’s voice does sound slightly strained. The Merriweather show was the next night and they skipped TSMGO much to my surprise as I was standing a few feet from the B stage wedged between all those drunks in the pit. (Well, rs, cwm, and M weren’t drunk, but virtually everyone else was.) TSMGO was also missing from the East Rutherford show on 7/23. I went back and checked the set lists and TSMGO was missing from 5 shows in a row and did not surface again until Toronto 2. Now it makes sense. It’s a very demanding song vocally and Adam knows what he has to do to protect his voice.
I’ve been listening to my Queen Forever CD’s. It’s interesting how much variability there is in Freddie’s voice in these songs. On some tracks his voice is beautiful and clear. In others there is clearly some strain or gravelly tone to it. I’ll have to check to see if the tracks that sound strained were recorded later and the result of smoking and other abuse to his vocal cords. As good as Freddie’s voice is on some of these tracks, I still feel that Adam is the better vocalist and I prefer his version of the songs he’s performed.
I wonder if QAL will be making any changes to their set list for the European tour. What I would give to hear them sing “Mother Love”… Adam would just kill it!

That’s comforting to know, mmm222, that you believe he’s protecting his voice – there’s always (for me) that little nagging worry, when I see a close series of concerts, that he may do too much.
And the story behind “Mother Love” makes it even more riveting.
Not sure about all these comments on Simon, about how he will react, what he’ll say to Adam…..I don’t think he’s ever actually spoken to him apart from the judges table has he?? Adam was asked many times what Simon was like, what he said to him etc…I got the impression from his polite answers, that they only ever saw him sitting behind the judges table, that he didn’t interact with them at all. And I seem to remember an answer that he’s never seen him since the show either.
Maybe I’m remembering it wrong.

I wouldn’t think there would be any conversation between Adam and/or Queen with the judges. Like most of these shows (and I watch pretty much all of them!), the act performs and the “curtain closes”. There is no interaction between the singers and the judges. They just move on.
But I hope we just get a quick look at Simon. Very quick!
