After a very busy month of July which featured 11 concerts (5 with Queen and 6 solo – including the epic Fantasy Springs event pictured above), August begins with a short period of rest for Adam. However, as he tweeted a couple of days ago, we can expect the third single from Trespassing to be announced sometime early this month. Later in the month, Adam will head to Japan and Australia for album promo and a few concerts as well. We are also anxiously waiting to learn if Adam will be a judge or have some other regular role in the upcoming season of American Idol. In the meantime, enjoy the chat!

That beautiful, nkd – gave me a jolt – nice one.

  2. ultimathule says:

Get an application, nkd – not a link to a vid. Is that correct?

  3. ultimathule says:

Yes, Krad – haven’t read the whole article (will, though) – but understand the gist of it. See some of my daughters limiting their children’s use of the internet – one, severely limiting. That child is an interesting experiment as her ability to read and listen to book tapes at length is far beyond the average.

Definitely a topic that interests me.

  4. nkd says:

No vids have shown up yet ultimathule. I think it was about a 60 second appearance at the end of a show.

  5. nkd says:

    Get an application, nkd

Am I getting a job? Laugh

  6. ultimathule says:

Do you need one, nkd? Thought you had one here helping me out.

  7. milwlovesadam says:

nkd, I couldn’t open those. Maybe by tomorrow we’ll have some more goodies.

Just spent an hour talking with 18 year old son. He literally doesn’t know anyone who buys music anymore. If someone does give them an ITunes card, they can instantly download music from their phone. Everyone makes CD’s from You Tube, or rather, everyone puts You Tube videos on their phones, and then into IPads. They don’t care if the quality isn’t as good as a CD, because they don’t care about voice.

It’s a different mind-set. That’s why so many laugh at our love of Adam. We go ape-shit over his voice, and they don’t give a shit about voice. I don’t mean to be vulgar, but, it just gets under my skin how this younger generation is eroding something so precious and beautiful.

And they don’t pay for music. So, perhaps their appreciation is different.

This seems like a different generational divide than the ones our parents and we fought. This isn’t Big Bands vs. Rock, or Opera vs. Swing/Jazz. This is about more than that.

  8. ultimathule says:

Interesting post, mils – and those very thoughts have run through my mind. As an opera buff with hundreds of CDs, the human voice for me is the most beautiful instrument of all. And Adam’s voice is beautiful – even if what he’s singing is not my particular favorite.

Perhaps life is too busy and frantic for kids to actually sit down and listen – they talk right over the music – it’s just background for them. They don’t know what they’re missing.

  9. nkd says:
  10. Kradamour says:

Perhaps life is too busy and frantic for kids to actually sit down and listen – they talk right over the music – it’s just background for them.

Exactly. Background. Even at a concert, we have seen the younger audience members talking and almost ignoring what is happening on the stage; they are too busy tweeting and texting to fully pay attention to anything.

No wonder that the quality of the performer’s voice has become irrelevant. What my son looks for is a beat and a lyric, and the lyric better catch him on the first verse or he has moved on.

In this context, Adam’s exceptional voice is – astonishingly – not an asset.

  11. ultimathule says:

And that, Krad, is probably why stations like Z100 play Taylor Swift’s innocuous new single every five minutes and ignore Adam.

  12. ultimathule says:

    Thanks, nkd – extraordinary face.

  13. Kradamour says:

    Sad but true, ulti.

    It’s late (or early!).
    G’nite peeps.

I’m ready to take orders for the Kiev Queenbert DVD. Received cher’s DVD
and it will play on DVD players, as opposed to the DVD I passed out that
sometimes/maybe would play. I’ll put my email address on the “Trespassing
Planning Fall 2012 Concerts” thread so peeps can email me their address.

Awww, nkd, that’s lovely. Thanks for posting it. I hadn’t noticed the connection between that Map lyric and the Sleepwalker lyric before.

“I don’t need to wander anymore; I have found what I’ve been looking for” is one of my favorite lyrics of the whole album. Especially because of the the way Adam sings that line – it’s just sublime. In fact the whole song (Map) is just sublime. Both Map and Nirvana are so intimate and so tender and loving, they touch my heart really deeply and make me all gushy inside over the love that Adam and Sauli share and the tender way that Adam expresses his love.

There’s also a nice connection between Map and Runnin’.

Runnin’: “I can’t seem to breathe right, cuz I keep runnin’ (x9) from my heart…”

Map: “Now I believe in more than I can see, now I can breathe again, and I don’t need a map to know the way…”

I would like to see the numbers on illegal downloads before I would call any artists album’s performance lackluster anymore. Plus his label is well aware of what is going on in their own industry and the decision to release another single is smart with an artist and an album as good as this, IMHO.

  20. rs says:

Thanks nkd and cwm for those connections between the lyrics of the songs. I wonder if anybody but us, his faithful fans, digs that deep into the lyrics to notice things like this. He has truly brought his inner feelings to this album, and it is just one more thing that I love him for.

I love the pairing of Adam and Japan! And he really does have a sense of style (garden outfit not withstanding). With all the color in the background of the TV and stage, he really stood out with his more monochromatic and nonglittery color scheme.

And I for one am not at all worried about Adam’s carreer. His label loves him, the press loves him, his fans love him, Queen loves him, Idol loves him, the music cogniscenti (sp?) love him, Sauli loves him. He is versatile, flexible (in more ways than one, lol), daring, willing to try new things, multitalented, hard working…..and happy. He will be fine. He is a shining star Star . He is already living his dream. The rest is icing on the cake! Cake

  21. cwm says:

rs – I could not love your post any more than I do!! I totally agree with everything you said.

  22. rs says:

cwm, I sent you an email yesterday. Did you get it?

    Additional random tidbits:

Yesterday Ellen was a re-run of Adam’s appearance back in January when he sang BTIKM and talked about the Finland incident. Apparently this time they showed just a bit more of the interview with Ellen. This is a clip of the additional bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRfXNwoaIY8&feature=youtu.be

thanks cwm I love this pensive, thoughtful one. http://twitpic.com/ajgfag

I was watching ths short vids from the concert and thought about how much he learned from Queen when he was getting the audience to wave their arms during the songs. He has always been so good at engaging with the audience, but it is getting betterer and betterer

  25. rs says:

Where can I get that Adam coin? I would keep it with me for luck!

    Good Morning Sun

I awoke to find an email from Kradamour that read, in part:

I went to visit fwachdr (I call her “froggie”) this weekend, and was
worried about being able to find her house. No worries! As I came
along the street, it was suddenly obvious which house was hers!

More than happy to post the photo for you, Kradamour!

fwachdr, too funny! Love it! Laugh

Thanks to nkd and cwm for all the links. So nice to wake up to.

Did anyone hear about a Live Chat that was supposed to happen yesterday? It was cancelled/moved due to scheduling problems. Anyone know what it was and if it is happening today instead?

  33. TLKC says:

    http://yfrog.com/g9o1riccjbjjfmokgpzcrsjsz

LOL. Sauli tweeted this video of him and the band having a bit of fun. No Ashley, though.

  34. TLKC says:

I just caught up on twitter and Keisha ended up in a twitter fight last night. She complained about the price of food and it was interpreted as a cultural slander. Not a single complainer was Japanese. These ladies are doing their best and I love their excitement about the trip.

  35. TLKC says:

LOL Ron – and thanks for taking that pic Kradamour. Inspired landscaping, I must say. Off to work, now. Sorry for posting 4 in a row. Should read all the posts first and collect my thoughts.

    Have a great day everyone!

  36. luval says:

TLKC. Saw that on twitter too and wasn’t sure what it was about. Felt bad for her.

Loved the posts from last night about the music biz. I love your idea about the music kiosks, kradamour. Did you ever mention that in the past? Sounds familiar to me. Read somewhere that Red Box, the kiosk where you rent videos is catching up with netflicks.

  37. Kradamour says:

Ron, thank you for helping me with the photo!
    Kiss

froggie had both of the big trees at her driveway wrapped in tape, it was very, very impressive. “Inspired landscaping” indeed!

No, luval, I have never mentioned kiosks – at least I don’t think that I have, but things come and go in my brain. I see those red movie boxes everywhere, and always with people using them, all ages.

I can see cool music kiosks with mini posters on them, touch screens…maybe even fill up your ipod with new music at the gas station when you fill up your car.

Portable kiosks could be at concerts so kids there can buy songs, they don’t buy the CDs much even at concerts.

Ah, if only I had venture capital and the time to work on this! Clearly the present model is a giant fail. Record peeps need to think out of the box.
Kids won’t buy music because they are “supposed to”; but they might if it was cool/fun/cheap to do so.

An interesting Classic Rock Magazine review of Queen with Adam at the Apollo. Amusing reference to Adam being all”curves & castrato” – never heard that term regarding our man before, LOL

    http://brianmay.com/queen/queennews/queennewsaug12c.html#40

  39. rs says:

angelowal, we discussed this review last night. I didn’t like the criticism of Brian, suggesting that his solo was a good time to take a toilet break.

  40. ultimathule says:

Yes, that “toilet break” comment is just so old and tattered, rs – like we really want to know – gross.

  41. ultimathule says:

The pics and gifs of him here today are absolutely spectacular. Is he getting even more beautiful? And interviewers falling under the charmicide attack – Adam’s just off the charts with his people skills.

Thanks so much to all of you who’ve posted this wonderful stuff. Great morning!

  42. cwm says:

Eh, I don’t think Keisha was blameless in that twitter argument last night. It was actually a comment she made about the hotel housekeeper that someone took offense to (the comment was innocuous, but the tweeter thought she was being culturally insensitive), he called her on it, she got VERY defensive and insulted him, he insulted her back, and then it went downhill from there. Fans took sides, Reyna got involved; it wasn’t pretty. And Keisha just would NOT let it go, and she should have let it go much sooner. There’s something to be said for being gracious and mature, rising above the bait, and not engaging in a petty public war of words.

I like Keisha and Reyna and what they bring to Adam’s sound, but sometimes their posts on twitter make me think they could both use a a little less reactivity, and a little more twitter savvy, maturity, and discretion.

On a happier note, it looks like the whole band went out for dinner last night and had a great time, although it’s not clear from the tweets whether Adam was there or not.

  43. cwm says:
  44. luval says:

Thanks for that explanation, cwm. I just started following the girls and sometimes their random tweets confuse me. And like you said a little more discretion is definitely needed.

I have quite a few photos to catch up with after work. They sound like they look amazing.

  45. cwm says:

To go along with the discussion here yesterday about the state of the music business, here are a couple of interesting articles about the state of the radio business.

This one is about how the radio business is also in decline because of digital media.
    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/talk-radio-ryan-seacrest-howard-stern-carson-daly-362825

I think this decline suggests that finding alternatives to radio play for exposing people to an artist’s music is going to be increasingly important.

Another interesting pair of articles here about a deal that Clear Channel radio and the Big Machine record label (Taylor Swift’s label) have struck a deal regarding paying royalties to performers (not just songwriters) in exchange for helping to grow digital radio. A number of changes might be afoot regarding distribution of royalties in terrestrial radio vs. streaming services, and the growth of digital radio and streaming.

Ok, last post and then this post-ho has to get some work done!

Recall that the Kerry Kolsch Chick-Fil-A anti-Adam campaign theory recently re-entered our consciousness because she re-issued her manifesto to capitalize on the current media spotlight on Chick-Fil-A and in fact her “article” got picked up by some legitimate sites?

Well, chunkeymonkey over at the Home Planet has written her own manifesto regarding how Chick-Fil-A and various other nefarious sorts (like the Catholic Church and the US Government) conspired to rob Adam of his rightful Idol win, and it is HILARIOUS. Chunkey really shines when she can sink her teeth into something this juicy. LOL
