After a very busy month of July which featured 11 concerts (5 with Queen and 6 solo – including the epic Fantasy Springs event pictured above), August begins with a short period of rest for Adam. However, as he tweeted a couple of days ago, we can expect the third single from Trespassing to be announced sometime early this month. Later in the month, Adam will head to Japan and Australia for album promo and a few concerts as well. We are also anxiously waiting to learn if Adam will be a judge or have some other regular role in the upcoming season of American Idol. In the meantime, enjoy the chat!

He looks like he is having fun.

  2. Oksana2000 says:

Isn’t Queen tour just a wishful thinking? IMO it should definitely happen, but it’s up to Brian and Roger. They don’t tour cause they need money but for the joy of performing. I’m crossing my fingers for this to happen..
Trespassing Tour? Adam said many times that it depends on how well album will sell. It doesn’t sell and I lost all hope for the radio to ever play him. TS album is the one I like to listen to ( I have to admit, the slower part) but I’m not in the demo that Adam is aiming for. And I’m also in demo group that radio doesn’t care for.
I can’t imagine Adam opening for anyone. He might do what Cook did last time, i.e. co-headlining… Luckily his music is not so stale as Cook last effort, so it might work.

  3. luval says:

So here we go again with all the doom & gloom about Adam. Who is paying for the whole band & singers to Japan? Adam is living pretty well (8 or 9 thousand a month for his condo) to be doing so bad. There just has to be something going on that we don’t know about. Why would he talk to that Australian radio about Idol? Maybe nobody has asked him around here?

Guess I’ll make plans to go to Phoenix because that may be the last time we’ll see him live. Don’t mean to be sarcastic but don’t know what to think anymore.

eta: I like those concert videos on the previous page but that grey from head to toe. Yikes. I really really miss black hair, black outfits.

  4. eywflyer says:

Luval, that sort of sarcasm is why I rarely post here anymore to be honest.

  5. dcglam says:

Hey, I am not worried one single bit about Adam and his career. The guy is a megastar in the works and will continue to do his own thing in his very own way as he travels the world with his awesomeness. I’m just being a Debbie Downer about this whole Idol thing — nothing more. Wink

  6. Oksana2000 says:

luval, sorry if I sounded like doom&gloom , actually I’m thinking that everything is OK. As I said before , Adam is not a such good actor (ducks)that he could play someone who radiates happiness while being unhappy.
BTW, it’s a nice house in Hollywood Hills, not a condo, for merely 8,100/mo. Adam is business savvy and I can bet that Sauli is flying with him using gazillion frequent flyer miles that Adam had accumulated.

  7. Ron says:

I made the post about AI and then had to leave. I don’t think I should have made the post now or I should have added “take it with a grain of salt”. Once again, it’s from ‘a source’. How reliable is HollywoodLife.com with their reporting? I have no idea.

Somewhat related, I’m watching ET Canada. The “Hollywood Reporter” site published an article that Kristen Stewart was fired from the “Snow White” movie sequel. Her fans expressed outrage until a studio executive stepped in to say the story was absolutely false.

We won’t know who’s going to be on the panel until it’s made official in a couple of weeks.

  8. glambotgram says:

I like those concert videos on the previous page but that grey from head to toe. Yikes. I really really miss black hair, black outfits.

I really miss the black hair also, although he looks better in the videos, the blond/silver is just not as flattering as the black with highlights. But I still wouldn’t kick the boy out for eating crackers, if ya know what I mean. Wink

  9. Oksana2000 says:

eywflyer, we are not d&g ,rather trying to assess the whole situation realistically.
If Adam could overcome the infamous AMA crap, he can do anything. Maybe our expectation are to high? Sometimes we sound like my friend, who buys an item for $2,000 – wants to sell it for $6,000 – sells it finally for $4,000 and in conclusion tells everyone that he lost $2,000 on that transaction. (True story)

  10. Oksana2000 says:

Ron, I’ll believe Jonas story when it’s sign sealed delivered, not a second earlier….And we all know about reliable sources, won’t we?…

  11. josephine says:

I, personally, appreciate the many opinions about what is or isn’t going on with Adam…He really does enjoy keeping us on our “toes” and everyone should just bask in the glow of his happiness and sweet personality…I just want to grab him and squeeze—–and I TOOOOOO love the DARK Adam!!! In Love In Love

  12. jlurksacto says:

The only announced AI judge is Mariah Carey. All else is speculation. Enough
rumors “close to the source” to fit anyone’s mindset: glass half empty or half
    full. Have fun! ! !.

  13. josephine says:

How do you like my new “avi”????? This mountain is right out my back door and I look up at it every day— Cool

  14. glambotgram says:

josephine I like it! I wish I had a view like that, I am looking at a cornfield Big Smile

  15. dcglam says:

Exquisite view, josephine! Now I have to ask you where you live???

  16. luval says:

I don’t think I’ve ever posted like I did above. But sometimes I get soooooo frustrated and ready to give it all up…this Adam fandom thing. But unfortunately I’m hooked. Guess I have to remember that it is a roller coaster (thanks, josephine), out of our control.

eywflyer…I’ve said this before & I’ll say it again…I look forward to your posts…especially the numbers. I’d rather be shown in black & white the way it really is than be living in the la la land of fantasy. Never would have thought in a gazillion years we’d be talking about how few cd’s he’s sold in the U.S. after all that adulation from the critics.

Sorry if I offended anyone about the doom & gloom. I think most of us here feel comfortable enough to put our feelings down in a post whether it’s good or bad. Heck, how many times have I said I don’t like his hair now yet no one has blasted me for it. It’s all just personal opinions.

  17. josephine says:

I really believe that the “music community”, no matter who you are, is feeling the poor economy more than we know and Adam is doing much, much better than many others…he will be around for a long time to come because of his diversity and the world loves him—this is Mt. Shasta in northern California!!! It’s God’s mountain!!!!

  18. dcglam says:

I think most of us here feel comfortable enough to put our feelings down in a post whether it’s good or bad.

Ah luval…. Thank you for your very sweet and heartfelt post. I am almost embarrassed to admit that my feelings that I finally expressed at 6:55 this evening have been harboring inside of me for days now. This evening I was finally able to “let out” my true feelings regarding this entire Idol fiasco, and it felt good (even though it may not have been a popular opinion)!!! You are so right in that although we may not all agree in the way we look at minor details, we do agree about our love and devotion to one very special young man.

  19. josephine says:

And sometimes that frustration just HAS TO come out somewhere and why not here where we trust and understand each other—keep smiling Grin Laugh Wink

  20. Oksana2000 says:

Oh, and I forgot to say that Adam’s new hair is absolutely frikking fabulous…
My friend, who just converted to Glambertizm said simply “Pretty boy is pretty..”

  21. PlanetFierce says:

Okay kiddies….we are all tired of being patient about Idol, frustrated that his album isn’t being played on the radio and wanting to hear that a US tour with Queen is for real. So now we start snarking at each other and serving up doom and gloom. We have been here before and still haven’t learned that its a wild unpredictable ride we’re on and we are not at the controls. Hang on gang, the perfecf storm is brewing and we will get what we are hoping for….for Adam!

  22. dcglam says:

Ah Oksana…. Well, I do have to admit that gorgeous is gorgeous. But I do miss that DARK HAIR!!!! Struggle weep

  23. PlanetFierce says:

Oh and I agree…he looks amazing thesd days! Love agrees with him!

  24. Oksana2000 says:

dcglam, I think that we were blessed with the same hairdo for almost a year and we knew what’s coming. I was always dreading DARK MOHAWK !!!!

  25. ultimathule says:

On page 29 quoted from Music Week (UK) on how terrible album sales are, including Rihanna. The Biz is a mess for performers.

Have no idea what Adam’s future holds in this environment – all I know is that right now he looks damn happy. Guessing something’s right.

  26. ultimathule says:

And, mils, that pic on the previous page is dynamite – there’s that Greek God look. Lovin’ it.

  27. luval says:

ultimathule…you are correct about Music Week UK. You have to subscribe to get the whole article and it sounds like an interesting one. I thought there might be some way around it but I couldn’t find any.

  28. Kradamour says:

Wow. Just read this page…I didn’t see any snark or “anti” posts; I think that everyone was respectful, as usual, but expressed some honest feelings.

I am thinking that it is AMAZING that the label will release another single, given the lackluster performance of the CD. Whether it does well or poorly, the mere fact that it is going to be released is fricking awesome.

I also think that Adam has every reason to be very, very proud of the product. He is a musician’s musician, and the album has gotten verbal high-fives from a lot of people in the business and reviewers. Don’t remember Rolling Stone’s score, but it was impressive.

Financials: I think I read somewhere quite a few months ago that Adam is worth about 6 million dollars, or netted that much from his tour, or something or other in that ball park. Six million dollars, wisely invested in the right financial instruments, can produce a return – without touching the principal – of several hundred thousand dollars per year, even if he never earns another dollar. And it is safe to say that the 6 million is more now, it was before TS album sales and this year’s performances. Presumably Queen paid him something, too.
    Wink

We are very invested in the Trespassing CD, but Adam seems to have moved on already. He worked very, very hard to create the product, and once it went out there, and was received/reviewed/performed…well, that was probably all he needed from that (psychically). He has a lot to feel good about for this album.

Were there missteps? Well, most of us think so. The videos were released too late, for example.

But overall, it was a picture-perfect album reception, even if sales are disappointing and it doesn’t get radio play.

Clearly Adam is very happy, and that is what our primary hope for him is. Some of us want him to play arenas, some want him to tour with Queen, some want to see him in a movie, or etc. etc.

But we all want him to be happy and financially secure. And guess what? He is happy and financially secure.
    Chic

And we want him to continue to make music. And is there any chance that he will stop making music, because an album wasn’t as successful in the US as we (and his label) would like?
    Um…no.
I think that is a very safe prediction.
I remember from Adam’s friendster page (way back in the day!) that he posted something along the lines of “I sing. All the time. Deal.”
We haven’t seen anything that would lead us to think that he has given up that love.
He sings. It might sell, it might not. Deal.

  31. milwlovesadam says:

Although I appreciate everyone’s perspectives, I’m not joining in on the Greek Chorus. No tragedy here. He is happy, gorgeous, and gifted in so many ways I can’t even keep track.

He’s performing in Japan, they love him to death. He has Australia coming up, where they also love him to death. I can’t wait for Oz. Such great stuff happens when he’s down under. Ahem.

He is an international star. His star is rising. Look, his HAIR got major news this week. His HAIR people!!! If that’s not household name, or recognition quality, I don’t know what is!

All I can tell you is this: I was just driving through our mall after an expensive trip to Kohl’s in preparation for my boys going off to school very soon, and the mall is re-designed as an outdoor mall, like a mini town ( really pretty at night ) and I had you know who playing at 11, and the song was Cuckoo. I had to slow way down and turn a corner, and there were about 15 tween girls clustered together there. They heard my music playing, and gave me a thumbs-up and said almost in unison “Adam !! She’s playing Adam!!”

I just smiled, gave a big thumbs-up back to them and said “Yay!!”

That made me so very happy.

Now. How do they know his music? Did one of their moms buy the CD and they all copied it and shared it? Probably. Did they illegally download it? Probably. The state of the business is horrible. However, these kids knew him and loved him. That’s still a good thing in my book.

  32. milwlovesadam says:

Oooh, Kradamour, looks like we posted at almost the same time with similar thought patterns.

  33. Kradamour says:

mils, I am still sad that we did not meet in Des Moines. We do seem to share a brainwave in some fundamental ways.

  34. riskylady says:

    Well, I still am optimistic.
Trespassing has been hovering between #94 and #110 in iTunes Pop for the past couple of weeks, so I believe sales continue sort of steady in the 2,000 range weekly because that’s where it’s been before that too.
The video for NCOE has also been staying in the top 200 in iTunes Pop videos, currently at #106.
Videos for BTIKM and NCOE still going good on Vevo.
But at this point, I am more optimistic about the rest of the world and totally do not care about the US sales/radio/et al. Still, there is a lot we don’t know, for example, track sales and single sales.
I think Adam has earned nice chunks of money with his gigs and will be fine. I do think there will be more with Queen, just don’t know when.
NOW: THANK YOU JAPAN FOR BRINGING BACK THE STOMPS AND CLAPS IN TRESPASSING. HOT DAMN, if there is a tour here I WANT TO SEE STOMPING AND CLAPPING, DAMMIT.

And, to finish my little rant: It just infuriates me how certain reviewers (looking at you, Classic Rock) have to tiptoe around actually praising Adam’s voice and singing, and how glorious he sounded on Queen’s music, lest they lose their credibility with the holdout die-hards. Yes, it is a nice review in that there are certain well-chosen words like “majestic” or “rapturous” but none of these are directed at the actual vocalist. Still, better than a negative one, I guess.

  35. luval says:

The audience claps & arm raisings were so amazing in those videos! Gave me the chills & you could tell Adam just loved it! Reminded me of Radio GaGa.

I love your occasional rants, riskylady. Smile

Article on August 14 WSJ: (Ethan Smith in Technology)

“Forget CDs. Teens Are Tuning Into YouTube”

Nielsen Survey says more youngsters listen to music via Video-Sharing Site.

“Nearly two-thirds of U.S. teenagers under the age of 18 say they use Google Inc.’s video-sharing site to listen to music, more than any other medium.”

“In addition to treating YouTube as a de facto free music service, young people said they are less inclined than those 18 years old and up to listen to CDs or the radio.”

Also: “Record companies and music publishers typically realize some revenue from advertising that appears with their videos on YouTube. But it is only fractions of a cent per play, and not nearly enough to replace the revenue that has been lost as CD sales have been decimated.”

(Lots more interesting info in the article re adult music use and services like Spotify.)

  37. milwlovesadam says:

    Kradamour, you have email.

  38. milwlovesadam says:

ultimathule, that is interesting info, and it validates what we’ve all been thinking and saying. I just don’t know how the music industry is going to survive. Ticket prices will keep going up, musicians will need to tour constantly, and getting a record deal will be harder and harder because the industry won’t be able to afford to record and promote artists. Someone is going to need to invent something new or different. Or try to devise a way to stop all this music sharing that’s killing the business.

  39. Kradamour says:

Most young teens don’t have credit cards so how are they going to pay for downloads even if they want to?

The itunes model only works for people who have an account and a credit card or paypal. For the average teen, something needs to take its place. Perhaps kiosks in 7-11s (for example, or anywhere/everywhere) where kids could buy a card with cash and swipe it for tunes that they could also listen to first, like they can on amazon etc.

(And of course many of us have the problem that music is in fact not global: for example, I have no way to download most music from France except to pirate it.)

  40. milwlovesadam says:

Kradamour, ITunes cards are available at almost every store for cash purchase. I’ve been buying them for every kid I know for every holiday and important event ( graduations, etc. ) for years. It seems like after the age of 10 or so, that’s all the kids have wanted for gifts anyway.

But, you are right, in a credit card society, something needs to change. The concept we were raised with of saving your money, going to the store and buying singles or records is so old-fashioned it’s laughed at nowadays.

Oh, and speaking of foreign purchases, I listened to TSP form the UK today in my car. I just love Map. I wish it were longer. He really gets his voice going toward the end, and then it’s over. You can hear so much more in your car, or with a great audio system, than you can in a You Tube version.

Which is yet another reason why music must be purchased!!

  41. Kradamour says:

Yes, itunes cards are available…but can’t be immediately redeemed where purchased or given, and kids want immediate gratification.

itunes is a very solitary purchase model. As an adult, I like it. If I were a teen? I’d download illegally. Not fun to make a music purchase.

Remember going to a record store with friends, and picking out records? It was a social activity, and we still have warm memories of it. Not because of the music we purchased, but because of the act of purchasing.

I like the idea of music kiosks and it might even take off. Put them in malls, fast food places, libraries, wherever.
It might even become cool to join friends at a kiosk to listen to and buy music. They could even be itunes kiosks, no need to create a new retail creature. I can think of lots of fun promotions – and how much fun is it to sit at a computer and click, pay, download all by yourself? That model is totally not teen-oriented.
    IMHO
    Thinking

  42. Teri63 says:

Kradamour, I think your idea for music download kiosks is brilliant. You’re absolutely right that all the fun has been taken out of music buying for kids.

  43. Kradamour says:

…and maybe itunes cards could be less boring. Maybe they could have pictures of recording artists on them.
I am liking this idea more and more.
I wonder if it would actually work?
    Question

  44. Teri63 says:

Wow, Kradamour, you must have eaten all your spinach at dinner tonight. You’re full of great ideas!

  45. milwlovesadam says:

Wow. I shoulda had spinach tonight instead of kale I guess!! Those are great ideas Kradamour. Now, go take your legal background and make it so!!

Kids do need instant gratification. And, the younger generation, under 30, does too. They were raised in the video game era and need instant ideas, instant feedback, and get bored very easily with no ideas of how to not be bored or entertain themselves.

I think this is why they don’t buy whole CD’s. Money isn’t the whole reason. It has to do with the way their brains are wired now, and how they need to constantly be doing something different or multi-tasking. I don’t think that younger ones, in general, are able to listen to a whole CD. It would be boring. The cover story of Newsweek a few weeks ago addressed this from a neuro-science perspective that was fascinating and scary all at once.

  46. ultimathule says:

Kiosks sound like a good idea. I go to Starbucks a lot and on Tuesdays they have free iTunes songs/apps cards that you can download. I’ve used a few of them and found music that I like.

  47. ultimathule says:

Loss of concentration for extended periods is a growing problem – includes not just kids, but adults as well. Few can plow through Henry James’s long paragraphs without coming up for air frequently. A while back bought a paperback of Tocqueville’s Democracy in America for one of the kids without checking the translation. Whatta a difference from the older translation I have – short declarative sentences – definitely Tocqueville for the modern age.

Shouldn’t talk – sure my concentration has diminished as well – the internet with all its goodies has been my downfall.

  48. Kradamour says:

I did have a spinach omelette for dinner! Too funny!
    Grin

Buy a whole album? Not gonna happen. Part of the model has to be pricing singles for less than $1.29 (and what a strange price!). The cool stores do not end their prices with 9, btw. A dollar.
    Or 50 cents.

If we are serious about selling music, it has to be fun and almost painless. Why not 50 cents a song? That is a lot more than zero, and kids might even pay it.
Or “Ten Cent Tuesdays”? with a limit of one song, the others will be 50 cents. Albums are released on Tuesdays.

That Newsweek article was terrifying. Here is the article if anyone wants to read it:
