Can you tell us any news of Sauli and Adam from the Finnish perspective? Is Sauli really well known there?

I don’t know the perspective of every person here and I am not a celeb follower myself, but I try to figure out something that I’ve been thinking
When BigBrother first came in here, I watched the first season (2005?) because I was curios to see that “put a group of people into the closed environment ans see what happens” -experiment. I am interested in human dynamics… I was surprised how it hooked me (I followed the web-pages too!). Even though part of it was very boring to watch (when they had nothing to do and the conversation was less than interesting). So later seasons I decided not to start watching regularly, only time to time. But my parents (!) watched it a lot, so I was reported about it
I remember watching it sometimes when Sauli was on, so I knew who he was. He was very kind and cute and nice, was not manipulating or talking behind anyone’s back. And he was playful and funny. So he won because everyone in the house and outside liked him and his personality.
Is Sauli famous? I think most people here know who he is, because the magazines write so much about current BigBrother and other reality shows. But there are always people who don’t watch or read any entertainment, so he’s not known by every person. But he was so popular, that it created him a career in entertainment business after BB, a fan base who wanted to see him on tv and shows also after that. I didn’t know about his shows etc until I read about them lately. He was (and still is) in the entertainment business, but was not written in the news that much after his winning year I guess. I don’t know who are the big stars here. Most “stars” can freely live their everyday life, no need for security. But if someone who has been in a public eye does something embarrassing, some papers very willingly report it… That’s quite global I think.
I don’t have a clear vision when I first noticed the afternoon newspapers (sites) wrote about Sauli and Adam. I knew who they were (saw/heard Adam on Idol 2009), but wasn’t following either of them. But at some point it certainly caught my attention, I think it was one of those red carpet -pictures of them… My guess is that for entertainment news it was a very delicious situation: a famous American singer who was also known in Finland + a well known Finnish reality star who happened to work for one of those papers too
So now certain papers/sites make a news of every piece of info about them… About Adam’s tweets too… Sigh. What annoys me, is that it is very seldom about music – the same thing in U.S. too?
I’ve been thinking lately – concerning also Adam’s publicity in U.S. – that is it always a good thing to be a celebrity/famous in a way that your every move is in the eye of papers? It keeps people talking about you, but can it also have a reverse effect? Can it annoy some people, who might like his music, but they don’t even know (or don’t want to find out) because they think he is just a celebrity for nothing real? Some people who might appreciate the great voice, can get a very wrong image of who he really is based on those very superficial news/pictures (red carpets, romantic holidays, drunken arrests etc). That’s very common among people I know. Their reactions after I’ve told to whom I have fallen: “That teenager’s star, really?” “You mean that American who is with that Finnish…?” “I don’t like his looks, he has too much make-up”. And no one of them has ever seen him perform. They have been surprised when I have told what’s he really like, how seriously he takes music. And many have changed their opinions after seeing/hearing some of his performances. What do you think of that celebrity-bias? Do some people hate him because of the way he is presented in public? Not so many people go to in-depth interviews, which really show what he’s like.

LadyNorth – thank you so much for all of that great information about Sauli and Adam in Finland! I’ve always wondered what the general perception was in Finland of Sauli, of Adam, and then of Sauli + Adam.
Regarding the celebrity treatment in the media, I think no matter where in the world you are, once you are seen as a celebrity and get covered in the celebrity gossip sites, it’s a double-edged sword. It keeps you on people’s radar screen, which is great. But it can also be very superficial coverage, which can give people a very one-dimensional portrait of you, unless they seek out more accurate information about you.
The Japan pics look great. I find it funny that Adam goes for a color that most of us 29 year old fans are trying to get rid of.

Thanks cwm, you’re welcome! But don’t shoot me if my media analyses is not correct… I think it depends very much on the target group you are talking about. Different target groups know different celebrities. And my target group doesn’t talk about celebrities at a coffee table
As far as I know, Sauli’s fans are younger women, also some older but women. So that’s another common thing with Sauli and Adam 
I guess it’s very often so, that if you haven’t seen someone doing the thing that made him/her famous, your perceptions come from something else. Do you have any idea how many people saw Adam performing on Idol in U.S.? I don’t know how many watched here, but FYE sold about 12 500 (it was on 9th place / foreign albums 2010, sold gold). So as a new foreign artist Adam was very popular by sales, but I don’t know if he was in headlines then, I don’t think. Maybe when he performed here in X-factor May 2010.

I don’t see his hair as anything like Taylor Hicks or Richard Gere’s. Theirs is salt and pepper, or pure gray. Adam’s is silver gray/blond with ash blond at the roots. Not salt and pepper.
I’m wondering how it would look with that gray suit he wore on Graham Norton ( was that his name?), or with the blue suit he wore at Royal Albert Hall? Gorgeous.

I actually like Adam’s new hair color. It’s an interesting silver color with dark undertones. It’s much better with his coloring than a washed out white blond and will look great with the zebra pants. The dark wolf is better, but a silver wolf is fine for now. (Really, any color is better than shaved sides…ugh!)

Oh, and I’m liking Adam’s hair in the smokey color. Didn’t like the yellow at all. Maybe it was just a color that was necessary as an in-between step in the process of going from dark to light. IDK. And he probably commented to Sauli “Watch this, lemme tweet this and see how crazy they will get over this little bit of messing with my hair”. To some of us, it was a big deal, even though it was totally his discretion to do whatever.

I’m undecided about the hair. Of course, Adam is still great looking no matter what. I’d like to see a performance before deciding.
A friend of mine lost her hair during cancer treatments and she wore wigs and hats for a while. She said people treated her differently depending on what color her wig was. I told her that maybe she acted different depending on the color of her wig. If she felt sexier as a blonde, she may have acted a little differently and people responded to that.
Just curious as to how this change will affect Adam’s performance style and how people react to him.
