Adam has apparently wrapped up his US radio promo tour, at least for the moment, as April begins. Above we see Adam as he spent the last several weeks – hard at work with promo. This is (hopefully) finally the last month – for real – before Adam’s new “Trespassing” album will be released. The album is scheduled to drop on May 15. Will we get a second single ahead of the album release date? Will Adam perform on American Idol sometime in the next several weeks? We’ll know soon – in the meantime enjoy the chat!

Congrats to everyone who got tickets today for Wilkes Barre. It’s a wonderful theatre and it should be a great concert. Congrats Eywflyer on getting your VIPs. You so deserve this. Full report, please. Wish I could go to this concert, but just too much going on, and it’s a full 1.5 day drive from where I am.

Mieps, thanks for posting the link. I’ll go have a look.

  2. glambotgram says:

nkd I think most of us at least got tickets, but not M&G Cry As a matter of fact we have too many tickets but will have to see who has the best ones, and sell the others. I am going to try again Monday for a M&G. I want to sniff and hug sooo bad.

  3. Kradamour says:

Wooot! After a frustrating morning, resulting in only “meh” tickets, I called the box office on a whim this evening and got front row mezzanine for adamized and me, seats 1 and 3. My favorite seats! We’ll sprinkle glitter on y’alls heads below… Grin

eywflyer, I am so happy for your m&g tickets!!! Totally deserved and yes, a recap will be in order! It sounds like a very leisurely M&G, such good fortune!

So glad that we will be a little posse at the Kirby. Who all now?

Nope Krad Cher’s not coming. Just got the tickets because cgesq couldn’t buy from out of the country. Have fun for me! Grin

By the way, I’m having trouble upgrading from my original pre-order of Trespassing at AO to the $49.00 box set. When I click on the upgrade link in my email, I go to the upgrade page on the AO site, choose upgrade, and then get an error message on the “confirm purchase” page, because the pricing is all messed up. It says $49.99 + $3.98 shipping = $15.97. Obviously, the original $11.99 purchase price is still stuck in there. I’ve tried on two different computers with no luck and emailed customer support to little avail (they suggested enabling cookies and disabling the firewall). Has anybody else had this problem?

cwm did you get this resolved because I’m having the exact same problem. What a week! (“It Ain’t Easy Being An Adam Fan”)

  6. Kradamour says:

I was surprised to hear that you scored tickets, cher! thought you would be out of country. (Alas!) Should have realized that you were being your glamgodmother self. Smile

So – dinner together before the event? gotta say that the reunion will be as much fun as the concert – almost! Can’t wait to hear some new stuff live!
And gotta say I like the other acts a lot better than Orianthi. I thought her set would never end.

  7. glambotgram says:

OMG, thanks to all of you piecing together the lyrics of Broken English. They’re so awesome!

Isn’t it funny that now that we know what the lyrics are….. it is now so obvious what those lyrics are. LOL Of course that is what he is saying! DOH!

  8. glambotgram says:

Glad you got good seats Kradamour We are still waiting for sparkle to see what seats she got and see which ones are the best, then will have to try and sell the other ones. We were all three trying(including Cher helping out cgesq) and all three got tickets, so we will be selling some of them, after we figure out which of us has the best ones.

  9. ultimathule says:

Teri63 – where were the negative reviews of NCOE posted? Anywhere important? Thanks

  10. eywflyer says:

Hey guys – just woke up a little while ago – working a long string of night shifts. Thanks for all of the kind words! It is very exciting to have finally gotten M&G after trying so many times before. I’ll definitely post a recap afterwards! I will need someone to step up and run the concert thread that night, if you are willing and interested please email me.

I have set up a separate thread, viewable by registered site members only, for Wilkes-Barre and other U.S. concerts planning:

For the Queen + Adam Lambert concerts in the UK, we have this members-only thread:

  11. Teri63 says:

ultimathule: No, I don’t think the negative reviewers were particularly important, but I’ll hunt down the links for you. I mean, it’s not like I expect the world to love Adam — I just so want them to! LOL! I want his stuff to sell so he’s around forever!

Has this been posted? Sorry if it’s a duplication.

  13. Teri63 says:

Ultimathule: Here’s one of the not so positive reviews I saw for NCOE. When I find the other I’m thinking of, I’ll add it here.

    http://www.newnownext.com/lambert-single/04/2012/

ETA: I can’t locate the second one I’d seen. It was a review of three new songs, one of which was NCOE. It was just some obscure music blog — could have been a complete homemade deal — but the author claimed to have been a fan who was disappointed with BTIKM and is now equally disappointed with NCOE. If I run across it in my wanderings tonight, I’ll link it, although it was really kinda doom-and-gloomy! LOL!

  14. Teri63 says:

Congrats to everyone scoring tickets and/or meet-n-greets. I’m so happy for you all and can’t wait to hear about your Adam-experiences!

  15. luval says:

Teri63…I saw that not so nice post too about NCOE and it kinda burst my bubble. But it seemed he didn’t like much of anything by Adam.

  16. ultimathule says:

  17. Kradamour says:

Ceddies, loved that popdust interview – thank you for posting it!

  18. Teri63 says:

I’ve now officially listened to the Trespassing snippets more than I’ve listened to some of the albums I’ve purchased over the years! I can’t get enough of “Shady,” and now that some of you have deciphered some of those super sexy lyrics of “Broken English,” I’ve got that one on repeat, too.

  19. Kradamour says:

Just watched the Sauli interview with Jani. A very talented interviewer! He asked some pointed questions, and allowed Jani to speak (unlike some interviewers who mostly like to hear themselves…), and was respectful and intellectually quick. I enjoyed it very much – Sauli is quite no-nonsense in this interview and I ended the interview with a good picture of who Jani is, I think.
Plus Sauli is gorgeous, of course. Smile
Adam chose well! (IMHO, of course)

I agree with Teri63, I want NCOE to work out, just so some of the gutsier songs can see the light of day. Really impressive to have a good half dozen of very strong songs on one album. Adam has reason to be proud, no matter if the commercial success follows or not.

ITA, even though I don’t personally like the song very much. I do worry that he is becoming known for the slower less interesting songs. WWFM (yawn), BTIKM (meh) and now the Bruno song.
The faster he gets some of his own hot dance-y music out there, the better I’ll sleep at night. At 30, he doesn’t have time to be pigeonholed.
So let’s get the Bruno song on the charts, then speedily throw another one out there.
I wish the Bruno song had never happened. Someone posted speculation a few pages back that the suits at RCA wanted it to happen, and the explanation seemed totally plausible. But NCOE is boring. If Adam is serious about top 40, and he is, something a lot more exciting needs to get out there. Trespassing is an amazing CD, as far as we can tell without having actually heard it all. It would be too much of a shame if it becomes one of those one-off novelties, with critical success but little airplay. IMHO.

And on another note…at the Kirby in Wilkes Barre…it will be a short set for Adam. I am really really hoping against hope that none of that time will be wasted on WWFM. But it probably will be. Sigh. Grammy nom and all. Never mind.

Damn I’m cranky tonight! time to sign off and get some sleep.
    G’nite peeps!

cwm, I am having a major fail trying to upgrade my order too. I got my email from Sony/MyPlay. I clicked on upgrade, I got an error message, then the big “Oops” screen. So I emailed them. They responded the next day and told me to do what I was already doing. It failed again, no matter what I did.

So, I emailed them again. They responded today and told me to enable cookies or try another computer or browser, get this, disable my firewall.

Now, I love me some Adam, and I really really want the upgrade, but there is no f*cking way I’m doing that.

My Play can kiss my ass. I may try through my son’s g-mail . I just want the DVD/CD. I heard the box sex is not available anyway anymore.

  26. ultimathule says:

Thought the WWFM era was over. He’d actually sing it at an upcoming concert? Isn’t the band rehearsing other stuff?

  27. ultimathule says:

Maybe in five or so years I’ll listen to WWFM again – just that Berlin acoustic if I do.

  28. ultimathule says:

    This is damn depressing.

  29. ultimathule says:

I thought NCOE was said to be more uptempo than Cuckoo, Trespassing, etc.

  30. ultimathule says:

How come there’s no Idol date yet? Is there gonna be one?

  31. ultimathule says:

Why does 29 seem so much younger than 30?

  32. cwm says:

mils – you are having the exact same problem I have been having and got the exact same advice I got from customer service at MyPlayDirect! (Was it Victor who replied to you in “broken english”? LOL) I tried it at home on my laptop and desktop, and at work on my laptop and desktop. Same results everytime.

So I think I’ll just go with the brute force approach – go in and order the box set as a new customer, and then go back in and cancel my original $11.99 CD order.

  33. cwm says:

Haha ultimahule – what are you going on about being all depressed? Cheer up girl! OF COURSE he’s gonna perform new music! LOL Everyone was at rehearsal tonight. Live performances of new music coming up within a week!

And yes, he will probably also perform WWFM because, well, it is after all his biggest hit to date. I’ve never been to a concert where the artist didn’t perform their biggest previous hit(s) in addition to the new music. I think a lot of people (probably more casual fans) love that song and would be disappointed not to hear him sing it live. Smile

But the bottom line is that *soon* we’re gonna get a bunch of performances of NEW SONGS!!

  34. ultimathule says:

Thank you, cwm!! I want NEW stuff – it’s just so great – the world should hear it – the young ones all loved the snippets – and, believe it or not, they then asked to hear BTIKM (we were in the car today). This album is spectacular! Thank you again, needed an uplift.

LMFAO when I heard LMFAO was second in the amount of Billboard Music Award nominations after Adele. What is the world coming to?

Eta: makes me a bit concerned about Trespassing. The buying public doesn’t seem to care about the words and meaning of a song. Just the beat. Even at some of the radio promos the dj’s didn’t seem to be paying attention to the dark and light and how we all have those sides. It may be too deep for some. NCOE is definitely safe. I really want him to release something peppy! Agree with kradamour’s post last night about moving on quickly if the song doesn’t catch on. But we’ll never know if radio doesn’t play it!

  39. HK fan says:

asif he’s a very kind soul….and tactful, as although it was far from an awful performance, it certainly wasn’t flawless….the falsetto made me wince several times. And the staging, not good, for the first half of the song he either had his back to the audience or was hidden by the piano.

  40. Teri63 says:

The buying public doesn’t seem to care about the words and meaning of a song. Just the beat.

Luval, I agree with most of your post, but I do think that a lot of the public gets into lyrics. I think that’s one of the reasons Adele made such a splash: because in the midst of this time of generally vapid pop music, she reintroduced the concept of meaningful songs. She’s being viewed as “fresh,” but, really, she’s rather retro to me, bringing back the lyrical vibe of some of the songs that were popular back when I was growing up in the 1970’s and ’80’s. The cool thing about Adam’s music is that he truly has blended retro with modern, as well as catchy, sing-along tunes and intelligent lyrics. I’m with you that radio needs to play NCOE so that Adam charts high enough to get some of his more interesting material played. Hopefully, all the spring flings he’ll be doing will garner him some support from those stations.

  41. Kradamour says:

Whether or not too deep, not considered important. We know that Adam overthinks things, and he had a lot of time to overthink this album. He wants to tell a story…

There is a real conflict between being talented amazing Adam, and being what sells, which seems to be getting more and more banal, and where vocal ability is really optional, and where the lyrics are simple and repetitive over a simple beat. I think we have to acknowledge that what Adam brings to the table may be something that has a less than universal appeal, even though we can’t see that (for all the right reasons!), and that his talent and skilz and thoughtful approach to an album definitely aren’t essential for success, and may even be off-putting to some. As you said, luval, some DJs were actually dismissive/impatient with what Adam wanted to say about the album.

Adam is a musician’s musician and a singer’s singer. He is articulate and intelligent. In the world of top 40, those characteristics aren’t necessarily negatives, but I’m not sure that they are pluses either.

Adam wants to be successful. So he uses autotune (but he is quick to say that he uses it less than some others) and adds electronic elements to his voice, even though it is to our ears flawless unadorned.

Nothing new in this post, we’ve said it all before. Just for heavens’s sake let us get the album and hear it all and see what happens!

(so sorry to hear of the problems with the upgrade, peeps – now I am wondering if my upgrade order actually happened, I’ll have to go look. Adam could make a lot more money if the marketing peeps were not such idiots. 2012 calendar, anyone?) Frown

ETA: Teri63, I liked your post a lot. I think Adele caught a lot of people in the industry off-guard.

  42. Teri63 says:

I think Adele caught a lot of people in the industry off-guard.

I think so, too. I also think that, like Adam, her fans are of all ages, with many of them being on the mature side. Her base is obviously much larger, but I would bet that if broken down statistically, they are somewhat similar in make-up. My point is that I do think that, along with Adele and Bruno Mars, Adam’s on the cutting edge of a new trend to bring the music back to music. The older fans are loving the departure from the repetitive, meaningless crap out there — but Adele’s and Bruno’s enormous fan bases suggest there are a lot of young people who also yearn for melody.

What sets Adam apart from Adele and Bruno, in my opinion, is that he’s uniting melody with both retro and modern electronic sounds both in the instrumentation and the vocals. I don’t think he’s doing it just to succeed, I think he’s aiming at being inventive and trend-setting. If nothing else, I hope he earns critical acclaim. I believe that he’ll make enough on one-offs and touring to live a comfy life and get him a shot at another album, but critical success would help ensure that he’d have great people wanting to work with him again.

  43. little dutchess says:

    luval. asifclueless, & HKfan
    Loved your posts.
Adam is too deep for some and most peeps listening to pop music don’t care about the words and meaning especially when it gets complicated and needs to be interpreted!! But that’s our boy! (we love it but others…???)

And Re: his kind soul and praise for Kris; Adam is good people; we know that;he would never deliberately say anything to hurt someone, would always look for the good. Kris’performance wasn’t horrendous but certainly wasn’t “flawless” Yes,that falsetto part every time was sad at best. I kinda liked it on his video but live was a problem.

Are we saying here that Adam is almost too good to get Top 40 type of success?

  45. Teri63 says:

Are we saying here that Adam is almost too good to get Top 40 type of success?

My opinion, for what it’s worth, is that he can make it in Top 40. I truly believe much of the public will embrace interesting lyrics if they’re singable and combined with a good beat. I think Adam is introducing a new sound by combining coy, Prince-like lyrics with modern influences. I truly think he has his own thing going on and that that thing could strike big. I think his management thinks so, too, which is why they’ve done kind of a slow transition to his new vibe. BTIKM was reminiscent of WWFM but with more electronic production. NCOE steps it up another notch, juxtaposing his gigantic, gorgeous vocals (with, as a couple reviewers have noted, a little more grit than we’ve heard in the past) with a lively electronic dance beat. It’s not my favorite on the album, according to the snippets we’ve heard, but I think it’s very Top 40 friendly and a really good segue to the meatier offerings on the album.

Are we saying here that Adam is almost too good to get Top 40 type of success?

Maybe, ulti. At least that is my opinion. Haven’t we all seen this in our respective careers? Peeps who are mad talented, and wonderful people, but for some reason the career never “clicks” into overdrive, even though they receive professional accolades and enjoy successful careers, they are never the industry superstars that someone from the outside looking in would expect.

Okay, no more of this from me. Even if Adam never had a top 40 hit, his career and his financial future are assured for as long as we 29 yr. olds have breath in our bodies. We needn’t worry for our boy. His life is good, and he has the outspoken respect of his peers. He has loyal friends, and a strong partnership with someone wonderful.

This album will tell, and we know for a fact that there are some amazing tracks to get out there whether or not the Bruno song is a hit.
May 15 is not very far away now!

  47. ultimathule says:

    Thanks, Teri – makes sense.

  48. ultimathule says:

What would be considered a success in the Pop World?

  49. Teri63 says:

What would be considered a success in the Pop World?

That’s a question with lots of room for interpretation! From my selfish point of view, success for Adam would be acceptance to the extent that his new music receives enough spins to warrant the subsequent release of other new Adam music. It would also be a sign of success to me if Top 40 PDs programmed his music into the lineup early-on after impact rather than first waiting to see how his songs pan out on HotAC. I think that if a song like NCOE charted well and then he released another, like “Cuckoo,” and it also charted well, Top 40 stations would be quicker to pick him up, and that, to me, would indicate success on that format.
