Adam has apparently wrapped up his US radio promo tour, at least for the moment, as April begins. Above we see Adam as he spent the last several weeks – hard at work with promo. This is (hopefully) finally the last month – for real – before Adam’s new “Trespassing” album will be released. The album is scheduled to drop on May 15. Will we get a second single ahead of the album release date? Will Adam perform on American Idol sometime in the next several weeks? We’ll know soon – in the meantime enjoy the chat!

Hello again – thanks to Delta wifi I’m online from
36000 feet. Texaswannaholdem, you are right I do try to always call it straight up. From the start I felt that BTIKM was going to be a moderate hit at best, sound was just too dated. The video helped for me but I think dcglam is correct, it was too deep for many.

I see NCOE as a supercharged version of IIHY – an awesome summer song that should be Adams biggest hit so far. I’d be really surprised if it doesn’t make top 10 on pop. #1 would be incredible – but i dont know if Adam can get there yet with some radio folks still thinking of him as primarily an Idol product. Not sure about HAC radio – possibly too clubby for them. Remixes should sell well and get plenty of club play too.
Will be exciting to track the adds and airplay soon! Unlike BTIKM, NCOE should sell as a single track too and chart in the Hot 100 for more than a week.

  2. luval says:

    mils…Michael Slezak…Idolatry? oops..already mentioned.

Durbin on Idol right now. Yikes is all I can say.

  3. cwm says:

Yeah, Ellessay, I saw that People magazine bit online a couple of days ago and didn’t even bring it here because it’s so pathetic. They call the piece an update on “where are they now?” and the best they can do and most recent they can come up with is talk about an event that happened 2.5 years ago??

    Such bullcrunky.

  4. asifclueless says:

PLAY IT ON REPEAT : Vic Cardinali has a riddle for you.

What do you get when you combine the out of this world vocals and performing chops of Adam Lambert, the brilliant lyrics and storytelling of Bruno Mars, and the dance pop masterful production of Dr. Luke?

  5. milwlovesadam says:

Here’s what I’m thinking. Adele showed that good vocals still sell and get radio play. There are a few songs out now with good vocals, good melody, not rap, hip-hop with Pitbull mixed in, ( Gawd, I hate that).

So, maybe this is exactly the right time for a male singer to hit big with killer vocals.

I predict huge success for Trespassing, especially in Europe. I also predict a major year for our boy.

  6. TexasWannaHoldEm says:

cwm, of course you can be in our “Blind Love Club! But actually, I’ve always thought of you as someone who’s a bit more knowledgeable and realistic than me – the only thing I’m certain of is that Mr. Wonderful has stolen my heart and my brain – sometimes I look at myself and think “WTF, girlfriend?”

  7. Kradamour says:

I still feel that the BTIKM video was way too deep for the mainstream video watchers.

True. But I also think that it wasn’t intended for the larger public, really, it was for his existing fans. We got it.

Ellessay‘s post above is pretty sobering. We know so much, we can fill in so many blanks…but for 99% of the population it is still “Adam who?” or “Adam Lambert? That gay guy from Idol?”

The next video needs be more accessible. If you have to explain a joke, it isn’t funny. If you have to explain a video or even a song, then it was overthought. Adam definitely overthinks, is proud of it, and likes to tell people what he was doing/writing/taping to bring us into the project with him.

It is probably Adam’s achilles heel, that he isn’t really made to be what he wants to be. He has to “dumb down” a little bit for the larger public: simplify the lyrics, reduce the layers of meaning in a video.

Boy’s brain is not always his friend, but it is why this fan loves him so much. Oh, and because he is gorgeous. And generous. Plus he can sing. Smile

I feel bad that after 2 months of Adam working & traveling so much singing BTIKM, that it didn’t connect with people.

luval, I don’t think he really expected it to. He said several times that it was for existing fans, really, and to be an introduction to his new album for other peeps.
I don’t think we need to feel bad about its lack of success. It pretty clearly wasn’t Top 40 material.

By the way, do y’all know that Pharrell Williams is from down here in Virginia Beach? Just wanted to throw that out there.

  8. milwlovesadam says:

Okay. So. Now I am home alone. I just listened with the volume turned up to 11.

    May I say? : “GAAAAHHH!!!”

There is so much buried in that song.

  9. Miss Chaos says:

Thanks cmw I know the beat is fast and everything, but I am not to sure on the words as Light side, something about as we grow old doesnt sound real light, maybe it fits in from the Light to Dark? I need to study the words more, wow this is getting deep!lol.

  10. eywflyer says:

That People thing sounds like the writer had an agenda to do a negative hit piece on Adam. Who knew that “now” means November 2009. Whatever – there are some people who are never going to like or even respect Adam. Too bad for them.

  11. Miss Chaos says:

Or maybe Adam could put a timeframe about which is the lightest and as it goes to darkest, or is that for us to figure out. BTIKM was supposed to be the middle ground, I thought, I dont know this is driving me crazy, and I do have a lot to do, but mulling over Adams order of songs!!!!!!

  12. luval says:

Since that People magazine thing has been out for a few days, I wonder if the hard core fans have jumped on it…letters, tweets, etc. I will look for it in the store but will not buy it. Will just get the info as to who & where to write.

Yes. you’re correct Kradamore. And love that “dumb down” a bit. Very true! Can you imagine listening to him at those radio promos…”yeah, like it has a good beat and yeah, like ya know I had fun singing”. Period. Next. LOL!

  13. milwlovesadam says:

I’m enjoying all these thoughtful posts. I totally agree, and we’ve all heard Adam talk about how he over-thinks and self-sabotages as a result. I love his braniac side. Well, all his sides to be exact. Ahem.

I appreciate that he doesn’t dumb things down like so many others do, but, easy to understand sells.

There’s this horrible movie I saw and that we talk about in my family, with my kids often. It’s called “Idiocracy.” It paints a bleak future based on a whole society living the result of media saturation and the dumbing down of everything. It was meant to be a comedy, but it is so realistic in it’s possibilities.

  14. milwlovesadam says:

So many of those writers are in the past. Heck, look at the picture posted with the Kimmel announcement. I think there just might be some more recent pics of Adam. Just a few. Maybe. Egads.

  15. adamized says:

How exciting is it to see listings under the upcoming shows. It is only going to get longer and longer and…. Thanks eywflyer for maintaining this lovely site.

If NCOE brings top 40 success for our boy I will be really happy for him. My favorite is still Cuckoo but as someone said we eventually are going to have the entire album to ruminate over and over and over.

Ron, so happy to hear things are on an upswing. Yeah for you and Gil.

  16. Calgary says:

    mils

Ahem, I would have loved to have seen Adam in spandex on Idol.

    ROFLOL!

  17. luval says:

I’m hoping the People mag doesn’t sell much. Generally these “extra” or “supplement” magazines are not big hits with the public.

btw…I wish it was Jimmy Fallon instead of Jimmy Kimmel. I think Fallon’s show is in NYC, though. I really really want SNL!

eta: Didn’t Adam wear spandex when he did the duet with Alison?

  18. Calgary says:

Okay I can see Ppl mag using old news and pix, but when he’s booked on a show, shouldn’t his publicist be sending out current photos????

  19. mieps says:

”yeah, like it has a good beat and yeah, like ya know I had fun singing”

    lol luval

  20. milwlovesadam says:

Umm. Okay. Those striped rock star pants may have had some spandex in them. But, they were nothing like the ones he wore with that codpiece, or in Japan, the ones that the DJ in Australia gave him.

  21. luval says:
  22. nkd says:

No spandex on Idol. Not on Adam.

This conversation today has me on an emotional roller coaster!

NCOE is catchy and well produced. I’m sure my opinion isn’t worth much cuz I like everything, not totally true, but I do love everything we’ve heard from Trespassing.

NCOE should be a lesson for us not to judge from a snippet.
I can’t wait for the album. I want it all, on a loop 24/7 for a while!

  23. milwlovesadam says:

    Oy Vay luval!

Can I admit that I’m glad he’s “over” that phase?

  24. milwlovesadam says:

Well, I’m off to catch up on Idol. Durbin, J Hud, and lots of drama. Hubby just tried to spoil it for me.

  25. nkd says:

I’m sure there was some spandex in those striped jeans or else there would have been no room for plenty!
But that’s not what I call spandex. I’m not sure where people have formed this image of Adam that they tend to hold on to.

Well, luval, that picture does form images!

  26. luval says:

I’m glad he’s over that too! Love current “architectural black glam stylish” Adam.

  27. riskylady says:

Hmmm, up to 8 or 9 months ago, Rolling Stone and MTV were completely ignoring Adam. Now, RS has something about him in almost every other issue, and MTV loves him ever since the EMAs.
Hubby and I were trying to figure out a timeline for the dissing in EW and People (they’re twins, ya’ll) and I think it began shortly after Michael Ausiello left the magazine and started TVLine, and Slezak followed him. They even managed to crop Adam out of Elton’s Oscar party pics. There is definitely an agenda there, who knows why. Even the review of NCOE is grudgingly half-assed.
It seems the online People version isn’t as up on it. But I think a Twitter campaign would be MAGNIFICENT. And, I plan to buy that piece of garbage about Idol, mark it up, and mail it to them with my cancellation letter.
Really, I go through that mag in 15 minutes lately, sooooo not worth it.

  28. AL says:

So many of those writers are in the past. Heck, look at the picture posted with the Kimmel announcement. I think there just might be some more recent pics of Adam. Just a few. Maybe. Egads.

It seems that Kimmel is now using a more recent photo. Maybe the other one was left over when Adam was to appear on the show in 2009.
    http://www.1iota.com/show/view/Jimmy_Kimmel_Live
Still tickets left so if anyone is thinking about going you better get them soon! Adam is on page 4 of the “Free Ticket Finder”.

  29. riskylady says:

Guys, I don’t think Adam needs to dumb down. He would lose his fan base of young professionals and intelligent adults (like us). He may not have a million tweens, although I think he does have many, but he has fans with deeper pockets than tweens. Who else could raise the amounts his fans have for charities at such speed? Sold out Pennyroyal what, 3 times?
And I don’t think all pop music is dumb either – Bruno’s songs don’t seem dumb, neither do Adele’s, and there are others. One of the things I love most about him is his BRAIN! Without that, for me, there is ZERO sex appeal.
As for the BTIKM video, well, even Carrie had to “explain” her knockoff good girl, bad girl (she is completely not believable as a bad girl LOL) video and album.

  30. Kradamour says:

This from Home Planet…and yup, that about nails it!

Now we sit back and enjoy 30 minutes of joyous flailing to be followed by weeks upon weeks of wanking and angsting and second guessing and bitching and….you get the drift.

    ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL

Looking forward to buying NCOE next week. Been a while since I had the oppy to open my wallet for Adam!
Still don’t get why it isn’t available for sale immediately. (Oh, right, because we want a lot of peeps to be frustrated and to download illegally because they can’t actually pay for it.)(WTF?)

Ron, so good to see your posts.

Errbody: in the immortal words of our master, “it ain’t that deep”.

    G’nite, peeps!
    Sweet NCOE dreams!

Wish you had mentioned it-I would have saved my money. If I had bought more at the grocery, I would have had time to look at the “important” parts to see if it was worth it.
    Wink

  32. turquoisewaters says:

NCOE is for me the best single Adam has released so far. Count me among those that love Adam and his voice to death, but could not get excited about a single one of his previously released singles. NCOE is very good, and so far the reception has been excellent. (I’ll wait patiently for Trespassing, Chokehold, Shady and who knows what else is lurking on that album.)

  33. eywflyer says:

Argghhh this is a loooong flight – we are over eastern Arizona now. Can’t wait to get to LAX and hit the In N Out burger!

  34. AL says:

Can’t wait to get to LAX…

A little off topic but if you have some free time in LA this weekend you might want to check out this arcade.
    http://youtu.be/faIFNkdq96U
The story made my heart smile (words borrowed from a post I read online) and I just had to share.

  35. TexasWannaHoldEm says:

AL, Caine and his arcade are just precious! How refreshing to see such creativity and ambition in this little boy, and his dad is so supportive and nurturing. See what kids can do when they aren’t glued to the TV or video games? Very sweet – thanks for sharing! eywflyer, if you visit the arcade, don’t forget to get the Fun Pass – it’s good for 500 games!

Amidst all of the excitement about NCOE, there were some great teases for Shady on twitter today…

First, as nkd told us earlier, Nile Rodgers tweeted that he had an interview with Rolling Stone about Adam’s album. And Adam tweeted back to him about how Shady is “sooooooo stanky.” So we know there’s an RS article about Adam coming up. Smile

Then today… this is from someone who works with Nile Rodgers:

Diego Paul Sánchez Diego Paul Sánchez ‏ @iammisterd
cant get @adamlambert & @nilerodgers “Shady” out of my head.. FUNK!

Diego Paul Sánchez Diego Paul Sánchez ‏ @iammisterd
@LambertUK let me say this. i dig adams music a lot.. im a fan.. but #SHADY… truly is a whole other level of BADASSNESS..

    Diego Paul Sánchez ‏ @iammisterd
    @deedeeglambert @pussinglitter @adamlambert #shady is EXTREMELY awesome

And this is from someone else who was in the studio at the time and took that famous “teaser” video:

    Jean Morisson ‏ @JeanMorisson
    my review of @adamlambert @sam_sparro and @nilerodgers #SHADY is.. Funk-a-licious. SOOO good..

    Jean Morisson ‏ @JeanMorisson
@deedeeglambert @talcvids pretty sure it wasnt leaked.. theres a LOT of special care going in to it being an amazing surprise for everyone!

And regarding her in-studio videos of Nile and Adam and whether we might be able to see them after May 15:

    Jean Morisson ‏ @JeanMorisson
@lilybop2010 i sent the original vids from my cam over to the AL camp.. keep an eye out!

    Jean Morisson ‏ @JeanMorisson

Adam’s stank face about Shady: http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj45/mindchnger/Gifs/mix965.gif

OMG, I seriously cannot wait to hear this song!

  37. cwm says:

Interesting article in the NY Times about how Billboard is going to start counting streaming services in addition to radio play and sales when they calculate how a song is doing. Which is a good thing, and it’s about time.

  43. luval says:

Thanks for that ms0712. Hated it the first time I heard it but really liked it today!

ok…maybe not dumb down but simpler. If it takes simpler for the masses to like Adam, I’m all for it.

  44. little dutchess says:

ok…maybe not dumb down but simpler. If it takes simpler for the masses to like Adam, I’m all for it.

definitely NOT dumb down. His depth, intelligence and articulation are such a part of his appeal to me. But simpler for the masses…YES!!

  45. luval says:

Have been meaning to ask this…What ever happened to Madonna’s album? Has it been released? Wasn’t it touted as the next “coming”? LOL I was always worried that Adam had to compete with this.

  46. little dutchess says:

    Attention Moscow Concert Attendees!!

    A Change in the Date????

@glamstarky Dear Glamberts! we have some news about Queen+ Adam show in Moscow. It MOVED to 3 of July. You dont have to change your concert tix

From AQD- has anyone seen this?

As I’ve said before:”It’s hard sometimes to be an Adam Fan”, especially if you want to SEE/HEAR him in person or in concert. The Duke and I are “retired” but work part time and are big travelers–but no really BIG plans for a couple of years now (St, Agathe and Montreal were big but not extensive as some travels). SO,we booked Sonisphere and air travel and hotels and a cruise starting in the UK .Then the Russia concert came along and since we’ve never been there started thinking how to integerate that. Then the cancel in London and the reschedule with very different dates and now Russia date change… now nearly impossible to put together with all the new dates infringing on other travel plans. I’m not looking for sympathy just venting like others whose travel arrangements went awry. I may just be home watching youtubes on the computer. Not so bad but hoping for Adam AND an interesting vacation. end of vent. thank you

  47. luval says:

Awww Little Dutchess. I’ll bet it makes you want to throw your hands up in the air and say “forget about it”! I’ll bet poor Adam is somewhat embarrassed too since it’s not his doing. I’m sure he knows the situation about people’s travel plans and can’t do a thing about it!

  48. glambotgram says:

little duchess I am sending hugs your way, I would be venting too! Hug Right Hug Left

  49. glambotgram says:

luval looks like MDNA hit #1 on the Billboard Top 200 but is dropping fast. Also #1 on Dance/electronic, UK, Canada and Digital.

“This week, Madonna’s MDNA earns the distinction of the largest second-week percentage sales drop for a No. 1-debuting album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. The album slides from No. 1 to No. 8 on the Billboard 200 with a 86.7% sales decline (falling from 359,000 to 48,000 according to SoundScan).”

    Blockquote failure on second part.

  50. luval says:

Thanks, glambotgram. Hope it’s just Madonna & not the state of the music industry. In this new musical world people move on very very quickly to the next “thing”. (New Direction anyone?)
