Adam has apparently wrapped up his US radio promo tour, at least for the moment, as April begins. Above we see Adam as he spent the last several weeks – hard at work with promo. This is (hopefully) finally the last month – for real – before Adam’s new “Trespassing” album will be released. The album is scheduled to drop on May 15. Will we get a second single ahead of the album release date? Will Adam perform on American Idol sometime in the next several weeks? We’ll know soon – in the meantime enjoy the chat!

Miss Chaos: I sure hope Trespassing will be next, it being the title track of the album and such a statement song, how could they not release it???

  2. turquoisewaters says:

I never get these things: why do they wait until 4/17 to release on itunes when it’s already on youtube? isn’t the cat out of the bag? or do they wait until it goes to radio? Maybe I’m just impatient.

    Miss Chaos says:

See they were going to go with Trespassing, till someone stepped in and changed it NCOE, well whatever!

I had my say about this issue a couple of weeks ago. I really do not like NCOE, it is not half the song that Trespassing and Cuckoo are. Cuckoo is my favorite. I don’t really believe that radio had anything to do with this selection I think it is just RCA, AGAIN not trusting in Adam and his vision. It doesn’t bother me that people don’t always write their songs, I know many don’t. But Adam did write most of the songs for this album and they were supposed to fit together in a certain way and I don’t see this one as fitting the light/dark concept at all.

I am not on Planet Fierce with the rest of you, very disappointed actually. I really feel bad for him and think this was not what he wanted at all. Just more crap he has to swallow. I hope for his sake that this is a real hit, but I will be waiting and praying that there will be a next one that I will love.

Ok I said I would shut up about this before and I really will this time.

Glambotgram & Miss Chaos…I respect your views very much.

This has to be a hit. No question.

Kradamour good luck to your mother with her surgery. Hope all goes well.

Shoshana Stone’s UK press release about NCOE:

    http://outside-org.co.uk/2012/04/adam-lambert-announces-his-brand-new-single-%E2%80%98never-close-our-eyes%E2%80%99-june-24th/

That pic that nkd and Miss Chaos are wondering could have been the potential Trespassing single cover appears to actually be associated with the album, not a potential single. I think it might be the album cover for another country (Poland? http://twitpic.com/98unvz) or for the standard version (https://twitter.com/#!/marysygiel/status/190428630025908225)? Here’s the official Sony press release for NCOE, which lists the album tracklist at the bottom and shows the same picture.

He sounds absolutely gorgeous in NCOE – irresistible, actually. Like Trespassing, but not nutso over it – the “get a load of me” part is just OK for me. Love Cuckoo, but not for radio, IMO. Naked Love is my “jam” – find that even more irresistible. Would’ve liked that, maybe, for the second single, but, for obvious reasons, won’t fly right now. Adam apparently is happy with what’s going on – that’s all that’s important to me. And such good stuff coming down the pike – exciting.

  10. TexasWannaHoldEm says:

glambotgram, I’m so sorry that you’re disappointed. I imagine that you are absolutely right, especially this:

… I think it is just RCA, AGAIN not trusting in Adam and his vision.

It may not be a lack of trust, but more that NCOE is more radio-friendly. Adam may very well be disappointed, but if I know Adam (which I don’t, but I act like I do!), he won’t be disappointed for long. His label has shown a tremendous amount of support so far, and from the way his schedule is shaping up over the next few months, they will continue to do so. I think many of us agree that WWFM wasn’t one of our faves from FYE, but look at the mileage he got out of that song, ending with a Grammy nomination! If NCOE can do that for him and his career, I’ll be beyond thrilled. I hope that you can enjoy the adventure and, if it’s successful enough to warrant a third single, you’ll be thrilled with that one!

  11. glambotgram says:

Adam may very well be disappointed, but if I know Adam (which I don’t, but I act like I do Smile ), he won’t be disappointed for long.

OH I agree with this, he will put his best face forward for the good of the album. And really there is not a better face out there Wink

    Excerpt from Jordan Meehan

…”Never Close Our Eyes” appears to be the next single off the highly anticipated album “Trespassing” and it’s a HOT track. I wasn’t allowed to talk about this one after we heard the album a few months ago and keeping my mouth shut about it has been difficult (but I did, because I’m afraid of Adam’s publicist Shoshanna)! “Never Close Our Eyes” is without a doubt one of my favorite tracks from the new album and it has “summer anthem” written ALL over it! This song perfectly showcases Adam’s powerhouse vocals and has a beat that will drag you out onto the dance floor and keep you there all night.

  16. cwm says:

Ooooh, I really like this review, from arjanwrites, the Grammy blogger/reviewer:

    http://www.arjanwrites.com/arjanwrites/2012/04/listen-to-adam-lambert-never-close-our-eyes-single-review.html

    Excerpt:

“Never Close Our Eyes” masterfully combines Lambert’s powerhouse vocals with Mars’ knack for writing catchy pop melodies and Dr Luke’s crisp production effort. Mixed to perfection and produced to a tee, the track is a flaming pop romp that will surely rule top forty radio all summer long. What’s particularly compelling about this new single is that Dr Luke’s energetic production stylings don’t compete with the strength of Lambert’s performance.

In fact, Lambert’s rock vocals add a gritty dimension to Luke’s glossy soundboard work that fit the song’s narrative perfectly.”

    Smile

  17. cwm says:

EW always seems to be a step behind. They semi-review the song based on the acoustic version. They don’t seem to have gotten wind of the studio version yet. Still pretty favorable. (Just be wary reading the comments because it is, you know, EW, whose comments sections are usually horrid.)

Wow! Went away for a few hours and WHAM beaucoup posts and thoughts…

Ron, thank you for your sweet posts! I am so glad to know that your partner is on the mend, that you are on the mend, and that life is good all round in sunny Toronto! Agree with post above that this is the sort of thing that adds mortar to an already strong relationship. We are having some repointing done on the bricks on our home…sort of like that, I think.

Re the sigh…it is just that, Ron, a sigh. Little bit sad, but mostly just “whatever”. (waves things away) My friend and I would have loved to go, but the finances really don’t work for either one of us for what would be a trip sans husbands. Hard to justify “Bye, see you in a week or so, we’re off to London and Paris!”.

Re NCOE: I do like it. I don’t love it, but I like it better than WWFM. It does showcase Adam’s vocals (unlike FYE). It’s safe, and if it puts Adam in the forefront of pop radio, then it has done its job and I am glad for it.

MissChaos, your post perfectly expressed my thoughts re the choice of this single. Thank you for your thoughts and what I suspect is dead-on analysis of what happened.

Having said that, Adam is going to pimp the song, MAKE it his own even though it didn’t start out that way, and buy the right to put out whatever the f*ck he wants to next time.
And he knows we are here waiting for him to do just that.

Hi all – did you see the quote from MSN in the UK release? We’ve not had as good a feeling about an ALBUM since we heard an advance copy of 21 by Adele!!!! High praise indeed! And for the entire album, not one or two songs! So those of you that don’t like NCOE, be happy if it does what it should and gets people interested in the album! How many of Adele’s songs from 21 have been released as singles? Hopefully all of our favorites will be released as singles over time and, if so, does it really matter what the order is that they are released? Hopefully this is Adam’s take on this whole thing!

  23. Miss Chaos says:

Well everyone seems to be on NCOE page, so Im good with that!
Now to sit back and watch it fly to No 1 (Well Ryan Seacrest said so) and the radio playing it, that will make me happy. I dont even care if they make a video of it or not. Make a video of Trespassing, now that would awsome.
Kinda hard to make a video of Never Close your Eyes, is he just gonna stand there with his eyes Open, and not closing them while singing?? lol

    Speaking of videos…
Although many of us truly enjoyed the video for BTIKM, it had to be relatively inexpensive to produce. After all, Adam was the only “actor” singing/performing throughout. My hopes for this next video are that there will be a number of dancers included.
I have to admit that I do love the dancing element that is generally a part of Lady Gaga’s vids. I still feel that the BTIKM video was way too deep for the mainstream video watchers.

  27. ultimathule says:

I want music, dancing, fun, sex, and beautiful people in the next vid. And there’re a lot of great scenarios that could be conjured up – working on some now – lol.

  28. milwlovesadam says:

My favorite Adam video was FYE. Loved the glossy production, the dancers, the edgy feel of it. IIHY was just campy fun, WWYFM was so angsty, but great, truth be told, I hope NCOE has that glossy edgy production again from FYE. I hate to say it, but, Kesha makes the type of videos I think Adam should.

Whatever, he needs to film it now. And get it out there.

What’s next? Kimmel, radio, what? Can anybody post the new calendar?

At MIA airport heading to LA for the weekend, just had first listen to NCOE. Had avoided all snippets & acoustic versions up til now. Absolutely love the song – actually the first of Adams singles that I’ve loved right away. I think it will do very well (top 10) on pop radio, and will probably go to #1 on club tracks as it is very remix friendly. Club play means favorable buzz in the demographic that drives pop radio.

Very pleased with this choice – cant wait to see the video and the Idol performance!

  33. luval says:

ok …so I’m mowing my lawn (yuck)…sun is shining, breeze is blowing and what song is in my head? LOL Ventura Highway by America! NCOE IMO has the same vibe. Driving down the highway, wind blowing through your hair, music BLASTING from the speakers…wish this night would never be over. Plenty of time to sleep when we die.

To me this song has a California feel to it. Kind of like Teenage Dream by Katy Perry which I loved.

Anyway am inside now and back to earth!

Yay, so happy eywflyer likes it! There are certain peeps who like whatever Mr. Wonderful does, whether it’s magnificent or not ( Blush , couldn’t possibly be describing myself!), but there are others who call it like they see it, so when they “like” it, that means sooooo much!

I am so excited for the Idol performance! Wonder what smokey/lasery special effects he’s mulling over in that beautiful head of his … I’m so happy with this news today – can’t seem to stop smiling! Grin

  36. Calgary says:

I like NCOE; he’s always said he wanted to be a pop star, and he is a singer first and foremost. If this single takes him to the top, hurray! I feel with a lot of the other songs off the new album that they just miss being top 10 by a hair’s breadth. Don’t throw rotten tomatoes at me, it’s JMO, but I feel that Adam may overthink his songs too much for top 40 radio. I hope I’m wrong! If NCOE gets him a hit and places him in the pop/rock firmament, he’s where he wanted to be. Once he’s got a solid base people will hopefully stop bringing up AI, and he will gain even deeper respect. And then folks may be more open to his own music. Better to build a loyal following slowly than be a one-hit wonder!

While we are rejoicing over all of the Adam news, those who are not searching the internet for it are getting this instead:

    http://community.americanidol.com/t5/Idol-Rumors-and-Gossip/People-magazine-commemorative-issue-American-Idol-Where-Are-They/td-p/13918148

I only started watching in season 8 so I was interested in reading about the previous years and bought it at the supermarket checkout. The first thing I noticed was that Adam was not important enough to be on the front or back cover.

He was listed in the front in a section called the Idol Rich, right after Kellie Pickler. Each one in that section got a two-page spread and his had the picture of him putting on heavy eyeliner while looking at his mirror image on the opposite side of the spread. This is the “update”–

“His post-Idol career has combined concerts and controversy. Viewers protested loudly when Lambert, during the 2009 American Music Awards, seemed to simulate oral sex with a band member. He told Ellen Degeneres that he “maybe went a little bit too far.” but Lambert made no apology for who he is. “I am flamboyant,” he said. “I am gay. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”

On the intro to the Season 8 group: “Acoustic guitar-strumming Kris Allen took the top prize, edging out flamboyant Adam Glambert–er, wait, that’s Lambert!–who combined Bette Midler-like understatement with a touch of Freddie Mercury’s reserve. Faced with a tough choice, America picked flannel over Spandex.”

Then on the last page, By the Numbers, he’s the first picture–where he’s going in for “the kiss” from the AMA’s. They don’t even have the guts to print the actual kiss, and they say that 1,500 was the approximate “number of complaints received by ABC after Adam Lambert’s performance at the 2009 American Music Awards.”

No mention of performing with Queen at the EMAs or anything else positive. And I’m wondering how I missed the Spandex on Idol. He’s still got a long way to go to get into mainstream American consciousness.

  41. little dutchess says:

I feel that Adam may overthink his songs too much for top 40 radio.

I have been feeling this same sentiment for a while too, Calgary. That’s why he feels he has to explain the 2 sides to the album–the light and the dark, same with the video. Even when he “conceived” the Glam Nation tour he had to have a “story” of sorts to take him from beginning to end and because of that he was almost required to have that “dialogue” we all thought was a bit stilted. (We all know how well Adam can talk about anything “off the cuff”) He’s a very “deep” person and very intelligent. But just listen to this pop music stuff; it’s just simple…sometimes the same thing over and over and over. But Adam has themes and songs that have meaning and he’s really thought it through and in case we might not get it-he explains it. Trespassing, for example, tells a story for which Adam has filled in the gaps, even going so far as telling us how he and Pharell came up with the idea.. that he told Pharell he still felt like an outsider in this pop music biz. I LOVE his depth (as we probably all do) but pop music “ain’t that deep” or so it seems.

ETA: And I’m loving NCOE! As much as I do the ones Adam put his heart and soul into writing!

  42. luval says:

I feel bad that after 2 months of Adam working & traveling so much singing BTIKM, that it didn’t connect with people.

eta: Ellessay…that magazine saddens me. Am going to write a letter to the editor to set things straight.

  43. cwm says:

Miss Chaos – I appreciate your thoughtful post on your thoughts and feelings about NCOE and it’s place in the album creation process. I can totally see where you’re coming from.

One thing you mentioned, though, that I didn’t understand so well, was that you said you don’t see how NCOE fits with the light and dark concept of the album. To me, NCOE fits perfectly with the light side – it’s all about grabbing life and living it to the fullest with someone you love. As the MTV reviewer said, it’s about Adam “staying awake 24/7 to enjoy the hell out of his life.” I love that message. And I do think it fits with his life story generally, but especially now that he has Sauli in his life.

If you see it differently, that’s cool, I just wanted to put this perspective out there for consideration. Smile

mieps, I think it’s all about whoever writes those things. If the writer was a fan of plaid shirts and WGWG’s, then that’s what you get.
