It’s time for our September chat thread. Hopefully this will be the final relatively quiet month before Adam’s new single is released. As always, please keep the posting guidelines in mind, and welcome any newcomers. Enjoy!

Okay cgesq…this fan (I’ll call her Kradamour) has something of a headache following the story! but it has a happy ending so it’s all good LOL

It is interesting, isn’t it, how much we DO have in common! I was so afraid that with so many of us in Ste Agathe, we would either (a) not like each other very much, or (b) not have anything in common except fangirling/fanboying, and that could have gotten old, or (c) had our differences overwhelm the fairly fragile thread of Adam togetherness. But (as everyone can see from the threads) we were a very happy band, indeed, and so many have even posted that we miss each other. It was such a joy for me to meet up with adamized again last week in Baltimore!
So what does this mean? (shakes head) Dunno. But for whatever reason, Adam has formed the nucleus of wonderful friendships that I hope will continue for a very long time to come.

I wonder if other fan communities have a similar experience? I’ve never been a serious fan of anyone before.

nekkid, I know you are chatting on the phone and may not be back for hours Rolls Eyes, but wanted to wish you one last birthday greeting before I wander off to bed – so glad we could be a part of your day!
    Mwah!

  4. JOJOSIE says:

Did any of you watch the preview and first episode of Husbands tonight. Cheeks is one of the writers and also one of the leads. It really looks to be a good show and very humorous. Ithink it’s on again Thursday and you might want to give it a look. I’ll try to find out the time and post it.They are going to sell at some time the whole show on I-tunes and maybe a dvd. I’m sure they’d like evenually to have it go on tv. Would mainstream America accept a show about gay marriage?

  5. asifclueless says:

BB is always #2; but for me he’s always on top. Smile

    The best hairstyle

    2. Adam Lambert

In second place (although first place out of the fellas) we had Adam Lambert – it doesn’t matter how he has his hair, upwards/downwards, longer/shorter, he always looks great!

This is so true, Kradamour and cgesq. I think this is one of the many reasons that we feel very comfortable here. We seem to be able to relate to each other even on issues that may seem a bit off topic. It is so great to hear that those of you who were fortunate enough to be able to attend the concert in Sainte Agathe found similarities among yourselves other than your love for Adam.
After all, everyone is the same age — 29. Oops, except for nkd — forgot that she is now 30!! Wink

Kradamour, this is a first for me too as I’ve never been a serious fan of anyone before either so I agree that it would be interesting to know if other communities come close to being as special as this one. I can’t imagine that they are. Smile

  8. nkd says:

Thank you cgesq for the birthday wishes. I hope I didn’t miss anyone. It really does mean so much.

  24. floridagirl says:

“Yes kids, stage presence is EVERYTHING”

OMG I cracked up when I saw that! It reminded me of the interview that Adam did prior to the tour where he said that his show was “family friendly”!!! Well I never was offended so to me he was correct. LOL

And this other fashion TV show now coming up in the fall too! I need to see if I get this channel. Hope so. I wonder if this is due to the new management company? Anyway, Adam on my tv is always a happy time.

  25. nkd says:

It looks like there are a few things to keep us occupied while we wait for music!
    Project Runway on Lifetime
Majors & Minors on The Hub
All on the Line on Sundance Channel

  26. milwlovesadam says:

    What’s an eggbert?

Yay! More opps for Adam to fill up my DVR!!

Personal goal: 100 hours of “storage” on DVR. All Adam.

  27. luval says:

Yeah, I get the Sundance Channel! Admire your goal, mils.

  28. eywflyer says:

Northern Spirit & Kradamour, the reason I’m concerned about the passage of time in Idol terms is that the law of diminishing returns has proven pretty hard to break for past Idols, and I’m not convinced at this point that Adam has built his fanbase sufficiently to avoid that fate. Really only Kelly and Carrie have broken out of the Idol mold (one could make an argument for Daughtry – his second album went platinum but sold only about 25% of his first album).

I know you will all be shocked to see some stats now Smile These are album sales numbers from Wikipedia for the AI alumni ahead of Adam in all-time total album sales (Adam is currently 12th on that list):

    Carrie Underwood
    1st album: 7.13 million
2nd album: 3.20 million (45% of first album)
3rd album: 2.04 million (64% of second album)

    Kelly Clarkson
    1st album: 2.75 million
2nd album: 6.16 million (224% of first album)
    3rd album: 815,000 (13% of second album)
    4th album: 913,000 (112% of third album)

    Chris Daughtry
    1st album: 4.81 million
2nd album: 1.29 million (27% of first album)

    Clay Aiken
    1st album: 2.79 million
2nd album: 1.42 million (51% of first album)
    3rd album: 531,000 (38% of second album)
    4th album: 165,000 (31% of third album)
    5th album: 63,000 (38% of fourth album)

    Fantasia Barrino
    1st album: 1.82 million
    2nd album: 530,000 (29% of first album)
    3rd album: 458,000 (86% of second album)

    Ruben Studdard
    1st album: 1.79 million
    2nd album: 483,000 (27% of first album)
    3rd album: 238,000 (49% of second album)
    4th album: 50,000 (21% of third album)

David Cook (2nd album released 6/28/11)
    1st album: 1.33 million
    2nd album: 89,000 (7% of first album)

    Kellie Pickler
    1st album: 877,000
    2nd album: 449,000 (52% of first album)

    Jennifer Hudson
    1st album: 839,000
    2nd album: 396,000 (47% of first album)

    Jordin Sparks
    1st album: 1.05 million
    2nd album: 177,000 (17% of first album)

    David Archuleta
    1st album: 765,000
    2nd album: 246,000 (32% of first album)
    3rd album: 67,000 (27% of second album)

As we can see, Kelly is the only Idol alum who has ever released an album that sold more than their previous album did. Carrie and Daughtry are the only ones whose most recent album went platinum (Kelly’s 4th album will likely go platinum as well from back catalog sales boost after her 5th album is released in October). For everyone else on that list, second album sales of 20-50% of the first album’s are typical, with David Cook’s recent album doing very poorly at only 7%. 50% of Adam’s FYE numbers would leave the album not reaching gold status, with first week sales likely under 100K (especially if the release date is Jan/Feb).

Unfortunately, the record business is just that, a business. They only care about sales numbers and profits. If Adam’s second album does drop 50% from his first one, it would be difficult for him to maintain such a high profile going forward, as promo opportunities would likely begin to dry up. Also the record label would not be as inclined to spend heavily on promo, or to front money for another extensive tour.

My feeling for a while now has been that Adam would need every possible advantage he could get to break out of this Idol mold. Further delaying the second album release to a dead sales time in the middle of winter is not advantageous to him.

I’d love to be proven wrong if the first single is a monster hit and the album sales numbers are huge, but history is not particularly encouraging. We’ll find out soon enough.

My mother always told me to do everything I can to fulfill my goals.

Thanks mom. But you had no idea what this goal amounts to.

Hey, Home Planet is hilarious today. Major salute with my avatar included.

  31. milwlovesadam says:

    Thanks for the stats.

I’m still hoping that by releasing singles ahead of the CD, like Gaga and Katy did, that he’ll have a hit CD.

And, with the 2nd, more FYE will also sell, and boost that closer to platinum.

  32. Kradamour says:

    Wow, eywflyer.
Those are some very sobering statistics.
I can’t speculate further, because I don’t watch Idol. Now I would really love to know the percentage of concert attendees who are also not Idol-watchers.
What we need now is a single. STAT.

  33. eywflyer says:

Those are some very sobering statistics.

Kradamour, they are sobering indeed. Looking a bit further down the sales chart at the folks just behind Adam, it gets really ugly:

    Josh Gracin
    1st album: 703,000
    2nd album: 86,000 (12% of first album)

    Taylor Hicks
    1st album: 705,000
    2nd album: 52,000 (7% of first album)

    Bo Bice
    1st album: 673,000
    2nd album: 62,000 (9% of first album)
    3rd album: 11,000 (18% of second album)

    Elliot Yamin
    1st album: 527,000
    2nd album: 81,000 (15% of first album)
    3rd album: 27,000 (33% of second album)
    4th album: 49,000 (181% of third album)

Well, finally someone other than Kelly who had an album that sold more than their previous album did. Numbers are so small though as to be insignificant.

  35. luval says:

thanks for that stats, eywflyer. I just love that stuff. My feeling is that if Adam does have a great single his 2nd album will outsell the first. I never felt the first album really did that great. Especially after the AMA fiasco and Susan Boyle-mania. I always thought FYE would sell a million very quickly but the AMA thing did it and Adam in with many many people. I mean there were a bazillion people voting for him. They said “not for me” after the AMA’s. Gosh I’m still sick thinking of the mess after that (and Ellen kept bringing it up!!).
So yes…monster hit…please please please for the single!!!!

eta: The music out there right now is horrible. I can’t even listen in my car anymore. Adam just HAS to be the saviour!

  36. milwlovesadam says:

    Eggbert. Pretty funny.

Pretty funny. I always liked my eggplant in ratatouille.

Now, I guess I like it to sing.

eta: The music out there right now is horrible. I can’t even listen in my car anymore. Adam just HAS to be the saviour!

I agree with you luval, the music out is horrible. Speaking of horrible…I had a thought yesterday, while I was driving home from work (and listening to Adam, GNT Live), what if Adam is just too good?!? I mean, is it possible that he is just too talented to make it in the mainstream “pop” music world? It’s a sad sad day when you can be too good of a singer to succeed in/on radio. Frown

  39. asifclueless says:

    eywflyer ..thanks for the stats.

    Now, I’m nervous again.
OK.. grab some green thingie .. bong .. er …stuff,
meditate in a lotus position …

Ohmm…Adam is smart, talented, has great voice, great showman, sexy. He’ll be OK.
    He’ll make a kickassgasm album#2, and get a platinum.

..grab more green stuff to calm me down.

Ohmm … Adam, I’ll wait patiently for your new kickass album whenever it comes out. I PROMISS.

    ..grab more green stuff.

Dang!! I can’t spell this green stuff’s name …broccolli .. or something like that.

    Chill!!! I’m cool now.

  40. Kradamour says:

what if Adam is just too good?!? I mean, is it possible that he is just too talented to make it in the mainstream “pop” music world? It’s a sad sad day when you can be too good of a singer to succeed in/on radio.

k-in-cal, I was thinking the exact same thing the other day, when I was listening to the radio. Which successful popstars actually have a voice? When we count on Adam’s amazing voice to make his career, are we being too naive? Let’s take a look at the megastars: Katy Perry can’t sing. Britney can but doesn’t, she is way produced. Keisha can’t sing. Bruno Mars can sing, but also writes very, very cool songs that really resonate with peeps across all ethnic/sociopolitical barriers. Adele can sing but I don’t see her repeating the success of Rolling in the Deep, what is selling it is that it is unique in its sound and taps into a lot of genres…I bought the album for that son and was disappointed in most of the rest, it is pretty much all of a piece.
But you get my point; musical talent seems to matter not at all. In the past, this was not the case, and I don’t know when it changed. But look back at the stars of past periods: Cher, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, Carole King, Queen, the Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens…disco queens of the late 70s could sing…Flock of Seagulls, the Cars, Fleetwood Mac, INXS, Robert Palmer.. I’m just randomly listing singers/musicians. They all had intrinsic singing talent, whether or not I personally liked it.
Now? I couldn’t tell you how modern “stars” became rich and famous without a voice or talent except for self-promotion…and the exceptions came out of the fairly recent past, but still the past: Pink, CeeLo Green, etc.; they predate the Katy Perrys and Keishas of the world.
I don’t think Adam’s voice is an impediment, but I don’t think we can count too much on it, either, for megastardom.

(asif, that was priceless! LOL )

  41. nkd says:

    Oh asif! LMAO

I know that Adam has a lot good going in his life now, but wouldn’t you think it’s about time for some of that good karma to pay off big for him? He is major talented, charismatic, and such a good kind loyal person. It’s time for him to get the acknowledgement and rewards.

  42. k_in_cal says:

I totes agree Kradamour and nekkid!

  43. dcglam says:

I don’t think Adam’s voice is an impediment, but I don’t think we can count too much on it, either, for megastardom.

Thank goodness he has so much else going for him!

Yes, Adam’s versatile vocal abilities are like none other. He has also been blessed with many fine “other” attributes that will help to promote him in the music industry, maybe even more so than the voice. Number one is that he is strikingly handsome with a huge sex appeal. His charismatic presence (showmanship) along with his fearlessness and daringness add to the mix. Then, of course, there is the fact that he is so articulate and interviews extremely well. In my opinion, I feel that all of these attributes (I’m sure there are more) combine to equal Adam’s total selling package to the public.

  44. luval says:

I love seeing Adam on the small screen in whatever he chooses to do, but after seeing him in Ste. Agathe I HAVE to hear that voice and see that beautiful man in person. It touched my soul.

  45. eywflyer says:

9/14/10 – the Glam Nation Tour plays Symphony Hall in Atlanta GA:

    http://www.adamlambertlive.org/2011/gnt-atlanta-ga-91410

This was one of the best audiences (up there with Concord NH IIRC) for achieving almost total silence during the end of Soaked.

  46. luval says:

haha eywflyer…my little notes had the exact same thing about Symphony hall…silence during Soaked. Also, Tommy wore a black boa. Smile

  47. Northern Spirit says:

Thanks, eywflyer, for the stats. Sobering indeed. I’m just hoping that Adam’s talent is recognized for what it is and he won’t become another statistic…and we know he won’t. Plus Adam is getting himself out there, making TV appearances (Majors and Minors, Project Runway), so he’s going to make himself visible and show another side to himself that won’t normally be seen if people discover him just from his music on the radio.

Perhaps I’m alone on this, but I’ve gotten back into pop music after giving it the shoulder for many many years. I’ve explored celtic, new age, jazz, world fusion, which I still love, amongst other genres. I actually like what I hear on the radio now, even though not many of the artists can really sing.

  48. ultimathule says:

With these fashion gigs, Adam may be setting himself up for more than just singing in the future. He’s a businessman, and with album sales plummeting, more than one source of income would be invaluable.

  49. dcglam says:

Yes, utimathule! Adam is very smart…… Wink

  50. ultimathule says:

But the thought of never being able to see him in concert again is devastating.
