As October begins, Adam has just announced the official radio add date (October 8) for Trespassing, which is the title track and the third U.S. single from his album of the same name. A Trespassing EP with a radio edit and album remixes will also be available on October 16. After limited success for the first two singles from Trespassing, Adam likely needs this third single to be a hit in order to continue onward with the Trespassing era, at least here in the United States.
After an October 13th concert date in Australia, Adam will return to the U.S. for a pair of dates during the second half of the month, on October 17th at the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix, and on October 29th at the Texas Tango radio concert in Grand Prarie. Yes, rs, I had a straight line of sight to Adam’s seat, so I could see the back of his head for the whole flight. And yes, I did
stare atkeep an eye on it.From what I could tell from the way he was holding his head up and moving it around occasionally, he did not appear to be sleeping.
By the way, I had an exchange on twitter with two fans who were on the same flight as Adam on the way TO Phoenix from Burbank. Remember that Adam said in the Phoenix TV interview that he got delayed in security in Burbank and he missed his original flight? Well, he ended up on their Southwest flight to Phoenix, which is all coach and you pick your seat. He was the last one to board the plane, and asked one fan about sitting in the seat next to her. She indicated that she was a fan (showed him her phone case LOL) and he politely said something like “oh sorry, maybe not.” She took it well, understanding that he didn’t feel like sitting next to a potentially cray inquisitive fan when he was irritated about missing his flight and being delayed getting to Phoenix. So he picked a different seat, which was in the same row, across the aisle, from another fan! – who stared at him the whole flight, of course. LOL
Apparently, he slouched down in his seat, leaned his head on his hand, and watched a movie for a good part of the flight. For that flight, he was dressed in the same clothes that he appeared in in the TV interview, and was not wearing a hat or sunglasses – so was not “disguised.”

The funny thing is, that we were so close to the stage, that I wasn’t ever really looking up at the jumbotron because there was no need to. So when Adam lay down on the stage and sang directly into the camera, I thought it was cute but I couldn’t see him very well anymore, but I thought – how cool is that for whoever is going to see that film! And then it dawned on me – the jumbotron!! So I looked up, and there he was – in all his overwhelming glory! LOL It was a great moment.
Ok, one more story and then I have to go to bed…
So, most of you know I was visiting my parents in the LA area this past weekend (hence my flight to Burbank with Adam). When I originally told my parents why I was going to be in Phoenix before I came to visit them, they wondered aloud who this Adam Lambert was and why I was such a “groupie.” So by the time I arrived, my dad had googled him and found Adam’s wikipedia page and “some photos.” I don’t know what photos he saw, but he did say something vague about Adam’s androgyny. LOL
I know that my parents really appreciate jazz and good singers, so while visiting, I decided that I needed to give them a brief tutorial on Adam so that they could see what the “fuss” was about. I had them listen to Come to Me Bend to Me, Mad World (studio version), Soaked from Acoustic Live, and goatie‘s youtube of OOL from Phoenix. I emphasized that these were just some of his ballads that I thought they would like and that showed off his voice, and that he had a wide repertoire of styles. And since I wasn’t sure what images my dad had found, I showed them this picture as a great representation of what Adam looks like now:

They agreed that Adam has a very good voice and is very handsome.
But my dad says, “Well he sings well and all, but I’d much rather look at a pretty woman while she’s singing to me, rather than a handsome man.” Hahaha! This from my 92-year-old father! Never change, Dad!
And, when I mentioned that some folks consider Adam “another Elvis,” my 86-year-old mom pipes up with, “well but he doesn’t really have that sexy thing going on that Elvis did.” I said, “Oh mom, don’t worry, he’s definitely got the sexy thing going on!” I don’t know – should I have shown them the video of Pop That Lock from Phoenix instead?? LMAO

My 93 (almost) yr old father knows about Adam and agrees that “Come to me, Bend to me” is beautiful, but the first time he heard him on my car radio, he was sure it was a woman singing.

Exciting news all those new concerts in Japan, and that luxury one in Bali! I really really wish that after Japan would come European tour… Why is Adam the most popular in most distant places? No wonder he insured his voice.
Talking about The Voice, I remember seeing a chapter where someone sang WWFM (pretty well, especially compared to that horrible video linked here) and Adam Levine thanked the performer that he sang it much better than the original singer. He said it in not very polite way, I thought what an a*****e. Does that represent the way some other pop stars think about Adam
? Can’t they credit him because he comes from a talent show? Levine probably has never heard our Adam live…
Ladynorth, I remember that Adam Levine got deluged by Glamberts and Voice fans because of his claim of not being familiar with WWFM. It was a topic of a thread at MJ’s, and was discussed a lot here too.
He didn’t really diss our guy, I think, just claimed he didn’t know the song. Lots of judgement about a judge who should know pop music.
And that was before Jlo showed her ignorance of classic rock on Idol and was beaten up for it. I was, myself, guilty of that on MJ’s. I remain flabbergasted that the judges can be ignorant of the music they are judging. I think that the judges should at the very least, be given the original so that they can form an opinion. And then, for a judge to actually say on national TV that they aren’t familiar with the songs being performed is unbelievable to me.
But, I do love that CeeLo picked WWFM. I have a feeling he has lots of respect for Adam. Maybe he’s even heard Adam sing his song, Crazy. I hope so, because nobody does it better.
cwm, thanks for all the stuff today. Your airplane stories are very insightful. I think a lot of us have wondered about an airport encounter, and how we would behave. It would be beyond a fantasy come true to be seated next to him. But, alas, not for him. I think your description of him slouching down and quietly watching a movie while trying to have some privacy is actually kind of sad. It makes me re-think things a bit.
My parents are hopeless. They simply don’t get it. I haven’t even tried to bring up my fandom with them in eons.
My mom compares him to Liberace. Like I said, she doesn’t get it. She reads People magazine every week, and if there is anything Adam in it, she calls me to tell me about it. LOL. I just pretend like I didn’t know and that she is telling me for the first time! I actually thank her for letting me know!! LOLOLOL.
I actually showed my dad Brigadoon a long time ago. He loved the song, knew it from the original Broadway cast album, as it wasn’t in the movie with Gene Kelly. He thought Adam’s voice was fantastic. But that was it. He didn’t want to hear anything else. I did show him the vids of The Prayer anyway. Again, he thought they were “terrific”, but, wasn’t interested in anything else.
Thanks mils. I thought it was a bit sad too that he was leery of sitting next to a fan because he wasn’t sure what he would be stuck with for 1.5 hours. I think that particular day was probably a little unusual, though, since he had missed his original flight due to a security delay, was delayed getting to the city where he had a big show that night, and was stuck in a last-minute coach seat in a full row on no-frills Southwest. I’d be a little stressed out too if I were him and probably hunker down to chill out for a bit before I had to be “on” later that day.
You’re right though – even though sitting next to him on a flight would be my idea of a dream flight, I imagine it would not likely be his.
My memory of the Voice/Adam Levine storm re: WWFM is that not only did Adam Levine say that he had never heard WWFM before, but he also said that he would bet that the performer Nakia had sung it better than the original singer. Which sent Lambert fans into overdrive to set Levine straight. Hah.
I agree that judges on these shows should always do their homework and listen to at least the original versions of every song that’s being sung that night.

That performance last night in the battle round was god-awful though. OMG they butchered that poor song! Just goes to show that it’s a hard song to sing and the fact that Adam does it so effortlessly is a testament to his talent. I saw that its exposure on the Voice resulted in a surge of WWFM sales on itunes! (I think it got up to #65ish overall)

And I agree that judges should do some background work to earn those$$$ they get from judging. Our Adam would I am sure of that. But as the actor guy in the PLL interview said about Adam “He has worked his ass off so he has earned my respect” or something like that… Talking about PLL, I hope there will be a vid about that later – I don’t think there is stream to watch it abroad (and it will be middle of the night anyway).

There is a poster on MJs who constantly harps on Trespassing’s sales (last number we saw in August 151k and NO ONE knows after that, plus NO ONE knows track sales either). (Talking about US only, although she claims to “know” that int’l sales are low.) I remember when Tsp first came out on iTunes, many tracks were charting highly for at least a week, separately from the album. Anyway, she claims that radio play is linked to album sales, or vice versa – depending on her meme at the moment.
So, someone PLEASE explain to me why Carly Rae, Cher Lloyd, Olly Murs and others get sooooo much radio play, yet their album sales are in the Kris Allen range. Even Ellie Goulding’s album sales are quite low, sitting quite below Adam in iTunes pop. Yes, the singles are selling but that’s because they are played non-stop on the radio. People buy what they hear.
Many album debuts lately have been somewhat below or even a LOT below Adam’s first week, yet not a peep about that. Even Muse’s touted album was only 23k above Adam – that’s very little. Alanis Morissette’s was QUITE below.
I firmly believe radio doesn’t give a shit about requests – they play what they get paid to play, and PD’s know who’s paying.

Just saw the post about the fan on the SW flight who scared Adam away…feeling so sad for her and sad for Adam that he felt he had to avoid her.
And Adam is so consistently kind, that he probably felt a twinge, too.
But I totally get that he wouldn’t want to sit next to an enthusiastic fan for an hour and a half, especially if he was afraid of that fan attracting others.
I was thinking, another perspective on not wanting to sit next to a big fan is that he probably needed to rest his voice before interviews and a show. Airplanes are very dry, and you have to talk louder to be heard over engine noise.

As cwm mentioned above, the poor guy missed his flight (stressful enough) and probably was just looking forward to collapsing and chilling out for that 90 minutes. He did what he had to do and he did it perfectly. I have no doubt in my mind that he was a total gentleman about the entire situation. Being a teacher, I can totally empathize. I happen to live in the same county where I teach. At times, I do run into students/parents when I am out with my family. I am always very polite and social, but I do move on. That is exactly how Adam handled this.
