November finds Adam starting out the month with a rather exclusive gig at “Live in the Vineyard” in Napa, California, followed later on in the month by his first concerts in South Africa. Recent information hints that these concerts could be the unofficial start of a potential upcoming Trespassing tour, but we’ll have to wait and see about that.

Had a hard time finding a good photo this month – I’m not a fan of the Glampire pix this year so had to look for other pics. Eventually decided on a slightly pensive look for Adam, from the Arizona State Fair concert. Hope you like it.

Enjoy the chat!

wow, so quiet on here….everyone must be worn out from redecorating the corner…

jlurks, I finally made a donation to a charity today in lieu of my Queenbert dvd. I’d been waiting for one that means a lot to me, and finally today being Rememberence Sunday, I put some extra in The Royal British Legion poppy appeal tin. It was a cause close to my parents hearts, they were poppy sellers for many, many years, and used to organise the poppy collection of the town we lived in, my brother has been doing it since my parents passed away, as a child I used to spend many evenings before the day assembling the poppies, as they used to come in a box of petals, a box of stalks, a box of black centres etc. One of my best memories when I was young was watching the Remberance parade from the Cenotaph in London on the TV, and trying to spot my mum and dad.

    Lovely story, HK fan.

I loved your story HK fan. I just came here from Facebook where another ALL member (not sure I should mention her name) had recently posted “In Flanders Fields”. I visualized the Fields of poppies as I was reading it. Of course, I had to borrow it and post it on my FB status as well. But, to be a part of something like that (such as you and your family were/are), really has to have such beautiful memories.

Out Magazine poll in case anyone hasn’t had a chance to vote on the OUT100 boldest pics. I checked the last couple of days on here and and didn’t find it.

Not that anyone here has to be sold on voting for him but this pic is inspired. Adam does shoot from the hip and the subversion of two ultra American icons -the King and the cowboy – is pretty inspired.

Something weird happened yesterday after I posted about beds in the corner. I was bounced off the site and couldn’t get back on. Couldn’t help wondering if I had put myself so far into the corner that I was out-the-door.

NVM, Ron, I “liked your Barbra videos on facebook ‘cos I couldn’t do it here. The one with her son, is very sweet. Her sister has a gorgeous voice, too. Imagine singing like that and having Barbra for a sibling. In any other family..

  6. TLKC says:

Best thoughts to everyone on Remembrance Day or Veterans Day, depending on your country. In Canada, we are just a few minutes away from laying the wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Ottawa and other Canadian cities. Salute to our parents and grandparents who sacrificed so much for us and for their countries.

I am typing this with a few tears in my eyes. I too remember assembling poppies as a child. My mother, as a widow of a WW1 veteran, was very active in the American Legion Auxillary. I still keep a clipping from our small, local newspaper of me at 10 years old selling a poppy to our Mayor on Poppy Day.

  8. milwlovesadam says:

TLKC, I had problems with the web in general for a couple hours yesterday. I still think that Sandy is affecting power out east and servers have issues at times.

  9. TLKC says:

I don’t know mils. Both of us were “corner” people yesterday. Looks like a pattern to me.

Just watched the ceremony in Ottawa on my TV. There are still some WWII vets in attendance and they all look so sad. It must be so hard to make the trip to this event every year and, in the middle of the minute of silence, to meditate on those of your community who didn’t make it though the past year.

  10. milwlovesadam says:

But, we need power in the corner! Gifs. Vidz. Smoothies. Juices. Lava lamps.

Remembering Veterans here too. My grandpa in WW1 in the trenches in France, mustard gas, my uncle in WW11 and Korea, my dad in Korea. Dad volunteers every week at the VA here.

My father spent two years in India during WWII in the US army on an airbase servicing the planes that flew over the “Hump”. He is still going strong, doing research, and will celebrate his 93rd birthday this Thursday.

  13. Kradamour says:

My dad was part of the Normandy invasion on DDay and only spoke of it once in my life, the memories were too wrenching…and he was part of a brigade of soldiers who were the first to arrive at a Nazi death camp, and he spoke only once of what they tried to do to save those who were still living, the soldiers went almost without food for several days so that they could give their rations to the inmates, because there was no food in the camp…but he also later was part of the liberation of Paris and spoke of that deliriously happy time often, and was so proud to have been there.
And now my son is in Afghanistan, and I gave him one of his grandfather’s dog tags for protection.

Cape town is 7 hours ahead of EST. So if the concert is 7-9pm it will be 12-2pm here, on Tuesday.

The tweet from Brian that said they were leaving was around 8:15 last night so that puts them on a flight that connected in London and is just over northern Africa now. Should arrive in Capetown at 7am—-midnight EST.

  21. Kradamour says:

Ohmygoodness I will be home and available on Tuesday afternoon!
    Woooooooooooooooot!
For this, I will figure out how to receive a website on my TV…I think that it is possible…that would be glorious!

We have at least one Veteran in our group. Jlurks is a Navy Veteran. Any other? My DH was in the Marines at the end of Korean war. Kradamour isn’t your DH a retired serviceman? Veterans are in every family and it seems like every generation. Hope someday that won’t be. US Flag

Just curious???? does someone live in Redding, California (reference World Clock)??

  29. firstimerob says:

JOSEPHINE Going by the Huntington Beach time zone (same as Redding) for a 8:00 concert our time will 10:am. Does that help you?

  30. rs says:

Wow! Capetown and Jerusalem are on exactly the same time zone! And I am not at home on Tuesday evening. I have to leave the house at 7:00. I guess that there isn’t any way to preset the stream. Oh bummer. When the concerts are in the States, they are always in the middle of my night so this would have been a great chance to watch live. Hopefully I will be able to get the one fron Jo-berg. Is there any news about a stream from there?

  31. Kradamour says:

Yes, Jojosie, my husband retired after 20 years as a naval officer, how kind of you to remember…he is the son and grandson of naval officers, three generations at the Naval Academy. It’s kind of like the family business.
    Smile
But our son? He wears a green uniform. He is more tanks than ships…and he was very moved by my uncle’s WWII stories of parachuting behind enemy lines in Serbia, as part of a group that was the beginning of the special forces community. My uncle also served in Korea, and my son did his first overseas deployment there, following in his uncle’s footsteps.

jlurk-been to the Sundial Bridge many times and is one of the beautiful sights in Redding but must say Mt. Shasta is God’s mountain especially now that it is white with snow!!!

  36. HK fan says:

Thanks for all the storys, so interesting. My mum was a batwoman in the WAAF, and my dad was in The Royal Marine Band, the non combatative part of the Royal Marines, they served on the ships in the engine rooms and other jobs. He was serving on board HMS Naiad when it was torpedoed. We managed to track down a book on Amazon once called Life Below the Water Line, which had a chapter on the sinking of the Naiad, he was so happy with that. He lied about his age to enlist and joined at 14…the 2 of them met on a blind date and were married for 58 years Heart
I find so many younger people nowadays can’t be bothered with Rememberance day, thinking its only about the 2 world wars, and they’re so long ago now etc, they seem to forget that there are still conflicts going on nowadays.

The Capetown concert is 2am on thursday morning for me….can’t do that on a school nightFrown

I also come from a family with US Military history. My dad was Navy. Part of his time (26 months) served on Peleliu Island which is about 6 miles square. He had one brother who served in the Army at the same time. My mom had two brothers in the Navy at that same time as well. One made it home, the other perished in a welding torch accident near Dutch New Guinea (I think aboard a submarine, not sure). My brother had 23 years in the Miss. National Guard and was about to deploy in Operation Desert Storm when things were halted there. He has two sons, the older served in the Miss. Air Nat’l Guard and the other served in Miss. Nat’l Guard in Iraq for a year during 2004-2005. And, also, my ex-husband was in the US Air Force and served a year in Vietnam and 6 months in South Korea.

Thanks for all your stories. Veteran’s day really comes to life through these personal accounts. I have nothing to contribute. My parents were children in Germany during WW2, one set of my grandparents were on the wrong side of history, one on the right side of history. Thinking of Germany’s history of war is always painful for me. I really wish all your loved ones that are currently serving a safe return.

  46. asifclueless says:

    Oh hi there Mr. Perfectbert!

  47. Kradamour says:

“Thinking of Germany’s history of war is always painful for me.”

But Turquoise, every country with a history has had its ups and downs and all arounds when it comes to wars and being on the “right” or “wrong” side…and now Germany is a great country, one of the real forces in the European Union.
When a country works through its issues and ends up stronger for it, there is nothing to cause pain. Or at least that is the way I see it.
    Peace

Thanks to all for sharing wonderful military connections on this Armistice/Remembrance/Veterans Day.
I think also of all the wives and husbands and children and parents who have waited over the years for their loved ones to come home…
Someone asked me once how I could tolerate the thought of my son waging war. No, I replied…he is doing his best to wage peace.
And that, I think, is the true message of Veteran’s Day; to honor those who waged peace.
