After what has seemed like an eternally long wait since Adam’s Glam Nation/FYE era ended, we have finally arrived at May 2012 – the month that Adam’s new album “Trespassing” will be released! The album will drop in the U.S. & Canada on May 15th. Lucky fans in New Zealand & Japan will get the album a few days earlier on May 11th, Australia & Germany a few days later on May 18th, while some other European countries (U.K., Ireland, France) will have to wait until July. In addition to the album release, we can look forward to three concerts with Adam headlining this month, the KRZ Summer Bash in Wilkes-Barre PA on May 25th, at Six Flags New England on May 26th, and the Freshtival in National Harbor MD on May 27th. We will also see Adam perform on American Idol May 17th, will have the official push of “Never Close Our Eyes” to pop radio beginning on May 29, and may see the music video for NCOE later this month as well!

Our featured photo for this month’s chat comes from Adam’s mini-concert of April 26th on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

It’s going to be an exciting month as we begin the Trespassing era, enjoy the chat!

OK, here’s my two cents about the Ke$ha thing:
Remember, back in spring 2011 when the US became aware of Sauli, I had already noticed it from day one in November 2010. I saw the Finnish tabloids on the very day they were published, did research on Sauli and shared with cher, rs, agathe.hb by email that I thought he was the ONE for Adam, physical type, TV reality show background, etc. I kept following the tabloids (who were trying to get info from Sauli) even before we met up for the London GNT. I never said anything to anyone except them, hoping hoping hoping it would stay under the radar to give them more time.

So I especially noticed how ON FIRE Adam was with his interaction with Tommy in all the subsequent appearances, especially Amsterdam! I chalk this up to his longing for more Sauli.
The fact that he hightailed it to Paris immediately after London to meet up with Sauli, to me, makes it highly unlikely that he would sleep with Ke$ha immediately before reuniting with Sauli.
I do think he maybe had something with Ke$ha possibly the night of the Kradison concert (both had drinks and kissed) or at another of the times they coincided at awards shows, and then had a nice little sentimental meeting in Paris before Sauli arrived. But I think he had Sauli too much on his mind for anything else. JMHO.

Poster at MJ’s said EW gave a B- to the album – liked first half but not “overwrought balladry” of second. Anyone got a link?

ultima, I’ve checked EW on line, and the review is not yet up.Looks like a next week. Anyway, the reviewer is the same one that gave Carrie album B+, and since RS gave Carrie 2.5 stars ,everything is even out in my eyes.
I think that there is no love lost between EW and Adam, and reviewer is never objective. I take RS 4 stars over EW B- anytime.

  8. ultimathule says:

Right, Oksana – thanks for checking.

  9. cwm says:

I honestly don’t think it was Kesha in Paris. Now, maybe it was Kesha, I’m not disputing that. I just don’t think it was in Paris.

Sauli was in Paris with Adam. They met there for that week that Adam was in Paris doing press. That was the first time that he and Sauli had been together (that we know of) since they had met. That was also the week that Adam got the call that he was nominated for a Grammy, and when asked later about how he heard about the Grammy nom, he referenced that he was in Paris “with a special friend” and that it was “very romantic.”

JMO, but I don’t think he’d try an experimental encounter with a woman at the same time that he and Sauli are finally together after being apart for a month and probably pretty hot for each other and trying to see if their relationship might go somewhere. I think the encounter with a woman would have been earlier during the GNT. Not that it’s any of my business of course. Wink

ETA: Just read riskylady‘s post. What she said!

I was just looking on Metacritic. RS average score for all reviews in the database is 64, or just over 3 stars. EW average score is 77, which is about a B-. So relative to their internal mean scores, RS gives a well above average score and EW gives about average.

Here are all of the critic’s reviews for FYE listed at Metacritic, with the Metacritic numeric score followed by the actual review rating. The Metacritic average score for FYE is 71 or “generally favorable reviews”.

    EW: 83 (B+)
All Music Guide: 80 (4 out of 5 stars)
LA Times: 75 (3 out of 4 stars)
    The A.V. Club: 75 (B)
Spin: 70 (unable to find original review online)
    Slant: 70 (3.5 out of 5 stars)
Chicago Tribune: 63 (2.5 out of 4 stars)
Rolling Stone: 60 (3 out of 5 stars)
NOW Magazine: 60 (3 out of 5 stars)
New York Times: 40 (no specific rating given but review was quite negative)

There is no Metacritic entry for Trespassing yet, but so far from the list of reviewers above we have:
Rolling Stone: 80 (4 out of 5 stars)
    EW: 77 (B-)

I take RS 4 stars over EW B- anytime.

What is the circulation of EW? How likely is it that casual readers will see that review and decide not to check the album out? I get the feeling that RS is has more professional cred, but how many people will see that rating? Is it still very popular and influential? Forgive all the questions, but I am in a pop publication desert over here.

When were the pics taken on Kesha’s facebook page – a party – obviously both snockered – that looked like they were going in for a liplock?

    According to Wikipedia…
    EW – 1.8 million
    RS – 1.5 million

Not sure which one is more influential but RS (IMHO) has more musical cred (at least used to).
One interesting tidbit that I found from wikipedia is that k.d.lang was on EW’s first cover in 1990!

  27. Reese says:

Just jumping in for a moment and see a few entries theorizing that Adam slept with Kesha. For what it’s worth, I recall an interview, way back just after idol where he talked about sleeping with a woman. He had tried it only once, and did not enjoy it. He commented that the gal’s personal hygiene was lacking and that “it wasn’t good”. Then he made a face and mouth gesture that indicated “yuck”. This interview was from before you saw him out w/Kesha.

  30. eywflyer says:

Wow, the EW review is totally unacceptable. Not because of the B- grade as everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the snarky gay jokes and blatant stereotyping.

  31. Ron says:

I’m stunned, eywflyer!!! I can’t remember when I’ve read anything so offensive!!! I’m at a loss for words. I can’t believe it.

  32. eywflyer says:

Heres a twitlonger of the EW review so as to not give them hits:

    http://t.co/XeI50RGs

Ron, I’m glad you agree with me, good to know I’m not off base in feeling this is horribly offensive and unacceptable treatment by EW. Twitter peeps are reporting them to GLAAD.

  33. Ron says:

    Well, I like this comment:

I have read some reviews about how amazing this album is and I was considering buying it. I can now say that after I read your review I am absolutely buying it and I am telling my friends to do the same

  34. Ron says:

    And, this one:

OK people. This article is NOT ok. Go to the bottom of this page and unindate Customer Service | Letters to the Editor and General Iquiries with your dissatisfaction with this kind of rude, uniformed, homophobic article. This article should be removed. An apology should be issued in it’s place. Unacceptable.

  38. luval says:

I am sickened by that EW review. Ron, thanks for telling me to hold off re-subscribing. Ms. Maerz you are going to get an earful. You should be ashamed of yourself.

On another note…I have occasionally been requesting NCOE from my local top 40 radio station. FINALLY I received a reply from the top DJ:

“As Music Director, I am very familiar with the song! We’ll keep our eye on
it! It’s definitely good! Thanks for the email Smile

Don’t know what “keep our eye on it” could mean. Maybe seeing how it does in the more national stations, but I’m happy he replied to me.

Now off to answer that EW person….

  39. turquoisewaters says:

Already left a comment and will also write a letter to the editor. Shame on the author of this article. Unbelievably homophobic and rude. The way the meaning of chokehold is turned around is unforgivable.

  40. glambotgram says:

Thanks Ron and eywflyer I reported to GLAAD

  41. luval says:

Left a comment and contacted the editor of EW. GLAAD is next. I am very sad about this review.

  42. turquoisewaters says:

I reported too. And wrote a letter to the editor. She better be careful who she messes with.
and: Go Obama. Took him a while, but he knows what the right thing to do is, and he finally did it. Time will tell how this plays out for the election, but he can rest assured to be on the right side of history on this issue.

  43. eywflyer says:

Comment #30,000 and the toaster oven goes to Turquoisewaters.

I’m very sad about this EW “review”. Will it ever get better for Adam with all of these assholes in the world? Sometimes I wonder…

  44. glambotgram says:

Congrats turquoisewaters the toaster oven has made the rounds. Wow 30,000, we do like to talk.

  45. turquoisewaters says:

OMG. How did you know that my RL toaster over just died?? Such an honor. (Takes a bow.) Too bad the 30,000th comment was about such a repulsive piece of writing. Honestly, my noble principles are all suspended for now, I really hope this backfires on this Marissa lady.

  46. eywflyer says:

Here is some great news, directly from Adam!

@adamlambert @melirose89 good morning America on Monday!!

  47. luval says:

ABC Good Morning America…ok, they’ll probably bring up you know what!!!!

  48. ultimathule says:

Did the trifecta – comment – editor of EW – GLAAD.

So pissed. Looked her up – she’s from Keokuk, Iowa – not particularly attractive – husband Chuck Klosterman 2009 – worked with RS a coupla years ago – getting a voodoo doll and sticking pins in it. Beeeetch.

  50. Ron says:

I need a moment of levity here.

Congratulations turquoisewaters for being the second person to steal that toaster oven away from me! I came up with the idea of a toaster oven. I don’t have a toaster oven. I would like a toaster oven. Wink

Funny coincidence on the EW site. On page 24, I think, I made a comment and who appears directly below me? TLKC. This isn’t a response within our group but responses from the world wide web! Yet, there’s TLKC and I … together.

However, I’m really torn up about this so-called review on EW. It wasn’t an article about the music. It was a blatant homophobic attack on another human being. How can we tell gay teens it’s going to get better when they can read this kind of thing in a national magazine? I’m just appalled. Big Frown

I’ve contacted GLAAD, emailed EW and now what do I do? I know … time for four, five, or six a BEER. Mad Razz
