Adam+Queen-iHeart2013

Queen+AL-Tour2014-640

The musical force that is Adam is marching full speed ahead. With recent appearances on Drag Race, AI and Glee, he is making his way back into the limelight (not that he ever left it for us here). With a news conference set for Thursday, March 6th at Madison Square Garden, we are sure to find out details of a Queen + AL tour. So get ready to jump on the bus! Oh, and don’t forget that Adam is still appearing on Glee and working on his own music too!

With the special announcement coming it was suggested to use a Q+AL photo for this month’s header. But what about all the other great photos from last month? Oh, the dilemma! Well, I hope this photo is a compromise. Taken at the London show by Mark Gledhill (glemazon), it shows Adam in the shadows about to emerge into the full spotlight. Cross your whatsits so that this tour results in getting this multi-talented performer the respect and recognition that he merits.

Enjoy the chat!

LOL. Not a good fit for Queen IMHO (the song, the singer). Guitar pretty good, but IMHO English “faux soul singers” should stay away from Hendrix (throw all the veggies you want, IDGF!!!)

Maybe he was perusing through old Queen youtubes & saw Paul Rodgers singing it with them…knew he’d be touring with Queen…called Brian/Roger…they thought it would be a good idea…decided to test it on NYE…That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!!

  4. loveroftalent says:

@aelyI understand what you are saying but Adam has had to put up with so much hate and hateful things said about..If all Kris has to put up with is that Adam should have won,I would rather deal with that then some of the nasty comments I read about Adam..

Isn’t Paul Rodgers British? Or am I missing something?! Confused

  6. luval says:

riskylady…are you saying Paul Rodgers is not a good fit for Red House with Queen or Adam?

  7. ultimathule says:

Didn’t TJ say that when they get together they play/listen to the blues?

  8. aely says:

I was only talking about careers. Not the BS. He got all the recognition, one huge world tour, a #1 & 3 BB album, 2nd small overseas tour, fronting Queen, TV shows etc.

Not downplaying the BS nasty crap at all – just thinking out loud really. I am just thankful Adam still has a much better path ahead than Kris.

  9. riskylady says:

Oh, you’re right, he was born in England, amended my post. I am saying a)Red House not a good fit for Queen and b) I don’t think Rodgers is a good fit for Red House OR Queen.
I love Brian May with a passion, but based only on that YouTube, don’t think blues guitar is his strong point. But, surely he has the skills to do it better, so if they decided to do it, in the way Adam sings it, he might be better inspired. Cool Cool Cool

  10. ultimathule says:

It does seem more than an out-of-the-blue pick for Adam to sing that particular song. Or maybe in his research he saw this vid and decided to try it. Sure wouldn’t mind hearing him sing it again.

  11. aely says:

I have never seen that you tube. I try very hard and block out Paul’s time with Queen. LOL! I think Brian could pull it off no problem. Only watched about 30 seconds of that you tube, can’t really tell much because that recording is bad. Still, baffles me that Paul was Freddie’s favorite singer.

  12. riskylady says:

Hehehe, we do know that Adam has a little competitive streak when it comes to singing, as demonstrated by his comment to Slezak in those Idolatry interviews: Remember he was talking about how Gene Simmons mocked his boots saying he might fall when singing with Kiss, and he then snarkily asked Slezak, “But did you hear him (Simmons) sing?”
Maybe he got fed up with seeing articles asking Brian if Paul was going to front the band, and decided to do a little subversive Red House. Wouldn’t put it past him (and Tommy).
Just glad I was there because that was all kinds of sweet hotness!

  13. riskylady says:

LOL AL! Cake, watermelon, Pizza and pumpkin much better than veggies, although….how the hell did you get past the gatekeepers???

Just had to reminiscent four years ago this week.

This performance was a masterful, sensual piece of artistry. It wasn’t rushed, and had a quality that showed Adam’s range, without over singing.
It just magically flowed and weaved in & out of pure one of a kind nuances.
    Loved Zac on the keys.
Adam really had the audience drooling, and on the edge of their seats. Wished I could have seen this performance live!!!

Hi twilightmagic8 Waving Welcome back. I was just talking to riskylady about that Fantasy Springs WLL in our 3 hour Skype visit tonight. It was my all time favorite performance for such a long time, heard it constantly, then I think I got oversaturated with it and Trespassing came out, and hadn’t listened for ages. Definitely ranks up there as one of his best live performances, if not the best, if only for the effect it had on the audience, lol.

  30. cwm says:

Thanks for sharing that comment, HK fan. So true! I agree with that commenter 100%, especially what he said about the tone, maturity, resonance, and control that are so evident in Adam’s voice, how this prompts others to do their very best when they are singing with him, and how even when he is harmonizing, he is able to energize and embellish without taking over.

Miss Chaos, you wondered about how the tweeter “Malcolm” knew what notes Adam was hitting and what it meant. I’ll give it a shot…

    Malcolm @Malc2392
@adamlambert Get the fuck out, man.Which guy sings a high E flat on an ‘oo’ vowel full-voiced like that (Barracuda) GET THE FUCK OUT YO. Bye.

    Miss Chaos:
How does someone know that, I wouldnt know what note it even is. I had piano lessons for 8 years when I was young and listen to all kinds of music. I wouldnt know crap about what note it is. Good for Adam singing that I guess

Ok. If you find the Middle C on a piano keyboard, High C is the C one octave above Middle C. The High E is the E above High C. E-flat is the black key one half-step down from E natural.

This website has a helpful graphic that shows the relationship of the keyboard to the printed music staff. Look at the Treble clef at the bottom of the page for the range that Adam is singing in. You can locate the Middle C, then the High C, then the High E-flat.

    http://www.true-piano-lessons.com/piano-notes.html

Malcolm is excited that Adam is able to hit a High E-flat in full chest voice on a “ooo” vowel. That’s because one usually needs to go to “head voice” to hit higher notes, but Adam has such a range in his chest voice, that he is able to belt out high notes in chest voice that most tenors would need to go to their head voice to hit. (Head voice is when you use the resonance in your head to create the tone; chest voice uses the resonance in your chest. Head voice has a softer tone; chest voice a louder, stronger tone (belting). Men also use their falsetto to hit really high notes – this is the light, airy voice – but Adam rarely uses his falsetto because he can go so high in his head voice.)

Malcolm is also excited because Adam hit the High E-flat with his chest voice on an “ooo” vowel. That’s because the shape of the vowel matters for how well you can hit a high note and how it sounds, because the shape of the vowel affects how much “space” you can create in your mouth and throat for the note. When you sing “ooo” on a high note, you can tell that your mouth and throat are much more closed than when you sing “aah” on that same note – “aah” opens up your throat and mouth much more and creates more space for the note. So, for Adam to be hitting the High E-flat in chest voice on a closed vowel is impressive!

I’m not sure what song Malcolm is referring to, though. I assumed that he was talking about one of the new Glee songs. In Barracuda, Adam hits a High E natural (even higher than E-flat) in several places (for example at 1:42 on the “yeah”), in chest voice, but “yeah” is not on an “ooo” vowel. In The Happening, he hits a High C at 1:43 on the “you” (an “ooo” vowel), but on that note he is using his head voice, not his chest voice. And “Gloria” tops out at the A above Middle C, so that’s not it. So Malcolm must be talking about some other song than one of the new Glee songs. But this has been fun for me to investigate regardless!

In this youtube video, Adam is documented going up to the G-sharp above High C (head voice, open “eeee” vowel):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dQes6PWFXs.
But I think he has gone higher than that since this video was posted; I thought I had seen somewhere where he has gone as high as the A or the B-flat above High C, which is almost two octaves above Middle C. Which is really really high! I’m a soprano and that is pretty much the top of the soprano range. I just squeak when I try to go that high!

The way that I figure out what notes Adam is hitting is that I sing along with him, sustain the highest note he hits, and then find that note on the piano using my own voice. Works like a charm!

One of the reasons I love singing along with Adam so much is that the part of his range that he sings in most often sits perfectly in my range, so it’s really fun and comfortable to sing along with him. I love it. Listening to Music

End of my mini music lesson! Sorry I went on for so long! But it was fun to think about, investigate, and write up. Smile If I made any factual errors, hopefully there are other singers out there (looking at you, Ron!) who can correct me. Music Note

It is funny, buddytv.com was the first site I ever found when I started following Idol and searching out info on Adam. It was through them that I found MJs and as the saying goes, I never looked back, lol. I read the articles but it never dawned on me to look at the comments. I now see that there is at least one very perceptive and intelligent commenter there.

  39. ultimathule says:

Well, cwm, all I can say is your explication of Malcolm’s tweet was just terrific – really appreciate the details regarding Adam’s singing. And I’m curious, too, about what his regimen is for keeping his voice in top form. If you have any comments on that, as well, would love to read them.

  40. ultimathule says:

When I read a comment like atomom’s, it just makes me so happy to realize that there are people out there who recognize, not only the brilliance of his voice, but what a classy, generous guy he is as well.

  45. Miss Chaos says:

CWMThanks for all that info. I understand it a bit, just blown away that someone can hear it and know what note it is. But if it is their expertise in that area, I guess its not that hard. Kinda like if I talk Agility with dogs or a lot of horse movements and terms, people wouldnt know what I was talking about.
Anyhow the main reason I asked is that my music professor son, that writes very long complicated symphonies that are played all over the world, makes a face when I bring Adam up singing with Queen. He says Freddy sang with a deep chest and Adam sings in his head. Well I copied and gave him your information, and I cant wait to see his attitude answer lol.

  46. glambotgram says:

Miss Chaos you can tell that guy Adam does sing in his full chest voice. Most people don’t think the notes he hits are possible except for head voice. It is just a testament to his range. Adam has corrected people before when they said he was using falsetto.

Basically the guy probably knows music but he doesn’t know Adam’s voice at all.

OMG Miss Chaos, now I’m totally intimidated that your music professor son who writes symphonies is going to be critically judging everything I said in my post! Yikes. Maybe I should have run it by my music professor choir director first! LOL

But. I do stand behind what I said about Adam’s voice. Smile
