2014 wraps up this month and what a year it has been. We did not get a new album but many of us got to see Adam and Queen perform live and will see them again in the UK and Europe. Adam still found time to record “Imagine” for UNICEF and starting December 1, also be part of “giveStars“ where all proceeds go to charity. Throw in a Classic Rock Award for Band of the Year and an appearance on the UK X Factor and I would say that it was a pretty good year for Adam and ALL his fans. December will probably be quieter as he prepares for the Winter 2015 Q+AL tour but we have plenty to keep us going until the tour starts. Here’s hoping that some news about the new album will be Adam’s year-end gift to us! He’s the gift that keeps on giving!! And speaking of gifts, how about spending NYE with Queen and Adam in London! What a way to ring in the New Year!!!

asif, that vid you posted from Vancouver was incredible. The video was one of the best ever, his vocals were immaculate, I just wish the audio were better.

Oh, and by the way, I loved the Voice last night. I thought Bruno was off the chain un real. GREAT!!! The curlers were making a reference to a certain aspect of funk culture. In the video, he’s in a beauty parlor under one of those huge 1960’s pink hood dryers.
I just loved Jessie J, and am glad that country guy won. He’s got star written all over him, and I am not a country fan in any way shape or form. But, good for him.

Anyone watch The Sing-Off last night? One episode only. They brought back past winners Pentatonix and Home Free to perform. I can see why Pentatonix’s Xmas album is selling well. They are just awesome. Short and sweet competition. I am amazed at those acapella musicians and singers. Wow! Color me impressed.

One show only for the Sing Off? Was going to tape it but was taping something else. I did see Pentatonix, though. Very good but I prefer traditional Christmas music versus the jazzed up stuff. How great for them that they have this success.

Hi asif, Not true, I am afraid. Hannukah is the English version since there is no equivalent letter (and you/they can’t pronounce) the Hebrew letter “khet” at the beginning of the word. When Hebrew is transliterated the guttural kh sound is spelled “ch”, but some people change it to make it easier to pronounce. Best example is Isaac Mizrahi, rather than Mizrachi, which is how an Israeli would spell it, and it is a Hebrew name. The original Hebrew name for Hannah is Channah, or that twisted bread that we eat on the Sabbath that you call Hallah bread, we call Challah.
I always write the name of the holiday as Chanukah, probably because I pronounce the guttural letter at the beginning of the word.

I love to learn different languages. While living in Japan I was taking intensive Japanese courses … speaking, reading and writing. But that was in 1991, … 23 years ago.
I didn’t learn or use Arabic at all in Dhahran. We lived in An American compound and outside most people were expats and spoke English.

Hi asif. Arabic has the guttural sound, too. Actually, there are two different kh sounds, one more breathy than the other. Correct Hebrew, as in that spoken by those who came from the Arab countries like Yemen, Iraq, etc, differentiates, but most modern Israelis don’t use the more breathy one, and I can’t pronounce it, lol, and that is actually the one that begins the word Ch/Hannukah.
