After a very eventful past month for Adam and his fans, December has arrived. Adam enjoyed quite a bit of publicity during November, including an epic performance with Queen at the EMAs, a Rolling Stone interview, a mentoring appearance on Majors & Minors, and his return to the AMA stage (unfortunately only as a presenter this time around). Still no new music for us to enjoy with our holiday feasts, but all the signs currently point to the lead single from Adam’s new album being released in January.

Update 7 PM 12/14: as per Adam’s tweets today, “Better Than I Know Myself”, the lead single from his new album “Trespassing”, will be released on Tuesday, December 20th!

Enjoy the chat during this last month of 2011!

I will say this – if the initial reaction is so mixed (meh for some) HERE, I don’t have a lot of optimism for a monster hit out there in the harsh world of radio, beyond the realm of Adam fans.

I actually think we might be much more critical customers than the general public. Because we care so darn much.

I am hoping so much you are right.

But anyways I am still loving the snippet and the cover art, so I’m a very happy fan right now.

  8. eywflyer says:

turquoisewaters, you could be right about that. I think I’m one of those who would prefer Adam to do more rock-oriented material, or at least material that
prominently features his vocals. Sounds like from other’s descriptions that this might not be that type of song, but I’ll anxiously await hearing the full single on Tuesday!

  9. dcglam says:

Love the new thread photo, eywflyer.
    You’re a fast worker!

  10. Kradamour says:

eywflyer, your post made me think. Rock? Nope, not for me. But voice front and center, unlike this snippet? Absolutely.
I think one issue is that we are all looking for different things, and Adam has assured us that his album will have a variety. To be honest, I don’t think that there is anything that would make me flail over this song, but I assume that there will be something for me on the album. Even if there isn’t, I’ll buy it because I want Adam to be as successful as he wants to be, and I am glad to help with that, because there is something about him that touches my heart. Even if I hated all of his music, I would still do what I can to promote him, because he is just so damn deserving, and I love his persona as much as his talent.
And I have history with hating an album and loving the live performance. I doubt that I will ever listen to FYE again, but the concerts? Could never get enough. No matter what this album turns out to be, I have no doubt that the live performances will be just what I want.
    So it’s all good. Heart

I’m currently assembling the final Glam Nation Tour recap – 12/16/10 at Club Nokia. Trying to find two good videos for each song since that one is a special show! It will end up being 1 year and 4 days from the end of GNT until the release of the lead single from Trespassing. This timing may still allow for the next tour to start up during summer 2012 (July perhaps?), depending on the exact album release date and how much album promo is done.

  14. Ellessay says:

I generally don’t like snippets. Can’t tell anything from them. I couldn’t get excited over any of the FYE snippets, although I loved the majority of the songs.

However, I did like the demo of this song well enough, and I lke the snippet. I’m looking forward to buying it on Tuesday.

  15. Ellessay says:

Watched X-Factor tonight. Does anyone else get the feeling that Simon is reliving Season 8 of AI? He had Rachel singing “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction,” and he had Drew taking upbeat songs and singing them as ballads like Adam did with “If I Can’t Have You.” He had Drew perform her MJ song sitting in a chair like “Mad World.” Then tonight we get Melanie singing “Feeling Good.” It’s like Simon is trying all of these things that he liked about Adam. Even some of the things he has said about Melanie is reminiscent of what he said about Adam, especially tonight.

  16. Kradamour says:

That is so interesting, Ellessay (about Simon on XFactor). I wonder if he is doing it consciously?

  17. Miss Chaos says:

No Simon has a small mind, and is out of touch with the music world! Laugh

  18. Ceddies says:

Just got a chance to listen to the snippet. I like it–it really sounds good with headphones. IMO, though, if you don’t like Katy Perry, you may not like this song. I can almost hear Katy–if I didn’t know it was Adam. That may not be a bad thing because Katy seems to have a hit with every song. That’s just my opinion from the snippet, entire song will probably change things up for me.

  19. eywflyer says:

Wow, the last Glam Nation Tour recap is finished (will be posted Friday). For the first time since the site began, there are no more recaps to work on. Top 16 countdown wraps up on Friday too. Glad Adam is coming out with new material very soon! Good night!

morning asif, you there? The announcement came early and I was worried that you would sleep through it, but then I saw your major squeeing when I got up this morning and all was right with the world. I wasn’t sure when I first heard the snippet, but I can’t get it out of my head, so that is good. I have to remember that as much as I adore Adam, I am not his target audience. If this is what they are playing on the radio and is what he loves, and it will make the world see what we see, I am fine with it. And knowing me, when the whole song comes out it will be on constant replay in my car, too, as well as on my mp3 and will get me back to power walking again. And I will have to remember not to make a fool of myself by singing along.

  22. dcglam says:

Good morning, folks! And a special good morning and happy birthday to you my dear, Texas!! I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t stop drooling staring at that amazing cover art. Absolutely stunning, just stunning!! It was the first thing I went to this morning when I woke up. In Love

I will have to remember not to make a fool of myself by singing along.

Haha, I do this all the time on the treadmill at the gym, rs, and always hoping that other peeps aren’t looking at me. LOL

Off to work now, but I will return for more flailing later on.
Have a good day, everyone! Sun

    http://www.muumuse.com/2011/12/adam-lambert-better-than-i-know-myself-single-review.html/

In my piece last week for MTV Buzzworthy, I wrote that “My sources tell me that ‘Better Than I Know Myself’ is a piece of flaw-free radio candy, a stunning midtempo track with a powerhouse chorus that’s like a pumped-up ‘Whataya Want From Me,’ and it should cement Adam’s place in the pop A-list.” I’m sticking by this, especially the latter statement. “Better Than I Know Myself” is more radio-ready as anything on his last album, and I would be stunned if it didn’t perform excellently on the charts, and catapult Adam way further into the realm of superstardom than he’s ever been before.

Awesome review! The last paragraph actually made me teary-eyed because I want superstardom for Adam so badly. He truly deserves it.

I want this for Adam too…So so much….

Still loving the snippet and can’t get it out of my head..

  25. cwm says:

Arriving late to the party. It’s been a heckuva week for me.

But Adam continues to make me happy. Honestly, this man brings me so much joy.

I love the single cover, the photo is awesome!

And I love the snippet. His voice is amazing on it, and I’m so thrilled to hear that voice on a new song. I also like the juxtaposition of his voice to the atmospheric background and the heartbeat percussion. The chorus is very hooky and is stuck in my head. And OMG, can you imagine Adam singing this chorus live?? Ahhhhh. I’m really looking forward to hearing the whole song – especially after that amazing review from the guy at MuuMuse.

    http://www.muumuse.com/2011/12/adam-lambert-better-than-i-know-myself-single-review.html/

    Here’s my favorite paragraph:

First off, I should say that the snippet, which was released today, doesn’t really do the song justice. You can hear that the chorus sees Adam reaching into the higher part of his register, with booming, “Halo”-like drums and a skittering backbeat. But part of what makes the song magical is the way it builds from the opening of whining synths and a nicely percussive backing track, then builds instrumentally into the chorus. Dr. Luke‘s signature style as a producer is the juxtaposition of relatively subdued verses and a huge, explosive chorus, and “Better Than I Know Myself” does that magnificently.

    Also:

The most emotionally potent moment is the bridge, where the richer synths yield to a tinkling piano and the lyrics turn unexpectedly vulnerable: “I get kinda dark/Let it go too far/I can be obnoxious at times/But try and see my heart.” It’s a lovely turn, with a candor that’s refreshing to hear in pop music, and it makes the song truly memorable.

Sigh. I can’t wait to hear the whole song!

Those of you who are in the corner feeling pessimistic — wait til you hear the whole thing! Smile

This is totally in keeping with what I was expecting. Those who have heard the whole song have described it as a powerful mid-tempo song, not a funky, dance track. Uptempo, dancey, and funky reflects other songs on the album. I think something like this is a very good choice for a first single, because it is radio-friendly and builds on Adam’s previous radio success. Next single can take further risks.

(That “radio intern” who went on and on at IdolForums about how funky and dancey the song was turned out to be a fake poster. Many things that person said turned out to be wrong.)

  26. loveroftalent says:

    @cwm

I’m with you on everything you saidl.

    Have a great day everyone…

  27. Kradamour says:

A quick post to let peeps know that I am going to step away from the fandom until the 20th when the whole song is out there. The snippet is very disappointing to me, sounds overproduced, the voice is in there somewhere…and I guess I just don’t hear it as radio-friendly, and my radio is always on the Katy Perry/Rihanna/Britney/Gaga/Pink spot on the dial.

BUT I will be delighted to be wrong. And as we know, the radio stations are the ones who make or break a song, and there seems to be a lot of love out there for Adam, so I am hoping they will come through for him and make the song a hit. These guys have heard the whole thing, too.

The description of the song building, etc. also makes me happy. This tiny piece taken out of context can’t demonstrate that.

Too much to do to make myself crazy over this until we hear it all – one son coming home tomorrow, soldier son coming home next week – still need to finish decorating, and then bring the tree in, then it takes almost two days to trim the tree (wish that was an exaggeration but it isn’t)(but the result is breathtaking!).

So I’ll check back on the 20th. Peeps who have my phone number, please someone text me if the song leaks before then!
    Have a great weekend! Heart

P.S. I am so glad that you were all here to share the first listen! eywflyer, THANK YOU again for this wonderful site!

dcglam and nkd, thanks so much for the birthday wishes! And nkd, it was a little early for me to enjoy those margaritas, but I managed – I mean, how many times does a girl turn 29??? (cough-cough, 23, cough-cough Struggle ).

I will have to remember not to make a fool of myself by singing along.

Haha, I do this all the time on the treadmill at the gym, rs, and always hoping that other peeps aren’t looking at me. LOL

Me too, dcglam! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked around, wondering if I sang out loud! Pick U Up is always the “riskiest” to listen to with earbuds at the gym – almost can’t resist throwing my arms in the air and helping Adam belt it out on the chorus of that song, haha.

Next single can take further risks.

cwm, I couldn’t agree with you more. I really, really like the snippet and can’t wait to hear the rest of it, but that doesn’t mean I’m not dying for Adam to take me to Funkytown! Just like with FYE, I’m sure this album with have something for everyone.

Hi everyone! Hope your holiday plans are coming to fruition, and a blessed holiday for everyone. I stand with the flailing group when it comes to the snippet, I love it so far. Both the beautiful high notes, and the timber in the lower register after the chorus, which seems different than almost anything I’ve heard from Adam before. I can’t wait for the song, but guess I must! I am one of thoses that most loves his rock side, but I’ve grown more fond of some of the pop music out there(not a lot, but more than I used to listen to), most of which Adam has led me to. I don’t find the production overpowering-perhaps more than I anticipated, but to me his voice rings through clearly. However, enough over-analysis of 28 seconds of a song-Tuesday, hurry up, already!

Happy birthday, Texas. 29 is a good age to be-I’m looking forward to it! Teehee…( Silly)

  36. nkd says:

I can not wait for the entire song! I am loving it! If those of you that listened to the snippet, and only from Amazon, you should listen to the soundcloud snippet, it is so much clearer.
I can’t get enough of it! So excited for the rest! Another 3 months for the album, can we survive it?!!

  37. cwm says:

This youtube makes it easy to listen to the snippet on repeat. It’s the longer, cleaner version and it repeats 3 times. Smile I’ve had it on constant repeat this morning. Loving it!

THREE MONTHS?????? The saga of human suffering is endless!!

I can’t wait to hear the tinkling piano part of this song. I think the song is a blend of Can’t Let You Go (also Claude Kelly) and maybe some acoustic parts like WWFM.
An Italian blog (yes, I’ve been wading through all the int’l press for two more days) describes it as “intense and romantic,” just from the snippet. Brazilian commenters loved the art and the music, only a very few negatives. One idiot blogger in Mexico thought it was a Ryan Tedder song and didn’t like it; I set him straight and to reserve judgement until he hears it.
French seem to like it also.
I think the album will be eclectic, like FYE, but with different vibes. I wish Cam’s lovely ballad would have made it, but who knows?

  39. TexasWannaHoldEm says:

Bruno Mars collab???!!! I don’t have to time to read the press release right now, but if that’s true, I would be SOOOOOO thrilled! I really appreciated Bruno tweeting Adam back after one of the many supportive tweets Adam sends out complimenting other artists and their music. Plus, although I don’t love ALL of Bruno’s music, I really appreciate his musicality; he’s a very talented guy. The two of them together makes this 29-year old have a hot flash. Cool

I was reading through the comments this afternoon and it just struck me as funny reading comments about the emotion and honesty, etc of the vocal in a 28 second snippet and I could not help thinking back on Kara Diawhatsherface from season 8 dissing on Adam during Hollywood week for not connecting!!!! She did not know WHO she was listening to and absolutely did not understand the gift that was being shared with her at the time. It makes me so happy that I tuned in that week to hear him sing “Believe” and the group number “Some Kinda Wonderful”.
