RE: guitarists today – perhaps Brian stumbled because the question appeared to him to be about the current generation – 30 and 40-somethings – and he didn’t want to mention one or two and leave someone out. He is such a gentleman.

Good thoughts to you sparkle. Sometimes RL sucks but you can enjoy what’s left of summer a little bit more and spend a little more affirmative time with friends – which includes here.
sparkle, the same thing happened to me. There are industries where once you are on your way out…well, you are out. Pack up your thingses and sayonara. I was actually escorted to the door by security and my boxes publicly searched on the way out, even though I left with stellar reviews and letters of recommendation (in my case, I had resigned to get married and move to another state). It was just policy and everyone was very apologetic, but have to say it was humiliating when my co-workers watched and may or may not have known what the circumstances were.
On the plus side, how nice to have a little extra time to catch your breath before beginning your new gig!
smalls, I live in Virginia but my heart is in Maryland, where my family has lived for literally hundreds of years. I am flying the Maryland flag from my flagpole as I write this.
It makes me happy that you were able to go home. I don’t see that in my future, but at least it isn’t too far away.
And gotta say, living in Virginia is pretty entertaining these days. Can’t wait for the paper every morning to see what new stuff came out in the governor’s trial…unbelievably tawdry and better than any reality show.

Couple of interesting things re: fandom.
I was in Stratford, Ontario, this week. Home of the best Shakespeare Festival in North America…….and Justin Bieber. I have come to know one of the motel owners very well over the years. She has hosted a huge number of theatre seminar attendees every August for 35 years. I’ve been going since 1986 but have been noticeably absent for the last 3 years – something to do with Adam Lambert.
My NYC friend had filled her in on the reason for my absence so, when we were alone for a minute, she asked about the QAL concert and said “I really like Adam Lambert, too. He was wonderful on Idol and I have a few of his songs. I think he is a very, very nice guy.”
We weren’t able to talk much before my NYC friend showed up but I found this rather interesting, since Adam’s interviews on Idol were short and sweet; enough to make you think he was a nice guy but not enough to leave a very, very impression 5 years after the fact. Perhaps she has seen a few YouTube interviews and is more than a run-of-the-mill fan?
She asked how old his fans were (perhaps thinking I was an anomaly) and wasn’t totally surprised to find out that he appeals to all-ages because Justin Bieber’s fan base is very broad, too. Apparently a heck of a lot of Beliebers make the pilgrimage to Stratford and they often come with their mothers and granddmothers. She says that you can tell that the mothers and grandmothers are secretly into Justin as much as their teens are. Interesting.
At any rate, it appears that she is very used to sitting at that desk and listening to a lot of fan-girling, so I will take her a copy of Trespassing later this fall and attempt a bit more of a chat, since there won’t be any disapproving NYC friends in the vicinity.
The other interesting thing. On the subway the other day, I overheard a conversation between two 20-somethings. At first I thought they were religious – one of them sounded pretty upset when she said “I’m a believer”. Then she talked about someone dissolving into a puddle of tears when he sang. It slowly evolved that they were talking about Justin Bieber. One of them still loved him and the other wasn’t so sure that he deserved it. It appears that Justin’s behaviour is straining his fandom to it’s limits.
TLKC: I’m stunned. I was sure Justin Bieber’s fans are 99% preteen and teen girls.

TLKC, yes that’s what I think the DJ meant about current guitar players. Current… and I can’t think of one. So much house music out now and manufactured sounds there really aren’t known lead rock or other genre guitar players in the current music scene.
Sparkle, a road trip sounds like fun but I have no days off next week! Used them up in July

Thanks for the Sauli bit, luval. I still remember so clearly when we saw him loping down the center path at Ste Agathe looking adorable and self-conscious. Glad to know that he and Adam are staying in touch in a positive way.

Adam hasn’t worn it to the side, or down on his forehead for some time. A more natural look, and less severe. But, he always looks good, and can pretty much pull off anything off.
Well, that didn’t sound good, but you hopefully know what I meant.
Adam is a chameleon. Turning his head just inches and he looks different. But I think in that pic from last night he had wee pursed lips and was sucking in his cheeks just a teeny bit. With a posed photo you can have time to do this.

I strapped myself to the chair a day or so ago, because I was falling asleep, but didn’t want to miss all the goodies zooming in.
I concur with you about Orianthi, she is very skilled & has more of a throw back sound to her playing.
I also must confess my love for David Gilmore, of ‘Pink Floyd’ as my favorite guitar player. His playing has many layers of skill, and passion, and just transports me.
But he is also in his sixties, and much like Brian May, from a different era of music.
I don’t care which era they are from, ‘Pink Floyd’ & ‘Queen’ are timeless to me.

But every time I wonder about this it doesn’t happen. Just wishful thinking I guess.
I’ve always thought about this…right before Chicago…I mean they had rehearsals, dress rehearsals, etc. etc. But first time in front of a live HUGE audience with Adam has gotta be a bit shocking for the guys. Wondered just what they were thinking when Adam went all out with his vocals, and all around performance.

Wow, Kradamour, what a rich familial heritage you have within the beautiful state of Maryland. My family is scattered all over the country and I’ve long wished we’d all settle closer to each other.
I adore Maryland. Spent quite a bit of time there around the state. Some of my fondest memories were created while at Baltimore Harbor and in Annapolis. I loved to go sailing out on the Chesapeake at night under the stars. It was surreal sitting in the very seats that Washington & Jefferson sat in when I visited the area restaurants. And, true to Maryland’s reputation, I think the crabcakes are amazing.
Whatever happened to take you from roots, I’m sorry that you had to make the change. Hopefully it’s brought some additional enrichment to your life as Virginia is quite beautiful and boasts a wealth of cultural and National heritage. I also think Virginia has the most stunning of falls and springs in the region. Used to travel the B.R. Parkway frequently while growing up.
That said… I do hope you, too, are able to go home, if that’s what you desire. It’s important to be happy where we settle!
