iHeart Red Carpet
Adam-HungerTVAdam+Stewie-AttitudeAdam+Nikki-iHeartRedCarpet

The calm after the end of QAL in February didn’t last long – thank the universe – and the roll-out to TOH appears nicely underway. We had the Sunrise/AU interview on 3/18, followed by the MiniMTV one on 3/20, the Hunger Mag major Q&A (with spectacular pics by Rankin) on 3/24, Attitude Mag’s great article (sold-out, of course), ending up with the iHeart Red Carpet appearance. But the big news, of course, was the Ghost Town snippet and the interest it engendered. April looks to be even more interesting, with the single release on the 21st – good times ahead.

Enjoy the chat!

Adam Lambert will release his new single “Ghost Town”, which was co-produced by Max Martin, this Tuesday, April 21st at 12 midnight ET. [just after 11:59 PM Monday]

Visit adamofficial.com this Tuesday for the world premiere of “Ghost Town” and pre-order information for his upcoming album The Original High.

A Guardian article how BBC1 radio picks their playlist. I’m just reading it. Sigh. The key issue is do they think 14-29 year olds would be interested in that music… and online activity matters a lot.

    http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/may/25/radio-1-playlist-secrets-uncovered-battle-of-brands

Eta: Just noticed it’s from last spring but probably still accurate.

  2. TLKC says:

Interesting article on downloads versus streaming. Approximately 1/3 of music consumption is through downloads. The rest is streaming. Also, iTunes is still the market leader but their share slipped to 52% market share in 2014.

    http://www.musicwatchinc.com/blog/one-third-of-us-consumers-still-buy-music-downloads-even-as-streaming-gains-momentum/

  3. TLKC says:

Very interesting article, LadyNorth. This applies to Adam, I think:

Increasingly you hear songs that might connect but actually getting an artist to connect as a brand is still amazingly tough. Radio can break a song, but the artist has to do their part. For example, when we started putting Mumford and Sons’ first two singles on our A-list, the audience really hadn’t figured it, they thought, ‘What is this strange music with banjos?’ But the band was out there playing live, introducing people to their sound and their brand. And then by the third single the audience suddenly got it. Some bands have it, some don’t, and to be able to tell that from a really early stage is very difficult. You have to trust your gut. That’s the risk.”

This is probably where Adam is in the UK and Europe.

  4. luval says:

I think Miss Chaos was correct on this too!

I hope Ghost Town is something to sing along with, I think thats what helps sell songs, and play on the radio, a sing along song that people want to hear as they are driving.

  5. TLKC says:

I’ll have to “lah-lah-lah-lah, lah-lah-lah-lah” but I am game. Alternatively, half of us can sing and the other half can whistle.

  6. TLKC says:

Given that an awful lot of people listen to radio in the cars, it is very possibly that the rush hour crowd will find themselves whistling on their way home. Could be infectious.

  8. glambotgram says:

All these rules Geez, why can’t we just go to the store(or online) and buy the song. It is getting complicated, confusing and annoying thinking we will do the wrong thing. There are a lot of conflicting messages too. Question

  9. sparkle says:

For the record, I am a pretty good whistler. I can’t figure out how Ron can whistle and hum at the same time – I’ve tried and can’t figure it out. Were you joking, Ron?

  10. skaschep says:

    TLKC

I’ll have to “lah-lah-lah-lah, lah-lah-lah-lah” but I am game. Alternatively, half of us can sing and the other half can whistle.

I can both sing and whistle (the last even while breathing in), but not both at the same time of course. In which group do I fall then? Razz

Edit: just like sparkle I can’t figure out how to hum and whistle at the same time though. My lips are to busy with the whistling to produce any other sound.

Dancing will take some time still with my knee still recovering from the surgery, but I do hope I can start doing that a bit when his album comes out.

As for buying or streaming. I’ll probably wait until it’s released. Don’t even know when it will be available in the Netherlands to buy or download. Don’t use itunes either very much (only for my ipod shuffle which was a gift). Haven’t bought music in a long long time… ( Blush sorry)

  12. LadyNorth says:

glambot, I agree that this is more than confusing! It was not like this during Trespassing. On the other hand I wasn’t around yet buying the singles… I bought different versions of CDs from different places.

TLKC, the article you posted didn’t even mention physical CDs. Thinking I still like to buy them. Dinosaur that’s me…

Btw, does anyone know if it is possible to buy from iTunes if I don’t have apple device?

You can download iTunes on your computer. It doesnt have to be apple. Then you can search for a song, or hopefully its on the front page of Top Ten, click on and and buy it. I have a .78 cent balance. lol.

  18. LadyNorth says:

Thanks a lot Miss Chaos Smile Well but then I can’t listen to them on tablet or phone Big Frown How about Amazon, do I need an apps for that too? For all my devices? I am so ashamed to admit I have never bought a digital song! Or any of my friends either, I think. Probably those people who do, have iPhone, iPod etc. and use iTunes. I buy CDs and make them MP3s myself… Or listen from Spotify.

No Amazon in Finland, so I have to buy from US I think. But I am very grateful if someone knows about that apps thing. I guess scaschep and cait are in the same boat as me?

  19. Miss Chaos says:

I dont know why you cant download iTunes on your tablet or phone. Give it a try, Google search find iTunes, see if you can download it.

  28. glambotgram says:

Lady North I buy all my digital things from Amazon. Once you buy the song, or album you should be able to put it in your music folder on any device you have. I can do that with my Amazon music purchases. It seems like itunes should work the same way. Once you purchase it should belong to you. It doesn’t make sense that you could only listen through itunes. So you should not have to put itunes on all devices.

I don’t have an itunes account so I may be wrong about it. But if they require an itunes account to listen to the music you buy from them then I would certainly buy elsewhere.

  29. riskylady says:

Here’s my plan: Buy GT and TOH on iTunes as soon as available (no pre-order on iTunes, in order for the album to chart ON ITUNES CHART on release date as well as on BB.) Many people look to iTunes chart as indicator, in addition to BB.
Then, pre-order on AdamOfficial, Amazon, etc. as those pre-orders will count towards BB on release date.
Then, stream like crazy, also counts on BB.
    Gah.

LadyNorth, I think you can have your iTunes account on 3 devices. I have mine on Dell laptop, my iPad and hubby’s iPad with an email that we share. I have a separate one on iTouch with a different email, and hubby has a separate one too on his iPad with a different email.
    The email is the key.
There is Amazon UK too, where I have a separate acct from my US Amazon. I have ordered from them too, like the UK CD of FYE and Trespassing. You could probably open one there if you wanted.
Back to moving…..so NOT FUN!! Frown

  30. glambotgram says:

  32. skaschep says:

LadyNorth We do have Amazon in the Netherlands, but it only has books and Kindle e-books.

I just looked at what has influence at our Dutch big chart The Top 40. Downloads don’t even count for that one. Only a physical buy at ONE store (Mediamarkt), streaming (Spotify, Deezer and Juke?) and air play counts for this chart. So not much to help with that. Don’t know if they even sell singles anymore at that store.

We do have an I-tunes top 30 on another station and there are other charts that do count downloads as well, but it confuses me a lot to be honest.

They all count streams from Spotify it seems, so I’ll do that at least. The other things I’ll have to have a look at what to do with that.

  33. ultimathule says:

Your plan, riskylady, at 12:33 is the one I plan to use – after all the reading, seems to be the general consensus –

Thanks glambot and riskylady for your advice! I think I have to make an account and try by buying some song… But Amazon UK doesn’t even have all Adam stuff as MP3s, US one had more. I would like to order something else too. I don’t even have Glee songs other than MP3s somwone has made… Probably for sale only on iTunes.

I pre-ordered TP from Adam official (fan version), bought a copy in store in Finland the first week and later bought UK version in London.

glambot, every time someone streams a song in spotify the artist gets a small fee. I think every listen counts to charts but not one on one. Remember when we had those listening loops of NCOE music video?

I think I go soon iNuts Grin

riskylady good luck with moving! Sounds like what my mom went through 1,5 years ago. Looking forward to hear some details Smile

LadyNorth We have Amazon in Germany and can download songs from it. They even have something really useful…if you buy a album you get the download as well so you can start listening right away without having to wait for the physical album. I like it. Only downside…you need a special app to listen to it.

Its finally friday. One week vacation ahead for me. Staying at home, do a bit gardening, a bit housework and waiting for Tuesday Grin

  41. Calgary says:

    Colour me TOTALLY confused!

  42. TLKC says:

You are not alone LadyNorth. I will pre-order a hard copy of the cd from Amazon and buy another from HMV on the day of its release (which I will probably give to my sister, who is a fan.)

I am hoping for a special pre-sell boxed set from WB via Adam’s website, similar to the $49.99 Trespassing package which included a cd, a vinyl disc and several amazing photos. If they make it I will buy it.

As for iTunes, I will download Ghost Town a.s.a.p. after midnight on Monday and will continue to buy Adam’s singles on iTunes as they are officially released. I will complete the cd only after the label stops issuing singles.

iTunes didn’t get a cd pre-sell out of me last time and they won’t now.

Above and beyond that, I will stream.

  43. TLKC says:

Don’t worry Calgary. I have been in retail marketing for over 30 years and iTunes charts simply don’t matter to the people who matter. Radio and the labels will get the pre-sell figures from iTunes, regardless of whether they are reported to the customers in real time or at the end of the pre-sell cycle. The label and radio will use the information to make strategic decisions about Adam’s appearances/promotion and radio play.

Billboard is going to combine the pre-sell and first week sales into one figure and that is what the industry looks at.

On the bright side, most of us used iTunes to purchase the singles last time and only completed the cd when the label stopped issuing them, so our delay purchase on iTunes won’t matter in the least.

  44. TLKC says:

All these rules Geez, why can’t we just go to the store(or online) and buy the song. It is getting complicated, confusing and annoying thinking we will do the wrong thing. There are a lot of conflicting messages too. Question

Yes, Glambotgram, it is. As a former buyer I find it even more annoying; a pure case of “a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.”

Bottomline, pre-sells come from core fans and the label is very curious to know how many core fans are still out there after 3 years without a cd release. They will also try to extrapolate the casuals and the Glee/Queen fan potential from the early sales and put a picture together. The more we try to manipulate the figures, the harder we make it for them to call.

If you showed up last time as a pre-sell, then show up this time. If you didn’t then don’t.

Just be yourself. Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh

  45. TLKC says:

Thanks for the shazam advice glambotgram. It makes sense if you think about it but I didn’t.

  46. TLKC says:

Best wishes for a smooth and safe move, riskylady, and much good luck in your new home.

I have itunes on my non apple laptop…..which really needs sorting out as it has 25,000 songs on it, most of which I will never listen too. We inherited someone elses music, plus our own….I have never actually ordered from itunes (only got it here a year or so ago)…never seems to work when I try. My husband has, need to get him to talk me through it, see what I’m doing wrong.
